Now when the Big Boy & FEF-3 are completely restored and the Challenger & the TTT-63 are on its way of beign fully restored to operating condition, then it is only one more Steam loco left to be restored: UP 9000. I really hope they'll consider doing that. I bet both UP and the fans would love to see that! Imagine to place them side by side when all are restored or dubble-head them; in this case 5-head them, biggest to smallest..
9000 will not be restored. The 4-12-2 non-articulated frame is too long for the curved tracks of today. In addition, it’s a three-cylinder engine, which was already a maintenance nightmare back in the day and will be a maintenance nightmare if it was to run again. And I’m almost certain that the RailGiants would prefer to hold onto 9000.
