I haven't been able to stop thinking about this thing! Out of stock everywhere but I got the demo from Perfect Circuit. Had to have this, just bananas!!
So I've had the Oneiroi for about week now, and couple things I have learned, first don't overdrive the inputs as it will sound bad on most things you do, have to pay attention to the input level LED and try and keep it in the green. Second is to make very small subtle changes to the controls for the best results. Initially I was too aggressive with the controls and also did not have good results. Once I calmed down things started to sound really good !
This is an awesome demo video, Ben. You really put a lot of effort, time and skills in it. The result is brilliant! And Oneiroi is brilliant anyway. Before your video I wasn't aware how flexible it actually is. Top!
I got one of the few available last night for the primary purpose of running electric violin through on my euro-violin rack. It has some overlap with the looper buffers on my Chase Bliss Mood2, but in Eurorack with more features and control- thanks so much for the very careful breakdown!
That sounds like a nice pairing. Do you plan on playing the violin just into the FX and looper? Or you work against the oscillator droning? Sequences? Thanks!
@@DivKid I usually treat the violin as flexible oscillator- and sometimes find ways to mutilate the sound sometimes beyond any recognizable form. At this years Electric Strings Summit in Lousiville, I performed an Industrial Techno Piece, where my self-imposed challenge was "live electric violin can be the only sound source".. I used frequency and pitch shifting galore, more buffer effects delays and loops than I can count, and they were in turn enveloped or filtered. I am very excited about seeing how the pitch shifting, reverse playback, resonator and noise added filters work with violin in various forms.
@@DivKid Thanks! A little bit of everything at first till I lock in how it is working best for live performance and lock in a few presets on my rack. I will be pairing it with the Noise Lab tailgater to Pitch CV track violin pitch. Pitch sources for the oscillators with come from that the violin CV chain, any of my sequencers, or a foot keyboard- I have used the Keith McMillen 12 Step for chromatic drone control in the past with great success. Pretty much every feature on the Oneiroi is right up my alley :) I just wish it had a few more audio outputs along the chain :D.
Holy shite! I've not started investing in modular... YET. But this seems like a no-brainer phenomenal addition to nearly any kit. This + nearly any sequencer/controller is nuts! Cheers and best from NYC. 🙂
What amazes me is that despite the shift functions and how much is packed behind this panel, is that it still seems performance friendly! Really smart idea utilizing the buffer for wavetables, albeit the morphing doesn’t seem as smooth I like. Can’t wait to get this in the mail next week!
wavetable offsets don't morph at all, it steps through the 32 waves it makes. The wavetable is definitely a basic implementation compared to say a wavetable oscillator but it is a nice way to get different harmonics and tones to work with against the sine/loops.
That triggerable modulation bus would be a nice module. Multiple outputs that can have different amounts of modulation and CV inputs over the speed and wave form. DIY preferably.
Maybe try to replicate some of what it does with what you have, not that there's much directly related to it, but fun to try and take ideas into other things.
As someone who is currently on vacation in Greece, I'm pretty sure it should be read as "Oniry" (as in "oneiric", meaning "something related to dreams")
Enjoy the vacation in Greece, I can't personally image that word coming up while on holiday in Greece but that's fun. The meanings are slightly varied when you look them up, as for pronunciation ... well this is a Spanish companies product, based on Greek mythology said by an English person so I'm happy I was fairly close. Thanks! :)
Yeah in a case as a contained instrument would be great. But then I start thinking, oh with a headphone out, and 1/4" jack outs, oh and MIDI so it integrates without modular for people ... not sure where that ends.
Hard sync. Great demo. I wasn’t that interested in this module when it was first announced, but the demos coming out have really changed my opinion of it. Might have to find some room in my rack.
Interesting module. Personally I’m not too fond of the shift functions. I’d easily loose track of what settings I have dialed in. Did I leave the filter at LP or HP, at what position is it at in the effects chain? How far did I turn unison? Oh shit, I forgot to press shift before trying to set the oscillator an octave lower. Yes, I understand not having the shift function would add an enormous amount of knobs and switches, but then again, welcome to modular synths. 😉
Yeah I get that, something like a filter in LP or HP things should be fairly obvious like that when you're using it and most of it I'd just set it how I want it and then play around within those behaviours. Definitely get it though and the tuning is a good example, in a performance setting you'd have to just style that out, maybe keep turning lower to dive bomb it down and back up then move into the thing you wanted. "welcome to modular synths" hahaha that sums it all up nicely! :)
Hey very interestingly made video a lot of interesting features you showed on it. and could you make another video only with the capabilities of this device. without side devices. I would like to know if this device has its own clock. can it be done on this device without using another sequencer from 45.39? I am interested in the granularity and is it possible to reduce the granularity even more? greetings bartek
Hello, I can't make another video. As it's a module, it was used in a modular environment to demonstrate what it does. There's no internal clock per say, however the delay times work manually, the looper works by itself without external sync to reset to the start point etc. So with just Oneiroi you could be making, capturing and manipulating sounds without any other modules.
@@DivKid butz it is an amazing device. i don't have moduls yet. i suspect it may be my first and not the last. When you connected the guitar, the range of possibilities for this device opened up for me. i wanted to have it. you made a good advertisement for this instrument.
well said, a bit of TINRS Tuesday, Winter Modular Eloquencer, possible other bits. If there's a specific part in the video I can have a look/listen and point things out, but those two were the main things.
@DivKid well right now I have a brains, quadrantid swarm, shapeshifter, vortex, a manis and a rings clone. At 15:10 when I try to record with Post selected the record button does not light up, if using Echo or Ambience in Post recording it's just a burst of noise, recording in Pre works fine. 😵💫
I saw some talk on the Mod Wiggler forum about it which goes into licensing issues (I think) between the OWL platform that this is based on and VCV. Would be cool to see as it condenses what would otherwise be a lot of patching!
@@DivKid absolutely, I could patch most of that up fairly easily but really convenient to have it all in one module ready to go! Also the ambience with the reverse feature is fairly unique, can't think of another VCV module that does that. The sections with Rings and the guitar looping sounded great 👍
they are not, they're too slow in response for percussive decay envelope type stuff with the filter. Internal modulation will go faster though so you might get what you want out of the modulation on board.

Hope that adds some clarity.
