The CAMERA MAN was focusing the worse places of DAR especially on the CONSTRUCTION and ANCIENT building. Great places like Moroco, Upanga, Sea view were not shown. While the camera focused the best of Nairobi. The camera was biased. He should have included KIBERA and RIVER road to make good comparison

Having lived in both cities, I can say they each have a different vibe. Nairobi is more modern with better social amenities (parks, forests etc) it has a mild climate because of the altitude and a more international flavor. Dar is more tropical coastal weather and a lot more expansive and spread out. Here the ancient and modern city sit comfortably side by side. There is a more authentic feel to the people and the food in Dar. That said I love both cities but so differently.

Dar is an old city.There is antique laws that protect old buildings from demolition.Most of the antique buildings are found in the CBD.These are purposely preserved unlike Nairobi.There are places in Dar es salaam that have more skyscrapers with better architecture than Nairobi.

You just visited one ward of Dar es Salaam called kivukoni which has the old cbd and old dar...Dont forget Dar es Salaam is the largest city in Eastern Africa...Dar es Salaam has more than 5 districts....Now days the modern part of Dar es Salaaam is Makumubusho, victoria, the whole Masaki and mlimani area...
Dar es Salaam has a larger population than Nairobi, although this is not reflected in its GDP or infrastructure compared to Nairobi. It's important to note that population size alone doesn't necessarily determine superiority, as exemplified by the comparison between Mumbai and London. 😅

@@rang3688 Out of the expressway...There is no big difference between Dar and Nairobi interms of infrastructure if it is thika highway..Dar es Salaam has kimara highway .Dar has more 100km of BRT system that works well...The BRT system means 6 to 8 lanes road with proper sidewalks..Nairobi has no a well developed mass transit so public transport is a mess in Nairobi.....Dar has many modern public bus stations and both cities have just 11 skyscrappers with more than 100m...The GDP of Nairobi is bigger because kenyan economy is concetrated around Nairobi the commercial and capital city of kenya...Tanzania is different...Economy is distributed all over the country from lake zone where there are minerals, north and zanzibar where there tourism is booming, and southern highlands where agriculture is doing good

Well, having watched the two cities, I'd like to be kind enough and pardon the ignorance of those who think that Dar is even comparable to Nairobi. There is a world of difference between the two and the contrast is unmistakable. There is more to a city than a BRT system and a few stone age buildings. Nairobi remains without a peer in the region and that's a fact that cannot be changed, or wished away, just because someone is looking for ego supplement disguised as patriotism.

Even in more developed cities in Asia which are way more developed than any cities in Africa have tuktuks because it's part of their way of life like cities of Bangkok, Metro Manila, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur. Hard to say, it requires a lot of Foreign Direct Investment as well. Every major capital in the world has FDI. London is the #1 destination for FDI. E.g. if a foreign hotel/resort chain wants to invest, it will obviously improve the scenery and attract visitors that might not have come to a place with subpar services. Kenya is slowly moving away from being just a Safari destination and is attracting visitors for other reasons. If Tanzania was located anywhere else in Africa, they would have higher FDI, but most multinationals would rather invest in Kenya due to its geographical location, infrastructure, and temperate climate that resembles Europe.
@@NyakachKabodhothat’s true.. or at least that was true in the history… now when the climate doesn’t play such a huge role as most FDI are not in agriculture and offices can simply have A/C, the very important part of the story is corruption, where kenya seems to be going backwards 😱… the visa process was a hell.. when i was at the immigration… omg… i have never seen so many frustrated foreigners at one place… they were just everywhere waiting for bribes… i think the country that makes this well will prosper the most in the long term 😉

Was this by the Tanzanian border? I've never had to pay a bribe. I travel with an EU passport. What I did find, however, is that immigration can be very rude and uncooperative if you "mess up." E.g. when I was entering the country, they stamped my passport for one month even though my itinerary was for 6 weeks. I didn't notice it until I left the country. It's one of the tricks they pull to get you to pay more. On their website it's stated that the VISA is valid up to 3 months so I automatically assumed they'd at least stamp the period of my duration. The mess up was on their side not mine but they refused to budge and accused me of lying when I told them I'd shown them my itinerary. My mistake was trusting them. Ugandan immigration was no better, very rude. When I entered, the immigration lady didn't want to accept my East African VISA since she deemed it a waste if I wasn't also planning on visiting Rwanda (they were obviously pissed off that all the money had gone to Kenya). When she asked for a proof of stay (i.e a hotel booking) I told her I was visiting a friend which only pissed her off more. I'd already gone through this process when I entered Kenya so I assumed it would be smooth sailing from there on out. Then, when she finally let me through, a Mr. Matovu straight up asked for money. When I told him no he said, "this is Uganda." I still stood my ground so he finally let me through. On my way back, I realised I'd left my yellow fever vaccine with my friend, but when I tried explaining it to them, they refused to let me back in. It didn't make sense to me because Kenya doesn't have any yellow fever requirements. My experience with African immigration overall hasn't been positive, I honestly doubt Tanzania is any different.

East Africans are well known ass kissers when it comes to mzungus (I hear Zanzibarians are the worst), so my question to you is:
1) Where did this occur?
2) Were the foreigners Eurasian or African?
I haven't been to Kenya since they implemented "free entry" (with a 30 admin fee of course), but since they removed VISA on arrival a few years ago, I assume you must have been travelling with a Tanzanian passport. During all my trips to Kenya I've never actually seen them take bribes out in the open because most travellers already have their papers sorted.
