Just a tip for you, not sure if you know or not, .... You can top coat with a 2K Poly and tint it in a voilet, this will create a very shiny chrome look to your parts and will be much more durable than your 1K top coat ... When using the 2K Poly with the violet the silvering / chrome look stays the same, will not dull or turn any other colour.
Yes I know about the 2K and the tinted clear. When you're doing small items and very few of them I find it not worth the trouble to use the 2K. And I find that the UV resin is just as hard and durable. As far as using the violet tint...since I paint over the silver finish I don't really need to guard against yellowing much. I have been experimenting with silver plating lures for 8 years now and I have had to scale everything down to make it work and be cost effective. Thank you so much for watching and for your input.
Have you ever heard of a DC Sputtering Magnetron? Way outside the spectrum of a home craftsmen but a fascinating way of getting metallic finishes on anything, not sure on the exact science but it involves using plasma and a vacuum to make the donor metal evaporate and deposit on everything else in the vacuum chamber.
I’d love to know some more about this process. I paint lures myself, and some don’t have chrome as an option. I’ve tried just about every chrome paint with an airbrush available but this seems to be the better route. Way more consistency in these!! If I were to send you a bunch of prepped baits, white and cleared would you be interested in doing this to them? Obviously there would be compensation… let me know! Thanks!
I was wondering if I could get some information. What do you use and where do you get it and how much does it cost for the a and b. And whatever other chemicals you use to do the silver plating.
The instruction by Angel Gilding says you need to apply wetting agent and then apply sensitizer on top of that. Is your dipping solution a mixture of wetting agent and sensitizer? Thanks.
I suppose since you are dipping the entire piece in the solution, the wetting agent isn't necessary. Thank you for answering my question. @@EngineeredAngler
Thanks for the videos that process is beautiful its beyond me, what do you do with the caustic materials after you finish the process is the EPA man knocking on your door? , chrome bumper paint from Pep Boys is my go-to

Beautiful results with that silver finish! Congrats on getting the process to that point. Brotha what clear plastic did you make your shield around your spray area with? I just bought them stuff for silver.plating and bought the stuff to build the sprsy gun from ur other video... thank u for all the knowledge
@@EngineeredAngler I just watched it! Great job, thanks! Do you think having the small spray tubes at a 90° angle to the jet of air is better than say like 80° pointing outwards towards the spray target?
what is the thickness of the coating? I wonder how it will work on small wobblers with a small scale, whether chrome does not cover the structure of the scale.
The thickness of the coating is super thin something like 50 microns. It won't cover any detail like scale but it's hard to get a real shiny finish unless you've already put a clear coat on it
Hey great video! I've been painting my own lures for some time now and have tried multiple different ways to get a chrome base layer without great success I'll for sure be buying this product. Quick question. Does this process only work on the plastic lures or does it not matter what material if its clear cloated first? I have a ton of balsa wood lures id like to chrome.
As long as you clear coat the surface first, this will work on any material. You cant use it on conductive surfaces, so clear coat your metals too. Thanks for watching.
Have you found a clear coat that hasn't made lures foggy looking or dull? That what always kills my chrome lures. Is there a clear coat that works great with this chrome process? Also is the clear coat strong enough to hold up to fish teeth?
If your blanks are perfectly smooth then you might not need to put a clear coat on. But the best mirror finish will come from a perfectly glassy surface. If your blank has texture like scales then putting a clear coat might not be worth the trouble
I try to use the lowest pressure the paint will allow. It depends on your paint and the size of the gun nozzle but somewhere between 15 and 30 psi. Mine is typically set at 20 psi.
Maybe I am missing something here but it looks like you did about a dozen lures and stated it took about 3 to 4 ounces of each chemical. Through the link you supplied that would have cost about $109 or am I looking at the wrong chemicals? At nearly $10 a lure that seems pretty high to me.
Here's what you're forgetting; the chemicals are mixed a hundred to one. So when I'm saying how much I'm using that's the diluted solution. When everything is going really well it's about 75 cents per lure. But if you're screwing a bunch of them up then it can get a little bit more costly. Thanks for watching. And for the question.
So to put it in numbers: Most kits give you enough concentrated chemical to make 1 L of each part. I use about 33 milliliters to coat about 5 lures. So something around 150 lures / kit is reasonable. But if you are doing it for the first time, expect a much lower yield until you really dial it in.
@@EngineeredAngler How exactly do you tint the clear coat to make it look gold? I have been through a few of your videos and tried to search online, but haven't been able to get a clear answer yet.

The instruction by Angel Gilding says you need to apply wetting agent and then apply sensitizer on top of that. Is your dipping solution a mixture of wetting agent and sensitizer? Thanks.
No..just sensitizer. The wetting agent is another way of assuring a good coating. I use the flaming method since my pieces are small.

The only problematic chemical is the sensitiser and there's a neutralizer you mix with it so you can dispose of it.
damn! doesn't get better than that. what a shine.

This system will work on any smooth nonmetallic surface...the smoother, the shinier the finish.
And also sorry for the multiple questions. What clesr coat did you use prior to spraying the silver solution on it?
RIGHT? Use a two part epoxy called crystal clear.
