  • In this episode we are taking you around the corner here in Australia, to show you the Australian Version of a chateau!
    The story and influence of the original owners of this place is impressive.
    We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

    Merci for the wonderful tour of the Australien National Trust Barwon Manor. The bluestone basalt stone is new to me but what a glorious building material. It must be highly durable to contend with the vagaries of the Australian climate. An arresting building, both in design and composition, it seems to rely on elements of the early Industrial Era of colonisation. The wrought iron is a miracle of design; and surprisingly yet particularly reminiscent of the Paris Exhibitions of 1855, 1889 and 1900. As an architect, you have sent me down a rabbit hole ( oui, pun intended) of investigation into Australien Colonial architecture and there are some amazing discoveries to be made. I have a new found love of Bluestone! Australia truly is a land of wonders; I am surprised you would ever wish to leave! Greetings from a secret château in Normandie.

    Hi Denise and Brett, thank you for showing us the historic Barwon Manor, it's a stunning home and the history is very interesting. I must admit, bringing in beautiful creatures as Rabbits just to kill for sport, was not a nice thing. Game hunting for sport was the passion of wealthy, so it's no wonder, but is part of the history. Thanks again. Love from N.Y.

    • @Chateau_de_Londigny
      @Chateau_de_Londigny  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Joni, agree, definitely not a nice thing to do. But a part of the history as you say. 🥹 The home itself with all its details and the bluestone is quite impressive. Glad you liked the tour. 😘☺️

    Very nice Cheatue you showed us there absolutely stunning love all the wood and staircase as well. Hey Denise I wanted to let you know my family is German as well. Although none of the family speaks German here in the US anymore. The language died with my great-grandparents, however, I still have my grandmother's German bible.
    These were our German names one was Romke, Kleinschmidt and my mom married German, Reister was my maiden name. What was your maiden name in German? Can't wait for more videos. Hope y got a chance to watch those videos I sent you. I hope they help! Have a beautiful week at your farm.

      Hello Michelle, that is really interesting your family story! And sound so typical German , love it! ☺️
      A pity that you can’t speak it anymore but guess that’s just what happens after generations. Here in Australia are many people with german background but can’t speak german anymore. :) But names lasting longer! 🤍🤍🤍

    Barwon Park is lovely. What a shame its a National Trust property (although good for us) and not still a lovely family home. We don't have a lot of these reminders of our colonial past left, so its good that some of them are still around and being well looked after.

    • @Chateau_de_Londigny
      @Chateau_de_Londigny  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Angela, yes the National Trust is taking good care of it. It would have been nice as a family home but we are also glad that we are able to go and visit it when we have guests to show them some historical buildings :). ☺️🤗
