I have been in love with this guy's playing half my life. Virtuoso at his craft. I had to learn bass once I heard what can be done. Still play to this day- 25 years.

Since plays it differently every time, I'd say the lesson is play with feeling! So good.

Every time I listen to "the lesson" I get goosebumps. It's not just a display of incredible skill and talent but it's a beautiful melody. Just so well put together and played by a master of his craft

if you are a bass player, i beg you to learn the main parts of this song. I have yet to unlock patterns and chords that felt so impossible at first, and soon developed to feel so amazing to play. the flow of these chord changes high up on the fretboard is like surfing a beautiful wave. do yourself a favor and pull up the tabs
edit: update i can play the main riff plus the second descending chords and it's so dope. my pinky hurts tho

I watched the vid and was very impressed but it seemed out of reach for me as a beginner on bass, but 15 years in on guitar. I wouldn't have looked up the tabs without seeing how adamant you were with your suggestion so I did, and I've made some really fun variations of the first progression part already.
Thank you very much for the suggestion on the tabs!

finally reached a point myself where I have began taking up learning this song and it's intense, even the simple parts utilize so much economy of motion

It's a great song to practice to, even if you can only get certain parts down. It really is a lesson in multiple areas I've found. Good for learning how to strum, getting comfortable with playing chords with more difficult fingering positioning, good for expanding your style in the area of minor chords and learning some of it's patterns, good for learning harmonics. Such an incredible piece on top of all of that

This it the type of song that the more you think you mastered it, the more you will realize how far you really are from mastering it

The funny part is that he says to embrace the mistakes and is really open about making mistakes while playing especially live. Dude is humble and real.

And it’s also up to the composer to play it at the speed he wants. He could play it at 300 bpm and he would still make it sound great
