When I started playing drums I focused so much on technique and being flawless that I forgot about the art of expressing myself through the instrument. These guys got the art and the passion. Respect 1000%.
Saw the Keys live in 2008, "Attack and Release" NYC, terminal 5, best concert I've ever been to. They took me someplace else that night a place I haven't found again. And they introduced me to the "Heartless Bastards" who opened for them that night, they were in rare form that evening as well. Never forget.
I agree, they've put on some of the best shows I've ever seen. I've followed them since 2002ish, and got on board with Heartless Bastards in '06 when they came to Detroit and opened for The Soledad Brothers' last show, it was awesome. Heartless has only been here 2 other times subsequent to that initial show but I made sure I was at both of them (one time we we were only 2 of a couple handfuls, at best, of people in attendance...they brought us beers from backstage when they came out after a break). I've saw the Black Keys many times between 2002-2008 (and never paid more than $15-$20 except one time - the last time), mostly at smaller venues, which I prefer anyway. Like you, I saw them in 2008 on the Attack & Release tour, but Heartless didn't open for them, I can't recall who did. In either case, it was a large venue show and I'm short so I got mezzanine seats in hopes that I'd be able to actually see the show, but it didn't matter, the people in front of us wouldn't sit down. Good thing I had seen them many times prior. That was the last time I saw them. I got my fill of them, got to be be up close & personal and even chat with them a few times, all w/out paying out the ass for tickets lol.
Awww, you got to see the Hearless Bastards too??! Those guys give me the chills every time I hear them. Only For You, The Mountain... CHILLS I TELL YOU! :)
I didn't know about this band, until just resintly when I discovered we had there recording live at Outside Lands, I have entirely new respect for them.
The Black Keys is my answer when asked my favourite band followed by Led Zeppelin as a either a tie or recently deposed #1 current #2.. These guys have gotten me picking up the gat again at a personal and conveniently helpful time, all thanks to learning little black submarines. huge inspiration i wish they new how thankful i am. Anyways Syncopation.. regarding drumming yeah agreed, Charlie Watts (R.i.P.) for example wasn't technically brilliant but his innate understanding of timing and rhythm was so good the band played to his slightly early entries on the beat and that gave them that stones sound. Like Sabbaths swing sound... great drummers really are the difference between a sounds potential.

They got the skill to display that passion as well. So keep going with your technique. The rest comes later
Yet another brilliant concert by these guys that I wish I'd been at ❤
Oh, c'est un tel plaisir, c'est un bonheur. Merci

Keys and Teskeys have restored my faith in music. Normies say there's nothing going on… untrue. Check out Delta Kream up there with the greats.
What a concert, hope Black Keys come to Brazil soon.
Yeees!
The black keys give me a nastalgic vibe. They definitely have their own unique sound.
Dan did not mess up lyrics in Bullet in the Brain.
