More proof of a traditionally trained artist who found his voice and watch his transition to Abstraction. These need to be seen in person to appreciate his paint and color handling. Klimt breaks so many traditionally acceptable rules of scale, perspective, space, flatness of form, composition and color combination. AND makes his paintings work so beautifully. It is a lesson to painters that painting rules can be broken and wonderful work can still be the result.
I am glad you pointed out Klimt’s journey into abstraction. Because of his classical training of anatomical drawings and paintings, the proportions are always correct and pleasing to the eye. One can always tell if an artist learned his craft and built upon it.
Klimt is absolutely mesmerizing. What a treasure, his heritage. If there’s a chance to see his paintings in person at the Belvedere palace in Vienna - well it’s a blessing:)
Thanks to the President's Circle for their generous donations. The private gallery really succeeds in showing the depth of Austrian and German Expressionism in the beginning of the 20 Century! What a wonderful collection! Do you need an intern?
Of all the art museums I visited in NYC, this one was the most worthwhile. Also, they have an incredible book shop. I bought 3 or 4 art books, but wanted more...more... Exquisite, this museum.
You should also watch the full-length film "Portrait in Gold" starring Helen Mirren which was released in 2015. It portrays the great legal battle waged against the Austrian government to bring Klimt's "Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I" which you see in this video at 6:46, from control of the Austrian government to what eventually become part of the permanent collection of the Neue Gallerie in New York City. Called by many the Austrian "Mona Lisa," it was owned by a wealthy Viennese Jewish family who had commissioned Klimt to paint family member Bloch-Bauer, and was stolen from them by the Nazis during the Holocaust after Nazi Germany absorbed Austria into the Third Reich, for a great many Austrians more than willingly, with most of the family murdered in a Nazi death camp. After the Third Reich fell, the painting came into the hands of the new Austrian government who put it in Austria's national gallery. When it was claimed as looted Jewish property by a survivor of the family from whom the Nazis stole it -- Maria Altmann -- a niece of the original owners who had survived the war and was living in Los Angeles, Austria refused claiming it was now permanent Austrian national property to which they had the right to keep it in Austrian government hands. The very bitter legal battle in which billionaire cosmetics magnate and philanthopist -- Ron Lauder (seen at 7:39)-- helped finance the plaintiff Marie Altmann's legal counsel, lasted almost ten years. The Austrian government finally lost in court and was forced to relinquish control of the painting, and Maria Altmann finally gained possession of the painting back into her family. But rather than hold on to it for her branch of the family's own private enjoyment, she bequeathed it to the new Neue Gallerie which was being established with Ron Lauder's backing, as well. And that is how the painting came into the museum's permanent collection for the whole world to enjoy. It's a very powerful movie.
I live in rural Vermont. I have traveled to Wien/Vienna and set flowers on his grave. I am also an Artist and was married in Wien. If there was a contest to win a trip to see this exhibition, not only would I enter it, I'd cheat to win the trip! Best wishes from Vermont ❄️🍁❄️
Thanks for this awesome video. I love the work of Klimt. He is truly one of the greats. I was so curious to hear comment on his landscape paintings, as an artist who is still trying to discern how I want to treat this genre. I love being in nature, & even received answers to prayer to confirm it as a personal direction for my art. It is the practice of art, through the ages, to be inspired by the masters & Klimt is truly an inspiration. I love these landscapes. I've heard it is true, as shown in this video, that all of your art experiences will influence all of your art, even in a different series/ genre. I am so eager to go paint from nature after seeing this.
Wow, these are incredible! The landscapes feel so joyful and lively. Thank you for making this virtual tour for us, I wish I could see it in person as well!
In my personal opinion, Klimt's landscapes, especially the ones painted in the latter years of his life, are his best. I guess it's because he painted these masterpieces without a thought to anyone but himself! I hope I'll be able one day to see this exhibition soon, I've only seen a few, at the Leopold in Vienna, which have only whetted my appetite for more.
Thank you for making this video, I love Klimt and to see his different works in one place, with curation, was wonderful! He was ahead of his time and immensely interesting!
I don't know if it has been pointed out before, but not that I know of, 4:27 The Rise of Photography and a new devotion to landscapes. In the early days of photography, landscape was a far easier subject to capture on film than a studio model and set-up, which dominated so many earlier canvases. The two forms in co-evolution makes so much sense in so many ways. Thank you for pointing in out.
And so Great that the curator shows images and really talks about them - its such a fine and wonderfull exhibition of the beauty of gardens and landscapes - something we all know and immediately recognize and rejoice in and yet something painted in a very special way - I would love to see these paintings in reality. 🙏for this treasure of a video of Klimt Landscape paintings 🎵💚🧡🖤🩶🤍🩵🎶
I also saw his paintings at The Belvedere ,in Vienna...first time I saw "Woman in Gold". I have since been at The Neue a few times, going there for the landscapes exhibit.
Beautifully presented exhibition; many thanks for this. Exquisite paintings, and I have learned so much of interest about Klimt and his times, especially during the years prior to WW1, the calm before the storm which brought catastrophe.
Magnifique !! Merci pour la présentation. My eyes watered as i was looking at the presentation. I unfortunately cannot go to NY to see it so it is much appreciated that you published this. Auf Wiedersehen.

What do you mean a "safe" satellite gallery? The Neue Gallerie is an independent private museum and has proper security in place. I don't think its permanent collection is not large enough to split into two separate museums.
Fun fact... Austria is named after the ostrich. Österreich is the austrian name for Austria. Ostrich... Österreich... I'm sure that even the simplest among you can see the connection. Fun fact... Austria is also where kangaroos come from. Austria... land of ostriches and kangaroos and koalas and surfing and going walkabout.
Not sure about your claim of kangaroos coming from Austria. They are marsupials indigenous to Australia and New Guinea. They, along with wallabies, Tasmanian devils evolved from a common marsupial ancestor from South America.
I trust you are following other museums e.g. the Norton Simon in Pasadena, CA in having all the works protected behind glass. You want to minimize the possibility of vandalism. Take care of yourself and the Klimt works.
Love Klimt but too bad this gallery not only doesn't do any reciprocal museum memberships but their price of even a single admission is unreasonably steep
Wait till you see the FAMOUSE FRENCH ARTIST : William bouguereau ... He is one the most advanced and talented Realistic and Fantasia Artist in the World .
Danke! 🫶🏻 I absolutely love art history and all the greats but Klimt is one of my favourites. Unmistakable style, moves your emotions and stuns you that such works of beauty could be painstakingly created. Have the XXL TASCHEN book of his lifes work. Get it or see it if you can, its circa £150 for a huge, beautifully detailed book. 🇮🇪 💜
Thank you showing us all such a beautiful presentation of beautiful artwork.
YOu very Welcome !

@@anthonylemkendorf3114 Anthony, I need more than one word to understand your response. 😊 .
Klimt was talented beyond belief.
Stunning exhibition. I wish I had seen this.
Really fascinating and interesting to see how he painted such beautiful pictures of Landscape..
Thanks for sharing this beautiful video.. regards
Would be so unbelievble to visit.

Very beautiful
I wish I could see this in person. And I wish i could find good images of some landscapes that I could try to paint. I'm in love.
I know!
Exceptional beauty under one roof. 🖼️ 🦚 🖼️

I have enjoyed going to this wonderful gallery. I have never seen the landscapes.

This is true art. AI will always be bereft of wisdom and a soul.
I saw Klimt work in Austria. It was the first time I saw people crying in front of a canvas.
I also saw his paintings at The Belvedere ,in Vienna...first time I saw "Woman in Gold". I have since been at The Neue a few times, going there for the landscapes exhibit.

Excellent 💯💯💯
I may have to go here rather than my usual favorite, the Met, on my next NYC trip.
Make it quick. The exhibition ends on 6th May.

A safe satellite Gallery in upstate would be incredible. The Neue is just too important.

After this video, I want green walls in my home, the same shade.

Luid!
Why did Mr Klimt wear a dress ?
That was his painter's smock.
