@BicycleDutch Take care! Health first! We can wait... Nice green ride, glad to see trees planted between road and bicycle path, they are the best windbreakers in stormy seasons. And create a safer feeling when they are full grown. Keeps away the noise a little, give shade and this should be done everywhere.
When I first moved to my City, Vancouver WA, I was impressed with the Bike lanes (White lines and a 🚲 painted in it) and earlier this year I got an E-Bike, and was off, but then I found Not Just Bikes, and you and others, well to say we have a way to go is an understatement. love the channel. and would like to see some of the small shops that support these routes,
How marvellously civilized these routes are. Such intercity routes are decades away for Canada, but they can be imagined where population density suggests it would be desirable. We are getting more of this around Ottawa, but are decades behind the Dutch. Go, Netherlands! ( I think the scooter ought to be on the roads with the cars. Eh…?) What a civilized country.
they are mostly on the roads. there are two types of scooters 25KM an hour no helmet allowed on bicycle paths(not in Amsterdam) and 45KM an hour that use the roads where possible. e-bikes are limited to 25KM an hour the same as the slow scooters.
@@boxie001 And E-bikes that go up to 45 km/h are in category II and should use the road in the build up areas and cycle path outside build up areas. Just as scooters and other mopeds in the same category.
The Dutch have an interesting way of making the light change! 20:48 But, seriously, thank you for these virtual rides. I always enjoy them, but, at the same time, they do make me very envious.
Hahaha, it's the covid vibes, I don't touch 'em either. Which in a city centre is fine, since there are cycle sensors in the road ;) At this crossing however I just ignored the lights, bc I was in a hurry to catch the train 😂 + it was very easy to see if it was safe to cross
Thank you. Very nostalgic for me as it brought back beautiful memories as my family and I had lived in Zeist for over a year in 1986/87 and we mostly travelled by bicycle on many of the paths you showed. I am Australian and my wife Dutch. I always said that the bicycle paths in the Netherlands are the eighth wonder of the world!
Ha, this is great, it's in the area where I live and I cycle these roads almost daily. Was watching the whole video searching for familiar faces X) Thank you that you show this area to all over the world!
We are doing well in my city. When I re-started cycling we had about 80 miles of walking/cycling trails now about 10 year later we have nearly 140 miles of trail. For a country, America, so involved with the car industry, I feel this is a good start.
@Fjodor Tabularasa Because our trails have, finally, began to interconnect they can and are becoming transportation routes. My only local transportation is by bike. I shop by bike. I ride to work by bike. My bike has become what my car was. I no longer own any other vehicle, just me and my bike. It's been a real life saver for me.
I have watched many of your videos "DB" and always a Thumps Up for your efforts and appreciation. This area was unbelievable as a rider, perhaps some area not to your liking as Tourist bus drivers. If a mode of movement involves Fuel it needs to be in the road with the cars and trucks meaning Scooters. I like Scooters just Not a pedestrian/cycling path. I noticed no one announces their intent to pass (verbal, Bell) that guy that was rude as he was aware of you. Thanks for this video I have seen Heaven.
I love your virtual reality videos Bicycle Dutch. Sitting at home in London UK I can go on a safe cycle ride in the Netherlands any time I like. But, we don't allow dangerous petrol driven scooters on our cycle paths.
Only the 25 kmph scooters are allowed, the 50 kmph models have to drive on the road. The have different license plates (blue for the 25 version and yellow for the 50 version).
That's why I activate them with my elbow or sleeve. Never with my hands anymore! And luckily most of them have a sensor for bicycles, no touching required when biking.
Really! I think I saw a (satire?) video once where they showed something like this (done by family father) and then similar behavior like putting your street-shoed feets on the table during sunday lunch (done by the son). Video asking: Is there any difference? I think that video should make a comeback.

Started watching "not only bikes" some time ago and am now becoming annoyingly critical. Even with the almost perfect infrastructure, cars are still too loud
Most people wearing helmets in the video are sports cyclists. They are riding high-performance cycles. They are wearing lycra and shoes that clip onto the pedals. They are pushing hard and taking risks. Good idea for them to wear helmets. I do.
Those motorized vehicles on the dutch cycliepaths aren’t allowed to go faster than 25 Km/h like e-bikes, but most of them make them go faster until they get caught by the police.
@Fjodor Tabularasa Well it does feel kind of close to the road given the road speed. Not sure what the exact plan for systemic safety is, but a curb instead of a slope would be nicer I guess
My favorite type of youtube video: someone riding responsibly in an area where he won't get killed because he dared tried to turn left. Also, American TH-camrs are going to get ebikes banned in this country because of the stupid crap they do.
In my country that’s literally great cycling infrastructure, 😔 and I don’t see anything dangerous with that I’ve been walking alongside trucks 10 cm from me at 80kph my whole life so I’m used to it but I’d really want a more modern system where I am but no one cares and drives cars
Enjoy it while you can. A group of doctors who suffer from brain damage themselves want a mandatory bicycle helmet law in the Netherlands. Soon we will be like Australia or the USA where people take the car to the supermarket 1 km away because it is more convenient and apparently safer as you don't need to dress up like going to a war. Less money will be spend on cycling infrastructure until it eventually disappears to make room for cars. Thanks doctors for being so stupidly narrow minded! Thanks for taking away the best thing we as Dutch achieved in the last 40 years. Thanks for looking only at people who fall of their bikes instead of the bigger picture. Thanks doctors for punishing us and learn nothing from Australia where riding a bicycle only got less safer after introduction of the mandatory bicycle helmet law. I bet bicycle helmets will reduce cyclist fatalities to practically zero just like the law against using your phone on a bicycle. Wow did that have an impact......like no effect at all, well except for cars going faster since now the cyclist gets the blame! I'm not even going to start about health benefits, the pollution from producing all the plastic helmets that have to be replaced every year, the logistic problems in schools and stores bike parking to make space for all the helmets. It's probably going to cost lives. But who cares? I think I'll buy a car again. If riding a bicycle at that dangerous then I rather drive to the supermarket.

For us Dutch those are mainly sport cyclists, elderly/disabled, tourists and now also people on electric bikes that go pretty fast.
