I did not realize all these "family" relationships were so "transactional" until you read it slowly and broke it down. Reminds me of today's worldly terms: "Gaslighting" && "Projecting" their insecurities onto other people. I see it as the opposite of "Content." Thanks for reading us this story! God Bless You! 😇 Well done!

Apparently mandrakes are very popular in magic, not just for fertility purposes but also “love positions,” psychic enhancement, and protection from evil spirits. Laban plainly tells Jacob in Genesis 30:27 “I have learned by divination that the Lord has blessed me because of you.” The translation “divination” in this case comes from the Hebrew root nachash (נחש‎). The same root used to describe the serpent in Genesis 3:1. Then in Genesis 31:30 Laban asks “But why did you steal my gods?” Clearly Laban was at least a seasoned pagan. According to Jewish tradition, Laban was a sorcerer who intentionally tried to destroy Jacob, knowingly working against God’s will for Jacob and the nations that would come from Jacob. This just gives us some insight that Leah and Rachel probably knew a thing or two about witchcraft and idol worship from their father, hence the mandrakes being so important to both of them.
Knowing the Jewish tradition that Laban was a sorcerer, it explains Genesis 31:29 when Laban tells Jacob “I have power to do you great harm, but last night the God of your father said to me, ‘Be careful not to say anything to Jacob, either good or bad.’” And in Genesis 31:42 when Jacob responds to Laban “if the God of my father had not been on my side - the God of Abraham and the fearsome God of Isaac - you would have sent me away empty-handed. But God has seen your abuse and my hard work. That is why he appeared to you last night and rebuked you!”
Clearly there was a little more going on with Laban’s mistreatment of Jacob than merely selfishness.

I was just reading this same passage last night. I was listening to you talk about the fact that Rachel seemed to claim almost ownership to the actions of her husband Jacob. Almost controlling like. But I personally think that because we know Jacob made no bones about Rachel being his “favorite”. He felt it from the beginning. Never realllllly wanted to marry Leah in the first place right. So Leah also knows this. So I’m sure the whole family dynamic was used to this system. As it has been declared almost after Jacob arriving at the House of the two sisters in the beginning. So I’m not so sure that Rachel viewed him as her property but more of her backing the truth. They all 3 knew Rachel was his favorite. And perhaps Jacob really wanted to spend his most nights with her anyways. Perhaps Rachel “had” to ask Jacob to go please go into Leah’s tent as it’s been a long time etc. who knows.
Anyways, I also find it ironic that Jacob got so angry at his Father in law for deceiving him with Leah on the wedding night instead of Rachel. Is it just me or do you think it might be possible God was giving Jacob a little payback for deceiving his own brother Essau for his father’s blessing?! Now all of sudden Jacob realizes how Essau must have felt by being betrayed and deceived. Interesting isn’t it. 😊
I also wonder why Laben wanted to stick with his false idols and keep them even going after them searching Jacob’s tents after seeing how blessed Jacob was. I wonder why Laben was not interested in learning about the one true God of Jacob?

This is great! I never noticed all the patterns of rivalry on every side. Makes me think of all the patterns of internal rivalry throughout Israel’s history... I’m not sure I agree with mandrakes being a pagan charm for fertility… it’s also mentioned in Song of Solomon 7:13. They’re foods and herbs that we use today that are used in the same way… it seems like it’s just a plant that has medicinal properties, but not necessarily pagan.

I want to interject something you may have not considered... in the ancient days a widowed woman with no children was permitted although it is considered wrong to us in these current times, but in those times their culture it was not considered immoral to obtain a offspring through her husband's brother. Having children was extremely important for a widowed woman as her children provided care for her in her old age, there was no social security nor aid then. Possibly that may be why Rachel said that without a child she would die.

Romans 16:16 - Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.
Colossians 1:18 - And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
Matthew 16:18 - And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Acts 20:28 - Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin, traveling from place to place as the Lord commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. 2 So they quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water to drink.”
Moses replied, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the Lord to the test?”
3 But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?”
4 Then Moses cried out to the Lord, “What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
5 The Lord answered Moses, “Go out in front of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. 6 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 And he called the place Massah[a] and Meribah[b] because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”
    The Amalekites Defeated
8 The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. 9 Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”
10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up-one on one side, one on the other-so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven.”
15 Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner. 16 He said, “Because hands were lifted up against[c] the throne of the Lord,[d] the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.”

    “God opposes the proud
but shows favor to the humble.” a
6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
8Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
10And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 11To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.
    Final Greetings
12With the help of Silas, b whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it.
13She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you her greetings, and so does my son Mark. 14Greet one another with a kiss of love.
Peace to all of you who are in Christ.

Yes, he wrested for his place in God's kingdom. I am one who is called by his grace and fought for my place in line to love our Lord 💞 ..... The struggle is real in that realm more real than what's here.... God has opened my eyes to the magic he creates and the power he possesses..... Our God is the most powerful God in the universe.... He's the only God, everything was created from, through and below him! ..... I hear my forefathers speak of their coming into the knowledge of our father before and especially after Christ, and see that it was completely and totally who he was that ever allowed those doors to be open. Jesus knew who I was and knew those demons by name... When I say I Am, and know and understand it's powers, it was never because of new age religion but because I had always believed God's word before God's word ever believed in me ❤️❤️ ..... It is Christ who humbles man's heart from not using the powers of God to destroy this world 🌍 ...... Pay close attention to what is going on in the nation Israel and our own ... He came to me in that name to pray for my land of America.... And he's every god my ancestors ever followed, but ONE ...... There is a court in heaven and a King over the nation of Israel..... The King stands in the courts of our God fighting all the complaints coming in against Israel..... I am his servant, and he's sent me to do his will.... Love his people and pray for his nation Israel ❤️ and pray for the peace of our forefathers, God knows they plead for us night and day.... Father in pray whoever reads this understands beyond measure the love you have for them. You would send the world to find and return your servant back to you..... We trust in you, we believe and you have become our first love over all of the nations to exist..... Bless your holy name Lord Jesus ❤
