- New player guide for those looking to try out awakening sage. This guide is for anyone looking to pick up awakening sage after the recent buffs the class received. Awakening sage's PvE capabilities have improved overall with several skills in the kit receiving damage buffs and Lightning Prison now an optimal skill to use for damage.
If you have any questions or suggestions feel free to leave a comment down below. One final note, this is not a definitive be-all-end-all. I will update this guide as more changes come down the line for the class.

My red orcs video shows my current crystal setup. Only thing that's changed is my gear which is just higher DP with my labreska helm

I have just retagged Sage because this awesome guide explaining stuff I always had wondered about. Impressive job, tyvm! Please include some Info about NW/Siege and movement guide in the mentioned/upcoming PvP. This would be next to perfect.
The PvP guide will have general gameplay tips and notes specifically for Awakened Sage. I won't be including Node/Siege content as I've been out of that scene for a long time. Most of my pvp now comes from Open World/GvG/AoS/ and RBF

I do, but I'm going to spend more time with the succession kit and trying to optimize it in the current meta game for PvE. Right now I find it more enjoyable in zones where you can one tap mobs. I'm going to spend some time grinding elvia regions with it and seeing how it stacks up.

This is such a good guide. I'm just coming back to the game and wanted to pick up Sage. This is amazing.
Just a tip for the future, you could edit in the skills you suing or buttons you pressing. It's not a big one but for example, since I'm new to the class I don't know all the skills like I would on ninja (main). So Whenever you were saying which skills to use I had to write it down xD
I added syntax in the description for PC users to make it a bit easier. My original plan was to add more visual icons for skill combos but I rushed it a bit on that end.

Hey nice guide! You might want to change your enlightening bolt add ons because the aoe is pretty small for debuffs. I think it will be better on upsurge as it has bigger aoe and your debuffs will hit more targets.
That's probably a good idea for optimizing pve. The add-ons I'm running in the vod are more in line with PvX, so I'll go back and add a link for a more optimized setup.

Can you also tell which skills I can lock/should lock in pre-awa? Which skills should use via hotbar and why/when?

The only two skills that would be mandatory to lock are the basic evasion and Ators Thorn. This allows you to cast Shock Relay from pre-awakened for quick swapping and immediately quick casting another skill.
The new magnus skill is good but you won't ever be using it in awakening. With awakening grind you'll always be cycling skills in that kit. As for artifacts you'll want monster ap x 2 with the wilds set[3 predation 1 irridescent] for full monster ap. For BiS you can run damage types specific for the zone you are grinding with monster AP artifacts.

I´ve always been an alt-aholic in these games.
Now that you don´t have a real reason to level past 62 (can be done in literally 4 days on season servers), I´m gonna be needing more character slots.
I´ve been replacing all my alts with level 62 season characters. Two per season.
The only class I don´t have atm is Guardian. (deleted the one I had to try Nova when she released).
Any specific gear / artifact + lightstone suggestions you would recommend for this class?
For general PvE double Monster AP + Predation Lightstone combo. For PvP depending on the offhand I'm running I will either use Mag Acc with Trained Fists or focus Lightstones or I will run Mag AP with +Hidden AP. Once you start pushing to DUO/TRI FG I would recommend swapping to evasion. Though sage has no passives or innate % bonuses the class does have some of the highest base evasion and you will notice a difference between that and DR.

I just want to add that Shock Relay is not an Arkannon skill. It's simple player damage and not summon damage (which is good) Summon damage such as the Arkannon extra hits have the huge problem that they still do not benefit from most caster buffs. No special damage like crit or back attack damage works on them and they instead have a flat 2x crit damage modifier, where as players while grinding usually have around 2.42x crit.
I've had some back and forth in the class discord regarding the damage and caster benefits. As far as it's understood, Crit Hit Rate still affects Arkanon. As for other special attacks they seem to be applying the modifiers accordingly, as least from what I've seen when I grind. I'll do some testing and see if I can get anything conclusive.
@@ekthelios1393 Yes, crit hit rate works, but no special damage like crit damage. Summons only have the base line special modifiers that a player would have without any gear or draughts.

Same for chain lightning for the mp per hit. Do these add one stake with the skills effect?
They stack, both the -eva and +mp gain per hit
Great guide thanks but when I go to skill enhancement I don't see Ator's palm i see reconstructed fist is that the new name? Are they the same skill?
I believe its still the same. I will double check though just to be sure.

for skills that have +mana like chain lightning and impaling flash I would opt for -dp / + crit dmg or back atk to maximize dps
Very good guide but the class feels kind of underwhelming when it comes to how satisfying I expected it to be, with animations and whatnot, so think I'll reroll to either archer or tamer (hopefully they're good now after some buffs)

New player here and confused. Everytime i use Shift+directional keys, i always go back to pre awekening skills. So, how do i go back fast to awakening?
I usually use W+F to go back to awk. But if you dont want that accident happen again, open skill tab (K hotkey) and click the lock button on that skill to prevent it to cast next time
That is caused by using shift + direction when Bolt is on cooldown AND you are not overcharged. I recommend locking ators thorn in pre-awakening so you can cast RMB and immediately swap from pre-awakened or usinge spearbolt w+f. You can also use Spacebar(Surge) to quickly swap as well
Hey bud I don't think Ators spear -9% evasion rate will stack with the -4 evasion rate add on. Only the highest will apply.
Addons are entirely separate and stack with everything.
i love the video for the visual demonstration! and everything up to the part where you start breaking the combos down is EXCELLENT! but as a new comer to the sage class and cancelling .. you did NOT do a good job breaking down the actual combos themselves and you went WAY fast during the combos with not enough button pres explanation for me to keep up.. im going to have to go hunt down guides on the combos for sage so i can try to get a better explanation and demonstration for the timing of the cancel during the combos!
again LOVE the video! i now know how much faster sage can be! but you just went too fast through the combos for me to understand the timing of the cancel and which skills to tie together with the cancel!

The main combo to run once mobs are pulled would be Shock Relay -> Spearbolt -> Ator's Spear -> Radiant Annihilation -> Enlightning bolt -> Relay -> Aftershock -> Surge. Usually most packs will be dead by then but if not you can finish up Upsurge -> Interrogate
@@ekthelios1393 thanks, im still learning all the basics and sage feels kinda slow, clunky and slippery, but i guess it takes a little while to get used to it. do you use shift+direction to reposition behind the mobs as much as possible? died a few times on jade starlight tryring some combos. hehe
@@bengertzz Some things to know about Jade Starlight is the cone attacks the mobs do are unblockable and you generally want to avoid taking damage. Use Spearbolt or Aftershock to help with positioning while dealing damage and use bolt to move when you can. The nice thing about Bolt is their is no collision so you can easily dash through mobs
Is this still viable at 2023?
Am I being stupid but my Speer bolt doesn’t make me face the target after it only goes like 90 degrees
If you do the full cast it should place you behind the target and the camera will automatically turn so that it's behind you.
How does this guide keep up with the new changes to sage?
Its still pretty current. Since I published the guide sage has received more damage buffs and more are on the way. Once we get the buffs coming in next weeks update I'll mess around with the changes coming to Impaling and see how it stands up. I believe our grind will get better since we are getting buffs that allow us to travel better between groups.

Bro i tried using this after awakening. How do u nto accidentally shift weapon to the cube? I always find myself needing to press C. To get back to the spear.

@@selmirvelic7109 yeah its annoying so i shifted back to succecion. Im not touching the awakening again. Unless they fix that. One wrong button press you will use skills from the base sage
@@imsoooonotit9176 What skills are you using in your rotation that put you in pre-awakening? You will always stay in awakening during your combos and if you do find yourself in pre-awakening you can now lock Ators Thorn and use RMB to cast Shock Relay from Pre-Awakened kit
@@ekthelios1393 i always end up using the dash. Dash that returns if you hold the button. W+rmb.
@@imsoooonotit9176 Oh! You're using form shift which puts your back into Pre-Awakened. You can use W + F to cast spearbolt and go back into awakened and it will keep you in SA even after using Form Shift. You can also lock Form Shift to prevent yourself from transfering into that skill during your rotations

@@bengertzz I have +20 monster AP on spearbolt. Since it's a T2 add on its easily to maintain it permanently with Spearbolt and Aftershock

My brain can't adapt to awakening. So much space/RMB spamming.
There only skill you really need to use Surge after is spearbolt. As for RMB, I demonstrated a technique to hold down RMB so you aren't haven't to stress over precision timing. Sage will cast RMB as soon as possible when holding it down
awakening is fun and really cool but the skills are so fast and there is so much going on that it makes me feel like im button spamming. i kinda like how succ sage feels more.
