Does the tweak knob allow you to adjust the parameters of each the mod, tone, and age and have them all present to at the same time to any one of the 5 delay types? @@markjohnstonofficial OK thanks. I haven't really "jelled" with a delay/looper pedal since I sold my last Boss DD-20 about 10 years ago. Have high hopes for the Eccos, and have one coming next week.
Great sound! Thx - your video is very interesting for me. Do you play the Benson preamp and the Iridium at the same time (serial)? Isn't it too much? Do you use the Immerse and Mercury as alternatives or at the same time? Thx from Germany.
Nice video you talk about things we should be aware of before purchasing... Question I am new to playing electric guitar could I get slap back echo from this pedal ?

Hey Mark! I’m a newb and I’m just wondering how you dial in the tempo (18:50) where the light goes 1, 2, 3, pause... then back again? Do I need MIDI to get that kind of tempo pacing? Or is it just coz you’re dialed into the dotted 8th tempo?
I honestly have never noticed that. My assumption is that it’s a product of the shutter speed on my camera and the refresh rate on the LED not aligning. But honestly I have no idea.
Absolutely amazing video, Mark. You really highlighted some great features on it, and I’m very pleased you also brought up its quirks. Like the honesty. One question for you, do you feel that it not having analog dry through is an issue, or perhaps a benefit? And, why would they choose to go that route over analog dry through? Running a wet/dry rig could be an issue with latency from digital to analog conversion. I think anyway. Cheers, and thanks again!
walrusaudioeffects thanks for the reply. What does that mean, exactly? (Hope that doesn’t sound negative in anyway, I’m truly curious, because I have say the El Capistan which is analog dry through and goes full wet/dry - I believe anyway!). Perhaps I’m misunderstanding.
If you are running a wet/dry/wet rig you should be prepped for phase inversion already as a bare minimum cautionary measure, with that in mind any theoretical latency from the conversion could easily be solved for. And I appreciate the kind words about the video. I think it's more valuable to discuss quirks and potential issues with a pedal even more so with a pedal like this because at the end of the day I am HUGELY impressed with this one. Even with some drawbacks I still find it to be a killer delay that I enjoy the hell out of and will be using on mono and stereo rigs moving foreword. I hadn't even considered Walrus' reply about using it as the junction point for a wt dry rig but that is actually awesome.
I have a question, maybe stupid: if I put this pedal after a mono chain, and use the mono input, the manual says in this case the pedal will act in dual mono, if, eg, going out to a stereo reverb. Does this setup will compromise the dual stereo mode and be less "bouncy" in the stereo field?
Is it possible to run two pedal chains into the mono inputs and then the outputs going to two different amps? I'm not looking for stereo, just interested in using the one delay pedal for two different pedal chains going to two different amps.
Thanks for the video! I have two questions: 1. Doesn't look like you're going stereo from Immerse to Iridium. Is the second cable hidden? 2. Have you tried delay and reverb after the Iridium? Did you like it better last in the chain? Thanks!
I like using the iridium last for two reasons; 1. I like adding that “amp feel” to my wet effects. 2. I use the headphone jack for setting stuff up and randomly testing ideas so it need to be last. And the Neunaber stuff allows you to run a TRS out of their second output to run single cable stereo. It’s amazing and is a super convenient way to get to TRS stereo in pedals like the Meris and Strymon pedals.
Does this thing have trails? I definitely need that in a delay pedal! And how does preset switching working on the pedal? I know you can cycle between the three levels of groups (A, B, C) but does clipping both buttons at the same time cycle between levels 1,2, 3 or A, B, C?
You can switch tails on and off. It is described in the manual. Switching: The Mako D1 has 3 banks (A, B, C) with 3 presets each (Red, Green, Blue). The banks you can choose by the toggle switch. You can switch through the presets by pushing both TAB and Bypass.
Currently running a similar setup, just bought a tapestry VP, learned that they are made in my hometown, but wondering why is it between your dry and wet effects, instead of in the front or at the end?
Volume pedal after drives means my gain staging is always consistent and I am only changing volume. Volume pedal before wet effects means that I can roll back my volume without abruptly cutting off my reverb and delay trails
@@markjohnstonofficial Thanks for replying, I will try this out, for the record, I am loving this walrus D1 delay, and just ordered the goodwood audio splitter/phase inverter. Loving the long content videos so far.
Cool video. I noticed that you said it’s your favorite “mono delay pedal.” What’s your favorite stereo delay? I would love to have a delay that gives me a nice stereo sound, even with basic delays.
Hey there! So ran into a problem. . I'm plugged into my amt preamp mono...then mono out to the D1... Then stereo out of the D1 into a stereo Reverb then into two amps... Why is it when I bypass the D1 pedal.. It plays out of left amp only (my reverb remains stereo. .. Yeah you’re fine. The EchoSystem does everything and does it well. It’s a fantastic pedal and the Polymoon has incredible stereo; above almost any other delay pedal.
My main concern with this pedals it that they've gone too far with the compact enclosure. Those footswitches look like they're very tightly spaced (same thing with the JHS and ealier Walrus Audio delays) and I could easily see that being a problem in a live setting where you migh turn it off when attempting to set the tempo or vice versa. And probably even worse on a dark stage.
It’s possible that my bias comes from a LOT of stage time with Chase Bliss pedals but I don’t ever quite seem to have that issue. Besides, I almost entirely use midi to bypass and control tempo these days so the pedal is more of a brain and less of an interface for me.
How do you encounter playing with the pedal live ? I seem to have a little bit of an issue trying to change the presets within one bank.maybe it's just my feet lol
