Forget it that guy Mat was a complete jerk and he should never have thrown you on your head. if I ever see him on the street I will beat him up for you. it wasn't disloyal or dishonorable it was just plain mean!
Chael doesn't expect us to agree with him,. Okay, great. Oh, and by the way, Chael doesn't expect Brazilians not to lift a donkeys tail and insert a gas pump nozzle, either.
In Colombia, boys and men actually fornicate with female donkeys... the country is Catholic, so the young women, quite often hold out until marriage...the young women, in Colombia where an ugly one is still an 8/10 🤣 anyway I digress, in north Colombia they, the young boys, teens, men actually f*ck donkeys 😞 I'm not joking either, the doco on this er, phenomena is easy to track down too..just google* donkey sex, Colombia... straight away, it comes up and it is hilarious and true 😊 one should always be kind to donkey's and other hard working animals, it's what they deserve...yep, these donkeys are not exactly 'hurt'!
This story is hilarious. I had a brief exchange with Lindland at the PanAms this year. Not exactly a warm and fuzzy moment but at least he looked in my direction.
This truly saddens me. Chael's father obviously didn't have the resources to hire Matt as Chael's personal, live-in, trainer. You have to make big sacrifices growing up in West Linn.
A little different when you're wrestling, or when you are a wrestler in MMA, and your opponent is going to get held down, and probably bruised, maybe a bloody nose, and they walk out of there and go on with their lives vs. sending my heel through my friend's temple at 40 mph and maybe ending his career right there. Team Quest had some of the best fighters of all time, but with the exception of Leben they weren't truly dangerous strikers. Anderson Silva and Machida said they would never fight each other, because it's different for them. I'm reminded of watching Machida kneeling in the cage waiting to see if Mark Munoz was going to wake up. GSP and Rory, not KO fighters, but there was a definite age gap/mentor relationship that prohibits the true attack mentality needed to truly fight... at least among human beings. Not sure what happened to Matt Lindland.
Wrestling or grappling a friend would be one thing. Mma or an actual fight would be a lot tougher tho. The pride wouldn't be the issue for me. it would just be causing physical damage to someone who I don't want to actually hurt nor do I want to see hurt.
Again, you are another person who believes the legal moves chosen and used in school organized wrestling are designed to hurt the other person, when the opposite is true. Here is the reason for Matts actions in competition. He want to win by as many points as he can no mater who he wrestles, and it is that attitude that helped make him the best in the nation at the time. There was no "intent" to hurt Chael, or he would have broken the rules and gouged his eyes out.
EarthSurferUSA well if u actually read my comment instead of going off on a rant to tell me how "uninformed" I am. You would see I made that distinction. That is why I could do a wrestling match or a grappling match vs a friend. Who ever wins u can both go home at the end of the day with no serious consequence. I would have a hard time with an mma fight due to striking and submissions being involved. U can't control if his face breaks or he gets concussed or if he refuses to tap and something tears. These are the things I would have a hard time doing to someone I have no Ill will against.
I love this story. Very true in judo world to be matched against teammates or former coaches. And yes they will flip or dump u on your head if they can. U can still learn from the loss :)
I once got unnecessarily thrown from my All American heavyweight training partner in practice. He took me down, lifted me, then performed a 5 point throw on me... IN FOLKSTYLE!!!
I like this clip Uncle. Surely, at the end of the day, these guys are professional athletes, and (normally) they're not fighting because they dislike each other. They fight because they're fighters! Anyone, anytime. We as viewers love the drama, but we love the fight more.
when i wrestled in the 90s and early 2000s a tech fall was 15 points but I wrestled in Pennsylvania so i was wondering if different states had different rules. UR THE FN MAN CHAEL!!!
My goodness ladies! If the move proved to break necks,---it would not be a legal move. That match probably made Chael a better wrestler. Not because his coach took it easy on him, but because his coach showed Chael, in real competition, where the bar is for the best in the nation. Unlike what is taught today in schools, I would never want a better competitor take it easy on me in a fair competition. Because not only is it a form of welfare IMO, (as a participation trophy is), but it will not show me where the bar is that I am trying to beat.
I understand why they call them teammates but personally in my opinion when it comes to fighting there is no teammates them teammates are not going to be on the mat with you when you are doing your sport AKA fighting so to me there is no teammates I'd say gym partner sparring partners gym Buddies but like I said in the end when it comes down to it when you step in that ring you are there to fight by yourself what's your opponent who is by themselves there is no team
To a core of philosophy, it is communistic to call everybody "part of a team, part of a group with a common goal, be a part of something bigger than your self", (all that bull crap). But it is American, based on individualism, to love sports based on the individual. Even as a young school kid, all I saw in team school sports was a dictator coach and a bunch of "workers" jumping up and down on command. That is why I wrestled and raced dirt bikes, where I could sing, "I did it myyyyyyyyy waaaaayyyyyyy". :) You sir,---are a good American!!!! Every bit of human greatness we enjoy today, came from some individual mind. That is why the USA grew so fast.
Oh I'm not from Scotland I am half Scottish half Welsh but I'd love to go at some point. Born and bred in Wales and its alright here and yes it's bloody freezing of late lol
Chael wouldn't have done that to him if the tables were turned. But Chael is able to use critical thinking and just generally is a good man. His loyalty to people is unmatched imo. He knows that was a shit thing of Matt to do but he is willing to be objective and even give Matt a pass, saying it's how they all were. When you only need a point to get the 10-0, you don't slam anyone on their head, let alone someone who you coach and should care about. Anyone with an IQ over potato, that isn't a complete psycho should be able to weigh out the risk/reward, and act with some self control. Especially if you're trying to be an Olympic athlete. "As a thanks for your generosity and support Mr. Sonnen, I decided to paralyze your son and try my best to leave him zero self esteem lol. Might be normal for some, but it def is not how you treat people
I don't necessarily disagree with fighting teammates but there is something to be said about them having a more intimate knowledge of your strengths and weaknesses than someone who doesn't work with you literally daily. Of course that goes both ways.
I think Matt beat you like that because he was afraid of you. Through anxiety he knows your capabilities and his limitations. He had to beat you now that you were at the same level as him. It was a long term statement. Imo. I’m a young wrestling coach and have this feeling when going against my former pupils that now compete at the college level. Jealously I think is how you put it. The corrupt desire to protect what you have.
@Fluke Yeah... anxiety and jealousy extend from problems within the ego. Ego is the reason you see people at Combat Gyms knock out newcomers on purpose.
@Fluke well I'm sure that's the flawed logic in their head, but there isnt a reputable gym out there that knocks out newcomers as a lesson. But people that knockout newcomers usually do get taught a lesson by getting knocked out by the gyms top fighters.
Chael, I love your content but is there any way to get all these bits in one longer episode? You just posted like a million little snip it's and I just don't have the time to 1 by 1 them before you put out another million, LOL...slow down or put them together ;) Btw, you need your kid back on the show to keep you in check.
Chael just a heads up... try and make your videos 13:31 or more.. you will get more veiws and help with the algorithm. Also it will bring more ad revenue.
When The Bad Guy has to throw Lindland on his head in front of his Dad, who purchased his ticket to the tournament, he does it. Friendships are friendships. And business... is business.
We all know why Lindland dumped you on your head, Uncle Chael. As my father used to warn me, these rough and tumble guys from less privileged locations went all week waiting for the chance to put their hands on a rich kid. Life's not great for them but at least they get the chance to level the playing field for 6 minutes by turning the match into a fight. If I were to guess, the motivation behind the lift and launch would be exactly the fact that daddy paid for him to attend and you're the rich kid. Why would you expect you're father's money to act as a deterrent to such animosity? In reality, it was actually the catalyst! But I'm sure you know this deep down...
I'm sure Matt had his moments of being the nail in those situations as well and accepted it just as well as Chael. It's called accepting reality, rather than asking others to play along with you delusions, which is very popular in the world today.
Team Alpha Male, the Faber camp, would not allow the UFC to match the team fighters against each other. Then they tried to stack the team with all the top 135/145lb fighters they could recruit. You would think that would insure the team a nearly perpetual belt, but it never worked out that well for them.
There's a scene in Rocky II. All the bullshit is over, all the people are gone. Apollo and Rocky are in the hospital, and Rocky walks to Apollo's door. He asks "did you give me all you had" Apollo said Yeah. I think your coach knew you and he knew that if he didn't give everything that he had you would feel even worse about it.
NOW!! "I dont expect you guys to agree with that theory" BUT "you may wanna disagree with me" I'M JUST ANSWERING Just like a good Casino... Chael never loses

coincidence? i think not.
Best comment ever😂

Are you saying he didn’t live up to the standard set by Dr. Emmett Brown?
1997: Chael takes a head injury, 2019: Epstein didn't kill himself
Dang, Uncle Chael is so good that he can be down 15 and still come back to win and remain undefeated
I was thinking the same thing, undisputed.
Lol the casuals won't know what this means
Chaels dad paid him a little extra to show “no mercy”
"It was super neccesary."
Hahaha😂😂😭
Chael recently went the Middle east and made a fortune selling desert sand to people living there
underrated comment
It's rumored that Chael turned a garage into a lucrative petting zoo in Brazil
He then made the trip to Antarctica and tripled his earning by selling ice to the Eskimos
As an israeli, i can confirn this message

This guy has stories for days, man. I would consider it an honor and privilege to go camping w/ Chael.

Lindland probably has brain damage at this point tbh
His soul is still traveling across astral planes after he was knocked out by Vitor Belfort and Robbie Lawlor.
My HS wrestling coach was Maynard James Keenan's father, and when he still wrestled with the HS team, he could beat most of us with just his legs.
Uncle Chael, always speaking the truth. It comes across so well.
fury got up because chael said "listen."

“You could fih- MMA guy in brazil that i’ve never met befo- I’ve trained with some- by 1 degree you sa- we all know each other”

CHAEL: "I'm down 9-0, just one more point against me and the match will be over."
LINDLAND: "I CAN'T LET YOU GET CLOSE!" [high amplitude throw]
Again after again after again...love the closing melody uncle Chael!!
Very professional, yet cold-blooded. I like that mentality.

Absolutely love all the Uncle Chael songs :-) keep it going!
We all know Chael let him win by technical fault Just cause that was his coach and the great American gangster is merciful

Shoveling out money. It's either a loan or a welfare subsidy.

15 points for highschool and college. he was competing in Greco
@nate aungst ...... Folkstyle/Freestyle vs Greco•Roman rules
It's different in fighting because there is more damage being done
Tech fall is 8 points in greco (at least nowadays). 10 points in freestyle.
Chael “chchchchoo” Sonnen

My goodness ladies! If the move proved to break necks,---it would not be a legal move. That match probably made Chael a better wrestler.
