The part about the french was hilarious, but being honestly here, nothing can top the gayness of psycho ex-girlfriend Croix, and her puppy lover, Chariot. Not even Hannah & Barbara....
Almost every major name on the series is a inside joke. From Atsuko Kagari to Hannah & Barbara. Ursula, Chariot, Croix and even the headmistress are all winks and references.
Well here comes the list. Atsuko Kagari is a reference to Atsuko Kagami, protagonist of "Himitsu no Akko-Chan", widely recognized as the first magical girl. Lotte Janson is a reference to the creator of "Moomin", Tove Jansson, alsoo Finnish. Sucy Manbavaran is a reference to the word "Mambabarang", meaning evil sorceress. Cavendish is a real British house, and Diana is probably named after the famous princess. Ursula/Chariot is a big thematic thing. Chariot is the French name for the Big Dipper, those being all the stars "inside" of the Shiny rod. The big dipper is also known as Ursa Major, hence URSULA. Also her fake surname is "Callistis", a misspelling on Callisto, which means...bear. The north star of the Big Dipper is Polaris. Meanwhile, Croix Meridies is French for Southern Cross, another hallmark constellation, being used for south orientation, with the big dipper being the north one.
