My Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and the believing men and women. Rabbi ighfir li wa liwalidayya wa lil-mu’minina wa al-mu’minat. ربي اغفرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ والمُؤمِنَات
The complete dua is wonderful surah Ibrahim 40-41 “My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and [many] from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication. Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established.”
This just shows how much these ulamaa know in relation to normal people and how much further in compesation they are just for knowing things like these. May Allah help us and grant us ilm annaafiyah

As salamu aleykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakathu,what does suffice for him mean?
One of the meanings of "suffice," in this case, is protection throughout the night.

What if we also say al ah'yaai minhum wal amwaat
What about a parent who was not muslim can we say this dua?..
Can one whose parents aren’t Muslim, but are still alive, read this dua?
You can recite it Alhamdulillah there is no harm in it
This wouldn't make sense as the dua of a polytheists is rejected and Allah SWT knows best
If you mean read it yourself for your parents whilst they're alive then yes that's fine but it would be good to make dua for your parents guidance.
