Thanks for the idea-i put this on my 2019 Veloster w/ PP and have left the air box lid off for now...def can clearly hear the BF valve now, and in N or custom mode the exhaust is even deeper...getting more looks now 😁
Hey I know this is suuuper old, but have you ran the lid off all the time after getting the filter? If so, have you had any issues? I just bought a Kona N and I took the lid off today with the stock filter and I was amazed, just ordered the exact replacement K&N filter from Amazon and I would love to leave the lid off, but I’m worried about rain and car washes getting on the filter, you think it’s okay?
Leaving the lid off will give you less power than the stock filter with the lid on. Keep the lid on so the car sucks in air through the intake tube in front of the radiator
how secure of a seal is that thing? i noticed for the full aftermarket cold air intake systems, the filter is actually clamped onto the tube to ensure a good seal will any contaminants get into the manifold, by passing the filter?
It was very secure! I literally drove 3k miles to NC (TAIL OF THE DRAGON) AND BACK ALL WITH THE TOP OFF TO HEAR THE BOV TUTUTU SOUND AND IT NEVER CAME LOSE!
I will say this car has great acceleration from a roll. I wish I had the video but I raced a 2015 or16 scat pack on a hwy and we were even from 60 to about 130 he let off. I know from a dead stop a scat pack would destroy me but from a role it was a different story
Yeah I would be intrested in the DCT as well as I'm sure it will be a bit faster because of the shift points being faster and having probably a 7 speed
@@zaneelliott7538 Nope we have a map sensor so a tune is not required on any intake. If the N had a mass air sensor than it would require a tune. No joke you could literally run a filter right off the turbo inlet! I wouldn't suggest that but it has no effect on the map sensor.
@@nstylemotorsportsracing1471 perfect so if I have the cover off would the air filter pop out because of the design? Should I wedge some folded up paper on the holding mechanism to keep it in?
@@zaneelliott7538 I didn't have to. I drove all the way to the tail of the dragon and back with just the little stock wedge clip. That being said I was using a k&N filter. If memory serves me right though the stock one is tight in there as well.
Just installed one. Not much difference in sound from the stock. Even left the lid off. I'm going to take it back to autozone and just wait untill they make an actual cold air intake. And I am only speaking for myself. Buy one and try it out for yourself. Great vid though, man!
I think back in the day they used to disconnect the battery to let the ECU reset so it relearn. Not sure if it’s required now due to additional smarts that are now in place.
I never expected to feel or gain bhp. I simply put it on for the induction noises. I don't think it's going to make anymore Noticeable power. However yes I do think it will breathe better. I also feel like it has a slight more throttle response but I could be wrong. I have switched them up and to me it feels like it does have better throttle response. I will say though it's really just a matter of the induction noises that's why I like it. Also it happens to fit perfectly in the stock airbox like it was made for it. With these cars though your never going to see real bhp gains without some kind of tune.
Oh and I run it with out the air box lid. I took a 1400 mile road trip like this and have had no problems check engine light nothing. I know pipercross sells a drop in foam type filter but I just bought this at pep boys and I didn't even know it would fit perfectly but it did. I am waiting on there full system to come out forge has one but there is no heat shield/separator and kinda expensive for what get😔
today i put the lid on because i went to the hyundai dealer. i think the filter makes a diffrence i could still be completly crazy but it feels slugish with the stock one i dont know? then switched back and it just feels better. btw there is a recal on the driver door just to let you know.
Yes doing this filter definitely changes the sound of the car especially if you leave the lid off the air Box if you leave the lid on you can still hear a little bit of the by pass valve
yes you can but i dont know if the filter will fit in the stock air box. the filter i bought is a k@N part number re-0930 it has a 3 inch diamter inlet. that being said im positive it will bolt on to your stock air intake. this is where you get the most sound out of it. i would sugest buying a short 3 inch metal extention and a couple of large c clamps. only if it wont fit properly in the air box. you dont have to worry about any check engine lights as well. I just got back from a 1300 mile road trip and everything is fine. Is your stock filter a panel or a conical type?
N Style motorsports racing thanks for all the info! Mine is just a flat panel filter. I wish I could afford one of these. What do you do for a living im still trying to figure my life out?
@@devn3813 well I will do some research on your car and see what the air box looks like. I work for a small auto repair shop. So I see all kinds of cars.
@@devn3813 actually do you have The sedan or the hatchback/I 30 Style? And remember you don't need to buy a l k@N spectra makes filters that will do the same.
Just tried this. Does not work. The “perfect” fit occurs if you put the base up in the hole which is nice and snug. The only way it butted up on my N was when it was not over the hole and letting some unfiltered air by. It will work if you find a 1 inch piece of filler to put on the right side, but I detected 0 performance gain and it sounds exactly the same.
Fit nicely for me and for 3k miles only way it sounds different is if you leave the top off! It was just an experiment when there were no mods for the N!
Thank you for your comment obviously you're not going to gain any real hp but I thought it would be nice for N owners to know there is more than one option out there.
I’ve had this same filter installed in my veloster hey there! How’s it going, loving your channel btw! So, I have a question, I’ve had this same filter installed in my veloster N for the past 1500 Miles or so and I haven’t had any issues with, I do like the slightly deeper exhaust tone as well as a slight boos in MPG, although I am concerned since this filter isn’t specifically designed for this car, I’m concerned that this filter may not seal right, so in your opinion would you recommend me to leave this filter on, or just return to the oem filter to be safe?
I understand your concern visually mine certainly looked completely sealed! Since the veloster has a map sensor and not a mas air sensor you could literally run the car with no filter and not have an issue! I would not recommend doing that but as long as it's seals visually to where there are no gaps where big debris can get in it will not affect anything! I drove the car a good 2k miles before buying the forge intake and never had an issue! Thank you for watching and appreciate the comments! Any questions please feel free to ask me anytime 😊
@@afteroffice_yt appreciate it! Thanks for doing so. Its pretty cool how perfect it fits and seals especially if you just want to trow in a k&n filter!
Hey man, would you remove this when taking the car in for service? I worry about refusals of warranty because of "mods". I'd really hate to screw that up.
Just to be safe yes I probably would. I Have heard by law though they have to prove the modification that you did to the car is the cause of what went wrong with the car not sure how much I believe that but sounds about right but to be safe this is very easily done only takes about 15 seconds
If the filter is oiled and your MAF is slathered in oil and fouled as a result, they're going to call you out on it no matter what's in the box when you bring it in. You might get away with it the first time, but more than likely not the second. Maybe get an unoiled filter, same dimensions, and then you have no worries :)
