As someone who wasn't sure about bao at first and didn't see many streams and only her most "out of pocket" clips, she has my absolute respect. Defo can relate to a lot of Bao's feelings about vtubing and social media. I've been in the rabbit hole for 6 and a half years now and it's pretty unrecognizable from how it originated, but that has pros and cons. I think the vtuber community is more hostile than ever, especially because certain websites "cough cough twitter instagram facebook" have become near unusable cesspools. What I have learned is that for every loser you meet that is chronically online, you'll meet 2 people who aren't. My social media use is very limited these days, with a few yt comments here and there. Hilariously, Roach Chan's discord is the only place I still talk to people on the app. Used to be on way more public servers but they're very depressing places to be, and you're not allowed to be yourself often. The second I changed my focuses in life to things that brought me joy was the second that internet crybabies stopped getting to me.
Don't forget the stuff from Reddit and 4chan that leaks into "normal" posts and comment sections. It's like one one hand more old Vtuber fans are defensive against tourists coming in and harassing people and running stuff, but at the same time they themselves have gotten more comfortable with picking on Vtubers and spreading cruel hate and theories. Not to mention the drama/news channels that while occasionally good at spreading awareness or just keep people in the loop, also serve to expand any drama or issue way past the people who would have encountered it "in the wild". Now it's never just an issue between two people and their twitter followers, it's between everyone. Not even just Vtuber fans, there are several people who admit to not even watching Vtubers but liking the drama.

I only have a single solitary exception to that rule which is Ava Lamp, because her channel focuses on only actual vtuber news and dodges all the drama, but anyone else is gonna be dramabait in almost all their videos. Most "dramas" are a bunch of nothingburgers anyways. Ppl like Saruei, Filian, etc have 2000 yabs under their belt but are still going strong with loyal fansbases. Ignore drama channels. Just watch the vtuber. Your sanity will thank you.

The sole exception I would give is Ava Lamp because she specifically cuts out the toxic side of the vtuber sphere for her news, which makes it a far more pleasant experience to get actual info.
