An improvement in every way over the c70... except image quality. The highlight rolloff, shadow detail and skin tones are far more pleasing on the c70. Opinion of course...
Agreed. It definitely has a different look than the C70 for sure. The longer I’ve used it. I’ve begun to see that it’s not so much a C70 Mark II as it is a different camera entirely. I’m keeping one of my C70’s around and I’m glad to be doing so.
@@ClipPlayTV I wish Canon had continued with the DGO while implementing all of the improvements... Is the AF (especially low light and with darker skin tones) really improved that much?
@turnleftkr @turnleftkr Yes. I shot with a subject of a documentary (African American) the other day and it was worlds different from a prior shoot with the C70. The autofocus alone is a major reason I’m willing to live without DGO in certain situations. Immensely different system all together
So true👍 i don’t get the 6k 8k 12k thing. I mean yes it’s nice that it’s in the c80 but i would love to see a 4k full frame c70 II🫡😄 the smooth focus fall off is what I like and obviously a lot of other people too.
@@turnleftkr The auto focus has been vastly improved vs the old system on the c70, but it still has it's quirks. I've noticed in lower natural light the 400 will grab a subject mush easier than the 70 with similar settings, but often I have to move the base to 3200 for it really lock on move with the subject across the frame. It's a welcome improvement, just make sure your sensor gets enough light to work.
Man, this was how a review should be. Not endless yappin in front of a desk. But outside with lots of b-roll. Excellent work man. How did you manage to get those stable shots? Digital is, or…
The C70 also records 24 bit audio, in XF-AVC and RAW. And actually 16 Bit, 24 Bit and 32 bit don't sound different, the higher bit depth just gives you more latitude. Information in high and low frequencies is the same and that depends more on the circuitry and quality of parts rather than the bit depth.
Thanks for the video! Are you shooting in 6k raw usually or using a different format? Do you let the camera automatically adjust the ISO or are you doing that manually?
Hey man, great video! 🫡 I would like to ask you something tho… Would you be able please to do electronic stabilization comparison between the two by any chance? There is some new ‘vector’ mode in c80 but I can’t find any info on TH-cam or find the guy who would care about this😅 thank you and have a great day!
I would shoot everything in video. Stills from 6K video is more than enough for anything aside from high end print work, and you arent shooting this camera if thats what you do.
Don’t go for something purely based off of resolution. That’s the mistake I made with the original Canon R5 go for something based off of glass color science auto focus and codec support.
Not all DGO is the same. Arri, Canon, and Panasonic all built different approaches to DGO, with Arri coming out ahead in most cases. You are right though, the GH7 does have a dual gain system and not enough people recognize that outside of the Panasonic crowd :)
If this is the camera the would have launched the RF mount I would have stuck around with Canon. But It took them way too long to make this camera so I left for greener pastures and I'm not looking back.
Pretty much exactly what they did with the c70 and c300 mk3, not really half baked, but the c80 looses some function and in effect becomes a more focused product, where as the c400 can serve a larger production roll overall. Also, not many people using the 400 wants to mainline 6k60 RAW HQ - the data rate on that setting eats through 1TB cards ;)

Makes me wonder why they didn't make a full frame version to begin with - Oh wait! MONEY!!!! lol
DGO

The sdi output is an improvement too. Pity they don’t do a c70 mk2 with sdi out and an improved dgo sensor.
C80 doesn't have dgo.
Correct, I was referring to my dream c70mk2

Love the video! Do you know if any camera stores have the c80 in stock locally here in ATL?
It’s still very early, but I would call Broadcast Hub in Lenox mall!
I'm considering this or the 8K Nikon Z8 for $2,000 less
Anyone have thoughts 🤔

I worked with the C70 on a TV series "Embers TV" it was a BBQ series, I can see the difference. Nice review.
Lumix gh7 also has a dual gain sensor, not just arri and c70.

@@MrMoviePhoneEx ja and it looks very very good. I am very impressed with my gh7. This dual gain thing gives something special to the image.
i got that lens and i'm gonna pair it with a C80 for sure! nice vid 🙂
That’s an awesome combo! You’re gonna love it!

Hell yeah
No Audio when recording in hfr - big downgrade compared to the C70😢
C70 has 24-bit audio
Best camera-But! on paper...
Great video but your camera man struggles to keep many of the shots even remotely stable. Got me dizzy 😂
Yeah we forgot the EasyRig and that was all handheld so it’s definitely not perfect😂
@@ClipPlayTV You dont need an easy rig to get some shots with the C70 hahaha
No cfxpress card, no 6k60.,to me the c80 is half baked , c400 gives you the missing things, for more money of course.

Then spend the extra $$
@iconoclast6994 of course. Nothing is worse than being cheap and not getting what you want. Paying more is better in the long run.
@@andersistbesser depends on what you need. A lot of people dont shoot raw video with Canon.
