at my lgs a couple loud mouths who spent way too much money on their decks and the store owner were all fuming and doomsaying. One of them went on to play his T-oracle containing decks for the entire night to prove how he didnt need the big 3 to win games or something like that.
Its a U shaped curve of use. To me the people really needing help would play those 2 cards (in some decks) to manage the mana to keep up to the ramp of more experienced players (so actual casuals like me, usually through proxies) and the far end of people in cEDH wanting 15 minute games. The people in the middle - who don't want cEDH but pump in LOTS of time into the game - don't need to play them. If people are abusing the crap out of them, going beyond the basic use of them - then clearly a word should be said, but kicking the cards completely? Well I still maintain, to the disagreement of others (all of which have significantly more time invested in the game), that its just cut the legs out from under me in trying to play a decent game - especially as I like to try and make decks from scratch (with no idea if its ever been done before - although it obviously would) and see if its viable as an idea.
My local playgroup already had lotus and crypt on the house ruled banned list.
I just got into magic last week and I absolutely love the casual side of EDH!
When in doubt, pauper it out.
You’re a good man.
