  • In this short video I go over a method that I've used in the past to straighten out Twisted Lumber when you got to leave it outside for a little while.

I seen a guy on TH-cam just put the wood back into a pool full of water and let it sit there and soak for a couple months. Boards came out straight as an arrow and unbelievably flat. Was very surprised and impressed. As soon as it loses that moisture it starts to warp so it needs to be used before too long

It will just rewarp after it dries. Its the different tensions in the wood fibers along the length of the wood that cause the warping. I believe that the only permanent way to unwarp it is to find the fiber bands that are reaponsible for each change of direction and slice through them. I saw it on a video somewhere and it's rather daunting.

Ok but if you build with it after it has straightened and shear the wall with plywood etc. it will lock in place nice and square. This technique will make it easy to.work with but you are right. You have to build with it quickly. All wood will twit if not built with unless kiln dried.

Thank you for posting. I have a cedar 2x4 that is warped about 1" from the middle to outer edges. Think soaking with hose, wrap in plastic sheet, lay on concrete floor with heavy weight pushing it all down flat on the floor? If so, how long do you think that would take to loosen fibers and get straight? I'm assuming let it dry with the weight on it too?

I would make sure that you're strapping it together tight and then try to soak it all the way through. Ideally you dunk it in water. I mean I think it's going to take a long time. For me it took a season! Let me know how it goes. Best of luck.
