Listen,im a doctor and have worked in diag space for 3yrs.
Here big players have no adv over small players and cant gain market share as everyone thinks.
For eg in chennai,there are two palyers 1 anderson 2 hi tech and several mini players. These mini players struggle but even in my wildest dreams i cant imagine lal path labs gaining market share from these two players. Such is their service and quality. They do one thing and do that properly.
It is complicated and has several segments which cant be explained here but here is the conclusion ...this is not bfsi sector its diagnostics and its heavily dependent on the consultant to refer the patient. This sector flourishes on relationship btw the lab, consultant and the doc who gives the report. Once a consultant trusts a radiologist or micobiologist or pathologist,they for their entire lifetime wont change them. THE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE OF THIS SECTOR IS NOT THE PRICING BUT THE EXPERTISE OF THE DOCTOR WHO OVERSEES THE REPORTS.
Also the comission/discount the lab gives to the refering doc in some cases. Then there is corporate hospitals like apollo,miot who have tehir own diagnostics department.
But main thing to be noted here is,in govt hospitals every test is free and no diff in quality. Only a few tests are not available in govt hosps.
Majority of indian population get their testing done there. Only the middle class and above come to pvt labs. But as healthacre grows these comp also will grow but pls buy at say 17 to 22 pe not 30-35-40 pe by listening to saurabh mukerjea. These companies only do diagnistics not magic.
Hi thanks for sharing your expertise can you please share which sector is better in terms of retaining customers or patients in healthcare : pharmaceutical(talking specifically about api), hospital or diagnostic. Because I thought that pricing would be a great advantage in diagnostic labs as my family who resides in a small town goes to Pvt labs there as there are no big hospitals there but that is for sure that wherever a hospital has diagnostic centre in there and there is not much price difference they usually do the tests inside the hospital. So please guide. It would be really helpful for those not working in healthcare sector to understand the healthcare sector
