      What kind of hula hoop did you get and from where? I have seen so many different ones of these smart hula hoops recently and I am interested in trying it for weight loss... I have tried working out every single day for an hour on the treadmill, and lost a decent amount of weight doing that for the first 3 months... But then I literally plateaued for the next 6months and ended up quitting... So if this is something I could add in to switch things up when that happens-- I think it would really help!

      Thanks for your input. It's good to hear that worked for you. To anyone reading this comment thread I advise you don't use a hoop with bumps. Weighted hula hoops are easier to use, but give you less of a workout than lightweight hula hoops. This is because the large size and weight of the weighted hoops creates momentum so you don't have to work as hard to keep it going. Try out a lightweight kids' hoop and you'll see how hard you have to work to keep it going.

    • @hoopsmiles
      @hoopsmiles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      That's great to hear! Well, having the weight adjusted further away from your body is typically easier to use. I recommend trying that. If you are still having problems, you may just not be ready to go in the other direction yet. You may need to build the muscle memory for one direction and be able to do it longer before getting better at he other direction. I do eventually recommend doing both directions.

    I have one in the same shape (the light bumps) that he uses at 3:00 and I personally love it. However, start out at two minutes in each direction for a few days, and increase slowly, since it takes a bit of time to get used to the feeling. When it no longer hurts, increase with 1 minute in each direction. I think mine is 1.2 or 1.5 kg, which is fine for me.

    • @hoopsmiles
      @hoopsmiles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your input. There was a woman on Tik Tok who used a weighted hula hoop exceeding the max time of 20 minutes mentioned on the box of her weighted hoop. She was diagnosed with an abdominal hernia because she over used her weighted hula hoop. Her Hoop was 1.5 KG. I know for a lot of people they can use a weighted hoop with bumps sticking out, that exceeds 1 KG and they seem to be fine, but I really want to express the importance of safety when using weighted hula hoops. I'd rather persuade someone who watches this video to buy a lighter non bumpy hoop than something that is too much for them to handle, especially if it is their first time using a weighted hoop. A lot of people will probably be ok using their weighted hoops, but there will also be a select few that will not be ok. What you tell me may work for you, but just know that hoop you speak of may be harmful if used by some others out there.

    • @HereIAm247
      @HereIAm247 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hoopsmiles Argh, so scary! I do wonder if it had something to do with her technique? But still super scary!
      I bought the 'original' weighted hoop (Powerhoop), and they specifically make a big deal about safety. They recommend themselves to start with no more than 2,5 minutes in each direction, and build up SLOWLY as you go! As in, you add maximum 1 minute in each direction when you are no longer sore. It is SO important to follow the directions the company gives, because they tested it, and know how it works.
      I just started it again after a few years break. Worked great for me in the past. I have now used it for two days (5 minutes in each direction), and my waist already looks better, and my stomach 'line' is more defined. You really don't need much time to start seeing a difference. You don't need to spin it super fast (the faster you go, the higher impact on your waist).
      As with all physical progress, 'slow and steady wins the race'. It is about lots of small habits over a long time, that leads to lasting results. It have to be at a pace where the body can be built up to handle the new demands, regardless of which new type of exercise you choose to do.

    I lost an ovary because it got twisted bacause using a weighted hoop put a lot more pressure on the body. But in general women who get large cysts should check with an ultrasound to make sure they don't have a big cyst that will get the ovary twisted. Usually the doctors can inteost ovaries of you catch it early enough but it was such a dull pain that it took three days for me to really be in extreme pain to get to the ER, where they found the ovary had twisted and turned completely black and they removed it. It made me very cautious about hooping ever since

    • @hoopsmiles

      I don't know if that is true or not, and I haven't seen any research to support that, but I do recommend going both ways anyways because a lot of hula hoop tricks require spinning in both directions. Just going one way is pretty limiting.

      That's great to hear your mom is doing good. I will say that he heavier 5 lb hoops are not for everyone and some people have gotten bruising. Your mom must be special. Though I don't recommend people use a 5 lb hoop, if a person does, it's best if the person works their way up to the heavier weight to avoid injury and bruising.

      Smart hoola hoops need a different movement than a regular one but it’s not hard. Just step side to side instead of swiveling. Lean against the opposite side of the weight basically to keep the momentum going.

      First and fore most, I always recommend buying hoops in person and getting fitted for one that works for you. If you can't do that, then I would buy from Etsy. Personally I wouldn't recommend buying a regular hoop from Amazon. On Etsy you'll find a number sellers within the community of hoopers who make their own hoops and sell them.

They may look exactly like the ones in the video, but aren't the same and are unusable. I know this because I have seen one of these counterfeit hoops. Unfortunately, I don't have a link to buy from at this time that I trust. My recommendation is to buy from a dealer that offers free returns and will cover the shipping costs.

    I got a weighted hula hoop as my son is amazing with a hula hoop & I was terrible! It was so much easier to use than a normal hula hoop, & I was delighted to be able to do 70+ hulas! BUT I DESTROYED MY SPINE!! I have degenerative disc disease & have had to spend a fortune at the chiropractors over the years, with my back going out, leaving me in agony or with sciatica at times. Mostly it would be fine if I walked every day & remembered my exercises.
    My back has never been SO DESTROYED FOR SO LONG than with the weighted hula hoop. It felt like I had liquidised my spine - like I had been hooping with a bag of bricks!
    I would seriously avoid if you have any issues with your lower back. It seriously caused me serious pain for 18 months? And cost me a fortune in chiro fees I couldn’t afford.
    Saw an ad for the smart hoops… wondering if it’s insanity to try one…
