Jason Anderson wasn’t even supposed to be on the Deepwater Horizon that day. Anderson had been with the rig since it launched from a South Korean shipyard in 2001. By 2010, the Bay City, Texas, man had risen to senior tool pusher, akin to a foreman on a construction site. Anderson was transferring to another rig, and went out to the Deepwater Horizon to train his replacement, says his widow, Shelley. When he arrived, the trainee wasn’t there, but Jason stayed over to clean out his locker and spend just a little more time with his “rig brothers.”

poor guy. you can tell he's got a good heart and he's a simple dude. just wanted to work hard and make a bunch of money and have some stories to tell his kids. look at gas prices, recognize what supply is and what demand is and how they affect pricing structures, and you get an appreciation for these guys. brutal, unforgiving work. one mistake and it's a finger, arm, leg, heavy duty line kicking you in the chest, etc.

Just looked it up, apparently it was a string of bad decisions that led to Deepwater Horizons horrible fate and to put all of the blame squarely on the shoulders of two people who spent their whole lives without a single mishap and who were told that the tests they ran were okay, would be wrong. It still sucks but hopefully better regulations were put in place to prevent something like this from happening again

    • @bigguy8974

Bailey Logan if you watched the movie, its basicaly what happened in real life on that part. The test vidrine ran was a bullshit test and he knew it. Tge company man knew it wasnt good but yet vidrine pushed the issue and got his way. Very unfortunate mishap but vidrine should have spent life behind bars. He was so far behind on schedule so he wanted to get this well done with by speeding up the process.

I don’t think Gulf state voters want the government to be tough on oil & gas companies. I imagine that the people who live in along the Gulf would mostly not like any sort of meaningful enforcement action against any member of the resource extraction industry.

BP has a long history of avoidable accidents. Their claim that only 50 barrels a day was coming out of the well is a disgusting disregard for their fellow man and should of earned them a liquidation of all their assets to be set aside for their victims and the environment in which they drill.

It takes screw ups all along the chain of command to make something like that happen. Then when the last few critical decisions are made that pull the trigger, everybody has an opinion on fault. Read the root cause analysis, make up your own mind. People don't always do the right thing but it is highly unlikely that anyone involved wanted to see someone else die on their watch.

I've worked in the public transport industry in a previous life where my particular company couldn't get enough of drumming the importance of 'health and safety' into the staff at every possible opportunity. There were disciplinary procedures in place for those found overlooking safety rules, wilfully or otherwise. Yet every other day I would find myself operating vehicles unfit for purpose with damage or faults that had been acknowledged by the appropriate 'chain of command' but the culture of cost-saving led them to take minimal action through loopholes that covered their as*es. A frugal expenditure and a safety safety safety narrative don't make for great bedfellows.

When the oil reached my area of the coast, I emailed the US government and asked why they were going to use a dispersent that was banned in the UK. I was told to leave it alone and mind my own business. That email disappeared from my account. I should have printed it out so I could have proof, but I had no idea emails could be remotely deleted 😳😳 I could smell the dispersent 10 miles inland, and now they have class action lawsuits going on in relation to the disaster.
