im glad she mentioned afro-latinos.
Wow, that's the way to talk. This young actress knows how to express herself and is a GREAT actress too.
I freakin love her!! I'm mexican but I don't know spanish and I always felt I wasn't latina enough but Selena Quintanilla and Gina make me feel comfortable for who I am.
Dang Gina Rodriguez for president
I want to be elegant and present myself like her
Wow what a statement! Such a powerful and confident woman :)
Trying to justify her inability to speak spanish
I'm an Asian American, but I admire Gina Rodriguez sooooo much! She is so intelligent and has so much class. Her response here was perfect. She could not have said it any better!
I love this women so much
The problem is that she goes around called herself a "Latina" as if it's some sort of race. It's not! The only thing that makes a person a "Latino" is speaking a Romance Language. She's not a Latin, she's just an American (estadounidense), which is fine. There's noting wrong with being from the USA. Identity politics isn't a think in most Spanish speaking countries. We don't care what your background is, what unites us is language.
My goodness. I wanted everyone to start clapping lol that was excellent. Such a bold statement and articulated so well.
Take notes, Raven Symone. Queen Gina slays again.
I'm full Puerto Rican but my skin in so light that I'm always mistaken for being Caucasian. My family speaks Spanish so I can pick up a few things but I can't speak the language fluently nor can I understand it fluently especially spoken by a person with a native tongue. My whole life I was told I'm not a 'real latina', even once by a good friend of mine! But after seeing this video, I know now that there's nothing anyone can say to me that's going to change where I come from and where my ancestors were raised. I always thought you had to be of a dark complexion and be able to speak Spanish fluently to be considered 'latina' but even women who filled those requirements (such as Gina) get put down as well. This needs to change.
Thank you! I'm tired of people telling me I'm not Puerto Rican because I don't speak Spanish
She is so articulate. Amazing!!! I agree 100%
I took a linguistics class and I just want to encourage anyone in a bilingual household to teach your child both languages! Research shows that children can actually decipher different languages and never get confused or develop an accent! I grew up speaking only Spanish to my parents and English to my siblings and friends and I don't have an accent! I'm so grateful my parents taught me Spanish! :)
That answer was straight fire
Can we make her Queen of the universe?
My thoughts exactly I hate labels we are all human beings. I love this women
this is how I feel about being mixed and people saying I'm not "black enough" because I act "white"
