Thank you for taking the time to make this video for us to watch. Kind of new to bass fishing from a boat with graphs, so this is helping me out tremendously. I have learned so much already and still have quite a ways to go. Subscribing
Thanks for watching. I am pleased to hear you found it helpful. I plan on more videos like this in the future. Thanks for subscribing as well. Cheers, Phil
Hi Randy, Thanks for taking the time to comment and for your kind words. I am pleased to hear you found the video helpful. We are still working on the online course, but you should expect it early in 2025. At least that's the plan. Cheers, Phil
Excellent presentation and valuable information from Andrew. I have been using a Lowrance unit for the past season that has all the features of your Hummingbird unit but clearly have not been using it to it’s full potential. It’s great see what these units can do for a stillwater fly fisherman, so many of the instructional videos are geared towards bass fishing and to actually see chironomids showing up on the screen is amazing Hope there will be more to come covering down and side imaging
Thank you Phil. I just picked up a Helix 7 Si G4 to replace my old 698. I learned a lot, going to have to watch this a couple times. I never thought of using the zoom mode, and always had my scroll speed set slow since I was in a pontoon boat. I hope you do a few more of these on the mapping, as well as down and side imaging.
Thanks, I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed our live event. Andrew and I hope to provide more sounder informational events in the future. Cheers, Phil
Nice video. Very good information, but I'm learning my new unit. How and where do you find all of these settings you talk about changing ? Would have been good if you showed a unit and changing it on the unit to see where and how. Thanks
Thanks for doing this. Really struggling to see fish on my SI so looking forward to the next version with Side Imaging. Helix 5 G2 SI GPS unit. As a side note I've found that in AutoChart, if travelling too fast (over 10Kph) you can develop issues with mapping, at 10kph mapping works great. If that happens it is possible to "repair" the data via the unit itself, unless you've got a damaged motherboard (mine still works on most issues but no longer creates marks)
I use my boat mostly for kokanee salmon fishing so when I'm locating fish using a wide scan would be beneficial but sometimes when I run it just seems like I'm not picking up fish on my screen. I also run a smaller Garmin at the back of the boat so I'm not always kicking my neck to see what I'm marking it seems like my Garmin marks more fish than the helix 7. What's the best way to set this up for kokanee trolling.
“Transducer placement is key”…but he never explained how to do it. Phil mentioned briefly it should be on the starboard side of the boat because of the way the prop spins. Is that correct?
I’ve these for 3 years and learned some new things. But you kept wanting to way point the fish I would focus on marking the structure they are on. Structure holding fish will stay most of the time but by the time you turn around the individual fish is gone
Hi Chris, thanks for taking the time to comment. Perhaps I should have been clearer. I actually do both. I mark locations where I have taken fish and structure. Coupled with my Autochart Live I can see what structure fish seem to be relating to on any given day. I find this helpful as trout live to cruise and meander. Cheers, Phil.
I live in Northern BC, I have Helix 9 and a zero lines card. I know there is no the Lake Master cards for our part of Canada. Does the Navionics maps work with Humminbird
Your Helix 5 is very similar to the Helix 7. the same tips would apply. Certain adjustments may be in different locations but 90 % is the same. Cheers, Phil
I just bought the Helix 7 chirp mega si gps g4n, can i run the transducer that it came with next to a high speed transducer, will the helix auto switch between the two depending on speed?
Hi, I checked with Andrew for the answer to your question. Here is what he sent to me: "You can run an MSI and 2D transducers using the splitter cable and transducer listed. It will default to the 2D transducer in this configuration. Refer to the installation instructions for set up." 710274-1 XNT 9 HW T 720101-1 9 M SIDB Y I hope this helps. If you have any additional questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask. Cheers, Phil

Absolutely the best video I have ever seen explaining the Helix 7. Extremely helpful! Would love to sign up for the online course.

I learned so much. I have so many more questions. I missed the live show. Can I ask questions here in the comments?
Absolutely. I look forward to your questions.

I just buy a helix 5 g3 portable is there a video how to set it up properly

Which transducer do you recommend or use on small boats?
I use the transducer my Helix 7 came with.
Cheers, Phil
Does the Helix 7 have 16X Zoom? My Helix 5 only goes to 8X Zoom,
Yes. My Helix 7 has up to 16X zoom.
