@@ChaseandShelbs cultural exchanges are possible only through exploration and interaction. India is a very diverse society. Every little thing like a dot people wear on their forehead has a cultural significance. When people comment on your videos, it is an effort to introduce you to the significance of such things or places. It is important that you take it with the right spirit, just like how you would visit France and learn how to taste wine all over again or Italy and for cheese. North Americans haven't really ventured out to south India and therefore it is often hard to explain Kerala or its culture/ cuisine to North Americans. We are more of the cerebral kind. Ours is an accepting culture and people are often fascinated by foreigners but if you want to connect to people, Kerala can really surprise you. But you missed out on Munnar, Idukki, Athirappilli falls, and a lot of hidden gems of Kerala.

Stick like vegetable at 23:07, is called drumsticks in English, is the fruit/vegetable from the Moringa tree (the new super food that has been popular in the west recently). Its usually chewed and sucked (the stuff inside) and you can discard the outside.
Portuguese introduced Pineapple, watermelon and Guava to Kerala. The first European fort in Kerala. There are a bunch of Malalayam words that is from the Portuguese, like Lelam, Chavi, Alamara, mesha.
Great video! Indian watching this from Balkans...I love south Indian food Hope to return back soon! Someone needs to open south indian food chain in balkans
Fun fact! the big stick vegetable called drumstick or moringa is said to improve your libido😂, said to be the culprit of our ever rising population.. The moringa leaves are popular greens thats stir fried with coconut flakes and the dried leaf powder is pretty popular in the west as supplements for their antioxidant properties. Saying hi from Canada and missing my home state.. I once went on the Thousand Islands cruise, it kinda reminded me a little bit of Kerala..
Omg no way haha that’s funny. We weren’t exactly sure out to eat it lol. And for sure! ❤️ hopefully you can make it back sooner rather than later, sounds like it was a lovely cruise! Especially if it reminded you of Kerala!
@@ChaseandShelbs Oh, forgot to add that bit, you are supposed to suck the flesh out of them. But Shelby's way of eating them is the real savage way.. 😂. I grew up in Kochi, I am beaches and lakes kinda girl, every time I miss Kerala, I head to the nearest lake and yearn for summer.. Thousand Islands reminded me of being on a boat on Vembanad Lake, the one you cruised on ,which is massive & maybe not as massive as Lake Ontario. But trust me, its the feeling of being on a boat, on a bright sunny day being surrounded by nothing but the lake in all four directions that takes you back the memory lane.. Enjoy your stay in Kerala.. It is bit of a special place.. They say Kerala happens to you ❤️.. I hope it does, in the best way possible..
Wow! This is the same houseboat we were on last year in March when I visited my family in India. I didn't remember the name of the boat but I recognized the captain and chef. And we too paid 11,000 for a night. It was so good.
Fantastic choice, also try the Ayurvedic spa, as its a thing in Kerala. You should have seafood from India, it will be fresher than getting it from Canada, unless your on the coast. If your getting fish from the grocery store in Canada, then its been shipped and frozen, so it would 100% be better to get it from coastal cities where its fresh. India has lots of fishing areas, especially Kerala, as its very coastal. I would highly recommend trying: 1) Kerala Fish Curry 2) Fish Fry 3) Kerala Prawn Curry 4) Squid ring fry, as well as 5) Meen pollichathu (fish wrapped in banana leaf, swimming in a wet masala mix) 6) Meen mutta (apparently really good) 7) Kakka masala (clam, oysters, etc.) fry 8) Butter garlic fried prawns 9) Shrimp/fish pickle (this is really spicy but good) 10) Fish cutlets (fried, bread crumble coated, potato mixed with fish and spices)

wow! can't believe you pointed out the Malayalam Lake resort home stay at 36:54 , stayed there when I visited Alleppey, all made of wood, a very cool stay and the location.

Request to travelers to India: If at all possible, avoid ACs. A good ceiling fan (if your accommodations have them) works well enough, especially in the south of India
