From the many Chinese cultural elements showcasing in the celebrations, Malaysian Chinese are celebrating Chinese New Year, not Lunar New Year. It's always abbreviated as CNY, never LNY. Countries celebrating Lunar New Year, such as korea and Vietnam, do not embrace Chinese cultural elements which are commonly associated with CNY. So, please know the difference.
Did you know that Malaysian lion dance troupes are well-respected "on the scene" and Malaysia also host Genting World Lion Dance Championship every 2 years since 1994?
It was held again last year for its 14th edition, the first one after 4 years break since Covid, with 36 competing troupes from all over the world including China, USA and of course Japan too. The champion for the 14th edition is from Singapore, which is historic as it is the first time the championship trophy left its home country Malaysia. Yes, the first time because since its 1st edition until the 13th, the champion is Malaysian lion dance troupe - for 13 times! ...and from that 13 times, the Kun Seng Keng troupe from Muar, Johor crowned champion for 11 times!
Hopefully its just a hiccup after zero competitions since Covid and the trophy will come back to Malaysia in 2025 for the 15th edition! Ganbatte~
Muar group is also the one that invented the high pole move, right? I am particularly starstruck over this since i grew up watching kungfu movies with so many scenes of those, only to find out that the high pole jump is not even a mainland invention, it's actually ours!
@@shinachikudidnthappen..mov9196 correct... not only it was invented in Muar but the trick was from the exact same association that won 11 times Genting World Lion Dance Champion, the Kun Seng Keng themselves. Actually many of the cultural arts practiced by Malaysian Chinese are thought to be originated from China but the truth is that most of those are indeed invented locally, for example as you mentioned the high pole acrobatic performance in lion dance routine. Another cultural art performance Malaysia hoped to be recognized by UNESCO as Malaysian's is the 24 festive/season drums - which also invented in Johor, specifically Johor Bahru, and if I am not mistaken, it was by Foon Yew High School... our (English College) "rivals" dalam pertandingan unit beruniform antara sekolah (during the early 90s haha)
There is also a championship‼️Every team looks amazing🥰
@@mayumitvchannel yes Malaysia's cultural arts are often celebrated here because we love to celebrate.. just look at our public holiday to celebrate each racial/religious festivals 😅 ...believe me, there's also kids lion dance competition held recently at Lalaport!

At last your family has made it to the Pavilion in Bukit Bintang, arguably the best mall for festival decorations in the whole of Malaysia. Perhaps you should revisit the mall next weekend to better appreciate the decorations, before the festivities end in 2(?) weeks time?
