We're from Boat #0468, with 419 on board, it's the largest number of refugees arrived at the Camp at the time. These photos were our historic imprints in life! Queuing up for a mug of hot milk in the morning was every child's favorite time; the boat library was a perfect escape for gathering our thoughts, and the open air toilets provided us with enormously fanciful space! We are forever grateful to the selfless effort and support of Father Kellum, he was doing God's wonders at the Camp! And he has done it again by putting these precious moments together for us to refresh and recapture our gradually fading memories! It's hard to believe that we felt so sad to see the whole camp site was reduced to the ground, which makes these photos even more valuable than ever! Father Kellum, you are our Savior, may God bless you!

I arrived in Thailand in May 9, 1979. and stay in a abandoned elementary school for a few weeks and later moved to this Laem Sing refugee camp in June 1979. When I came to this camp, the Vietnamese catholic church was already built right next to volleyball court. It is amazing to remember and bring up all old memories here at Laem Sing refugee camp. Thank you reverend Doug Kellum for your love and kindness in helping out our Vietnamese boat people.
I do remember once a week or so, when we assembled in a big crowd in the sun where by the volleyball court to receive the mails from overseas.

Wow, I was 12 when I got there 1979. Don't remember the boat number (126 or something like that). We came in and got rejected and sent back to sea. Some of us hid and stayed behind in the camp. The boat later found their way back and landed in the little island in the front. Terrible things happened there. People eventually swam across and was admit to the camp. I think the destroyed the boat? Thank you for this piece of (my) history. I may or may not have met you. So grateful for you sharing this. FYI, 20 years later, I found the Jesus.

    Good morning Mr. Kellum
I coincidentally found your clips by searching for clips of Songkhla camp on TH-cam.
I'm in touch with all your (and other volunteers) enthusiasm, effort, and time for helping out those VBP spiritually in Laem Sing camp. Those precious moments of activities of VBP had been taken by and well presented in clips are a great source of learning, educating and yet best memory for those who used to live in and want to know more about Laem Sing camp.
Since you were there from the beginning of building to the closure of the camp, have you ever heard of or witnessed any deceased VBP buried somewhere in Laem Sing camp? And how many of them if there was any?
I'm also a VBP who came to Pulau Bidong, Malaysia in the 80s of last century. I and my other VBP fellows are catching a feeling of searching for deceased VBP in those refugee camps in Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, and especially Thailand, where the most uncountable sorrowful heartache stories of deceased VBP occurred.
Our mission is collect those places, where deceased VBP were buried, and to publish them to the public so people can come back to visit their unfortunate beloved ones.
Again, I and definitely numerous other VBP tremendously appreciate your (and many other volunteers) kindness and philanthropy to help us unconditionally during our hardest time in those refugee camps. I'm eagerly looking forward to hear from you soon.
    Respectfully yours.

@@timngo3006 hello Chu. Sincere thanks Chu for the reply. I simply want to acquire the information about whether any VNese boat people died and buried in Laem Sing camp, so I and my fellows could prepare a trip there, just simply to light up incents and chanting for the unfortunate deceased ones. That's our solely mission. We gather in a small group of 5 people go to Thailand yearly to search for places where VBP buried; we also go to Malaysia and Indonesia as well. That's the reason why I have contacted Chu and several others in hope of finding out the correct information before going there in this coming November.
