Look after your Dad ! He undoubtedly is having a huge adjustment period. 🙏 Shannon seems to be a wonderful support, and has an easy smile. She is a keeper. Do what you need to do for family and life sanity. We’ll be here when you get back on the road. Be safe and stay well!👌
Huge upgrade to your life with the Roam Rigs electrical upgrade! Also,The Place is my favorite place for seafood on the east coast! If you don’t mind the heat in the summer, sitting outside, the food is without peer.
Chris, still wishing you and yours condolences after such a terrible loss. However, your new upgrades are amazing. Still watching and still enjoying your content. Jeep on Sir
Your content has changed here and there over the years, which has been awesome. Honestly, seeing you and Shannon do adventures together has been an awesome thing to see. You two are great! 😊
You know, I think Shannon has really brought a lot to this channel, and Chris' well being and happiness, in particular. I don't know how well or not well Chris would have taken his mother's passing without Shannon, but her being around to help him deal with it and care for him all through it, is clearly and definitely great for him. If he was still solo I don't think we would see him smiling and joking around nearly as much as we did in this vid, as Shannon helps bring that happiness out of him. Which is something that is harder to do if he was still spending weeks at a time pretty much being on his own, with no one around to help bring the good emotions out for him.
I love my AGMs for both extreme hot and cold weather. Was with a buddy camping last week in hot weather and his lithiums locked up. No charge, no discharge. Meanwhile my AGMs were taking a charge from my solar panel and discharging power like a champ.
AGMs are good for static use (cabins), not so good for their weight & less power if being used in an RV. The nice thing is if it's too hot or too cold, drive the RVto an area that isn't.
Awesome battery bank improvement. On your way back, before you go across the Hudson River.( tappan Zee bridge) stop in Tarrytown. Main Street. Beautiful river town. Safe travels.
Great video Chris, Loved the explanation on the RoamRig and the breakdown of power consumption. This is always something I wonder about or should I say worry about when off grid.
Starlink, router has a pretty high draw. I ran mine off a Jackery 500 during a power outage and barely got 6 hours. Rated draw to power router and dish is close to 100watts
At 12:12, swing and a miss :-) While I have never missed my mouth with the fork, not always has the food stayed put on the fork. Looking forward to more adventures with your Orange Jeep.
If you ever upgrade the stove try the "True Induction TI-1+2B Built-in RV Stove with 2 Gas Burners Cooktop". Single induction + 2 gas. We love the redundancy.
In your situation, they're great updates. You got to have it if you're doing all the work you're doing in the truck. Especially shanna's running her business from it and she's always online so you got to go for it. Good stuff. Interesting. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦
Next upgrade ... increase the solar power. They will find that, with the extra batteries, the existing panels won't help enough when boondocking, or they'll have to run the engine more to recharge all of those batteries (which is one of the reasons for doing the battery upgrade in the first place).
Great side adventure! I’ve been interested in Connecticut (summer or fall of course) because of all the water and the mountains, but never been. I hope you find some good spots in the northeast.
We dont have mountains in CT ;) It's actually not a very overland friendly state. But it is beautiful and full of state forest and thousands of hiking trails.
Pro tip: sous vide your steak first then use a cast iron skillet over an open flame with butter to get a crust on it. And get steaks that aren’t paper thin
Hey Chris, when your father is in a good spot, and while you're in the neighborhood you should come back up to Maine. Your last trip I think you kinda missed out on a lot of what the state has to offer.
Chris, thanks for sharing your honest opinion about all the products you use. I'd be curious to hear how Starlink is working for you and Shannon. I assume you folks have the "roaming" edition now. Any drawbacks? How reliable is the service? Are you still using cellular hotspots, or is Starlink now your primary internet provider?
Appears that you need another solar panel even if it's a portable one. Will keep you fully charged in the day and save you from running your engine at these gas prices........lol
My appointment with RoamRig for my power upgrade is Monday Aug 1, 2022. Did you or are you going to change the solar panels with more input? Or are the factory installed solar panels enough for your purposes?
Not sure replacing the key-operated bed control with a simple up-down rocker was a good idea. Probably there to keep little Tommy from squishing little sister Sue into the ceiling 😁
@@ScubaSteveCanada Ouch. True...(as far as the pizza and ice cream go), but Shannon is an amazing cook and many of her meals look really healthy to me. This is the best diet Chris has had since the channel kicked-off...
Isnt there a way to run laptop computers directly off the DC? Why convert DC to AC thru an inverter only to have the computer power supply convert back to DC again? And not for nothin- thats an expensive way to upgrade mainly so you can cook with electricity
Yes, I have two laptops and have DC-DC adaptors. the 12V DC usually needs to be increased to around 20V DC. I have a 300W portable invertor to charge my ebike and, wait for it, a grand total of 150As of LFP batteries (can leave at 100% and are safer vs Li-Ion). Obviously my power requirements are different from theirs. I started with AGMs, upgraded to el-cheapo Lithium Ion batteries and now use LFPs (which were transferred between RVs). The equivalent battery power has remained the same over the years; the solar panel power has tripled over the years. Yes, I can use my alternator to charge the batteries quickly but don't do that unless the solar panels can't do a full recharge. There's always a compromise between power in/out vs cost.
Oh darn, going to miss you guys by a couple of weeks in NE. Traveling there the end of the month. We're doing the BeatBox upgrade in July. And I've been told we will also be eating at Frank Pepe's. ;) If you need to see more of coastal New England come see us a little bit up coast from Branford near Westerly RI! And I knew Aaron and company were a good group-they have a weimaraner at the shop! When's your review of the StarLink? I've been seeing a lot of very different thoughts about it..
Nice to see you in a greener part of the country. The desert just doesn’t do it for me. I have heard it’s interesting but the greens of the east are much more attractive.
Cooking with electric when not on shore power doesn't make sense. Especially when you can use a propane stove of some kind. You need to save the batteries for items that can only use batteries. I assume electric cooking is more convenient, but is there something not useful about the Revels built in propane stove that makes you use the electric ?. And why go to the Coleman ?
If you have ever had an interest in Disc Golf, Maple Hill in Leicester, MA is the best in the country and has a campsite for $10 behind 17th green that you can drive down to. Just tagged you in my photo on Instagram.
Thanks for being honest! I like what you said “don’t let some guy on TH-cam tell you what you need” go base on your personal needs and experience.

Been watching all your videos and was pleasantly surprised to see you in New Haven and my hometown of Madison, CT! Ashley's is the best.

Very cool install & so nice you were able to record it
Chris I’d be interested in a future report on how you like Starlink…
You and Shannon stay safe wherever you roam.
Damn! We were in the same town last week. Good luck with the upgrades. The guy working on the Revel seems like he knows his stuff.
He does.Great tech and really knows his electrical upgrades.

Correct, they'll find the solar will now need to be upgraded.

I've been away for awhile but I am excited to see that you have found a wonderful companion. You make a nice couple snd she seems like a keeper!
Connecticut Pizza is the best. That's one of the things I miss most about not living there anymore. 🍕
Just to make you drool a little. Pepe’s, Sally’s, Modern, Bar, Zuppardi’s. Gotta go, I made myself hungry.

Chris: Just curious how you are liking the Roam Rig. I hope you are enjoying your adventures with plenty of power.
You should think about moving all the computers to M1 or M2 Macs, it is stunning how much less power they use.
Agreed. That would be a good secondary goal. The new M2 looks sweet...

Another good review. Looks worth it.

Where did that little dinger on the drivers side front fender come from?

Same here i stopped at the end of V15. Now have a nice backlog to enjoy :D
Starlink, nice.
What do you guys use for internet?
How much was the upgrade
Yay!
Research a lower watage electric cook top
You guys are on the road so much, how do you stay fit? Do you have a morning routine?

Can I ask how much your upgrade was? $24K?
👍👍👍👍👍
7,680Wh. That’s a ridiculous amount of power for the size vehicle.

Nothing like an unhealthy American diet of pizza and ice cream to pile on the lard. There needs to be MORE adventures afoot!
🙋💕
Starlink?!?!
You shouldn't need the inverter on if you just powering computers.. DC to AC to DC makes no sense and I bet is a huge waste of power.
Starlink can even be modified to support DC to DC..
How'd i get to Van Life. I thought I touched a thumbnail for Venture4wd.
