  • The humble pangolin is the world's most trafficked animal, accounting for as much as 20% of the market. Its distinct scales, unique among mammals, are made of keratin much like rhino horn or your fingernails. Though completely unfounded, pangolin scales are prized in traditional Chinese medicine, while the animals themselves are a luxury delicacy in Vietnam and China. Asia's scaly anteaters have been decimated by poaching and now Africa's four species are under threat. This is what makes wildlife conservation in Kenya incredibly important.
We join Beryl Makori and Claire Okell of Kenya’s Pangolin Project on the Maasai Mara as they study and protect these charismatic creatures, important conservation work that is supported by tourism. To find out more, visit www.thepangolinproject.org or visit Kenya with us to see their work first-hand.
