      High barriers have been put up because so many residents complain about overnight campers.

    • @darrmont
      @darrmont ปีที่แล้ว

      The coast road runs most of the way right round Northern Ireland from Portstewart beach to Carlingford Louth and it’s nearly always on the coast, a great run and all suitable for your camper as it’s not too big. The mourning mountains and the Sperrins on the way to Fermanagh and the lakes all contain plenty of roads and stopping off points. Titanic centre in Belfast and Knockagh monument near Carrickfergus are worth the trip giving great views as far as Scotland and Cumbria on clear days. Try to fir in a day at Stormont parliament buildings and get a guided tour for some excellent historical info.

      @@darrmont The Seacoast Road runs from Limavady, via Benone, almost to Castlerock. From Portstewart to Belfast it is called the coast road, but that is slang. Never heard of the stretch from Belfast to Newry being called the coast road, but maybe that's evolved. In places it does not run anywhere near the coast. The coast road in Northern Ireland, does not cross the border. That is the Irish Republic.

      @darrmont ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Mike7O7O Yes Mike, I forgot about the bit to the west of Portstewart leading to Londonderry which is a lovely bit of road too. (The railway from Portstewart to Londonderry is especially good as it runs on the coast a good bit of the way too) To the east of Belfast the road runs down the Ards pneninsula pretty close to the coast and right on it for a lot of the time and you cross from the peninsula by ferry to the south side and pick up the coast south of Dundrum and it's a good run the whole way to Greencastle with a lot of it on the coast and then get a ferry across Carlingford Lough to Greenore and Carlingford and on south if you want.

    The reason for all the high barriers, probably is to try and discourage Travellers setting up camp!

      Yeah possibly, its a real shame though as it discourages tourism so much. We get it a lot in Scotland now as well

      @@highlands2hammocks You can add Shropshire to the list of places where "travellers" rock up on other people's land (often on a Bank Holiday, so they know they've 3-4 days before they get moved on) and leave their disgusting mess behind. (Granted, I don't hear about when travellers camp somewhere, and clean up after themselves, because that's not newsworthy, but I'd put up barriers to prevent the dodgy sorts if I owned land that might appeal to them.)

    • @ianc1097
      @ianc1097 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Northern Ireland does not have the same problems with the traveller community that the rest of the U.K. has. Here they do keep themselves to themselves because they would be, very quickly, removed from anywhere they set up camp by the locals rather than any council or police.

    If you ever make it back to Ballintoy harbour, you have been missing out on a couple of gorgeous views....1* walk along the harbour wall past the cafe and half way down you will see a well trodden pathway to you`re left, you`ll have to climb up over the wall and climb some hills but when you get out to near the end you will see amazing views both left and right....2* where the car park is continue walking around past the cave and the little holiday cottage, after a short distance you will come across some odd shaped but beautiful sea stacks one of which is called elephant rock where daredevils dive from into the sea, these rocks make beautiful backdrops for sunset photos or drone footage.......also if you ever get the chance to visit Murlough Bay it is simply stunning (My favourite place in Northern Ireland)+ its another famous Game of thrones filming location.....enjoyed watching you`re Northern Ireland videos (My homeland).

      Castlerock(I mean Downhill) beach is the other side of PortStewart and you don't have to pay for that. You do not have to pay for The Giant's Causeway either. You have to get the train from Coleraine to Derry just for the views. It runs along the beach and is one of the best in Europe I think. Then get back in your van and go to Derry past the Limavady windmills and lok at the lough. Amazing views

    The rest of that A2 coastal road is epic. Avoid Torr head road. I'd recommend you go there, but not in a motor home. There is a nice little coastal path (if it's open) at White Head it's cut into the cliff side, when you get down that far. The "Ard's Peninsula" East coast is littered with motor and caravan parks. When you get to Portaferry you can take the ferry across.

Hope you're enjoying you travels around beautiful Northern Ireland😍 And glad to see the weather's playing its part for you too😎😎 While we live just across the border in north Monaghan - you'll HAVE to come South on your next trip😊 - we would highly recommend the Cuilcagh Walk, aka the Stairway to Heaven in Co. Fermanagh for a visit. Parking could be a problem at weekends but you'll br fine mid-week, esp. as you are early risers/arrivers at these attractions.
    Could we perhaps prevail on you, or any other Scottish followers on here to recommend a nice spa -type hotel break for 2ish nights, anywhere in southern/SE Scotland mid-week next week? We'll be travelling in a MH very sililar in size (and lay-out 😊) to Ellie, so would need somewhere to park while we're living it up inside the facility. Sorry for the low visibility guys but that fog to me has sort of a mystical, spooky beauty to it. As far as the bridge crossing goes...ummm I may need some encouragement . Major height issues here 🤣Hmm @4:14 I think diving is more for the water than the sand mate lol. Really though that must be a hazard! I don't recognize anything from GOT since I've never seen the show . But of course I have watched this and again enjoyed every moment. If Scotland had a baby it could be Ireland. Just incredible. Love you guys 😊💙💚💛

    Running ac on batteries is going to be problematic, will drain the batteries pretty fast. While with a decent lithium setup its possible, you’re not going to be able to recharge it in time the next day, needs too much solar and drivng to fully charge in a single day. Basicly ac is ehu only, or you need to be very carefull. Might be a option to check for an evaporative aircon like a viesa holiday iiis. Works depending on ambient humidiy, so not as powerfull as a normal airco, but still does a pretty good job and can be run offgrid on 12v. Still recommend getting a decent lithium battery anyway

    Just watched this... Big tip from an actual Northern Irish person... might be slightly difficult in a van due to the country roads but go to fair head on a clear summers day and then get fish and chips from Mortons Chippy in Ballycastle after! It is one of the hidden gems that typical tourists don't know about... GOT was also filmed there I think.

    If you think vans suffer look at what happens to dogs it’s possibly the worst place in Europe. I tried bringing a dog into a shop in Co Donegal and got screamed at yet there were no other customers in the shop and it had only just opened AND it was the middle of winter so customers would have been few. It’s generally not against the law North or South but business personal preference but eventually tourism must suffer.

    Have to agree with the comment about your thumbnail. You had to wait until till a National Trust employee opened a height barrier that prevents non members from piling into an car park area which has limited space and this constitutes the whole of N Ireland is closed to van lifers. Having followed you guys and your adventures for a while now I’m really disappointed that you chose this thumbnail and the wording to introduce your subscribers to our wee country.

      Sorry you feel like that Gary, however, we always try to show the reality of the places we visit and the number of height barriers were an eye-opener to us. That being said, what we aim to do with thumbnails such as this is bring people with a pre-existing bias to our video and convince them that in fact, both NI and Ireland are incredible places for vanlife 😁 we have loved our time over here and always say so in our content

    Pity about the clickbait title. That's a cheap shot and not representative of your experience. The clue is in the name. You're in a campervan. You're very welcome in camp sites, of which there are many, with the facilities you desire. Car parks are for.......... yes, you guessed it......cars. Two different names. Two different purposes. How much simpler could it be.
    I hope you do the right thing and change your title. It is misleading and unfair. Given all the efforts made by public and private sectors here, to welcome visitors.
    A little research would've explained the above. Or do you like to just turn up, hope for the best, then cry when everything isn't how you wanted for yourselves.
