Hey BigTed. Great review. Greetings from a new subscriber in Finland.
I picked up my very own R1250RT this spring and when I was out for a ride a couple of hours ago the TFT told me that it's time to book the first 10.000 km maintenance. This is my third RT in a row and I love the bike. I did change the seat, though. The factory seat was the most comfortable RT seat so far but I could only take about 2 hours on it. Hence, I got the Russel Daylong 'tractor' seat. I could not be happier about it. Takes a while to break it in but it is certainly worth every dollar.
I agree that the ridiculously small phone compartment must be the result of a designer's brain fart. My Sony Xperia only just fits in it and since it does not support wireless charging, I had to buy a charging cable for it. Only a 90 degree angle, short (0.15 m), cable will do the trick w/ this phone in its compartment.
Even though I only use the dynamic road mode (except in heavy rain), the 'dynamic' adaptive cruise control option was also a bit aggressive for me. I changed it to 'comfortable' and now it is a lot less jerky.
I only recently realised (by accident) that the cruise control toggle switch works in two ways: If you blip it up or down, the set speed will go up/down one km at a time. But if you hold the switch in a little longer, it will increase/decrease the set speed to the next even 10 km/h. This is convenient in city traffic. Here in Finland city speed limits are 30/40/50/60 km/h and this feature is nice when the speed limit goes up or down. Probably my previous (2017) RT's cruise control also worked the same way but I was too dumb to realise it. I should read owner manuals more carefully...
Please keep your great reviews coming. It is great fun to see what the motorcycling world looks like on the other side of the globe.

thanks for the feedback. ... but wow again: 10k in a few months. That's a lot of riding. I seem to learn something new every week - the ST didn't have much "tech" like this one, so it's fun playing :D.
I also hope to do some more long distance riding (anything out of Perth is a long ride - our nearest capital city (Adelaide) is 2700km away :O) so I'm not ruling out the Daylong seat.
Touring Scandanavia must be a joy ... hmmm, perhaps my next long holiday ;).
      Cheers, Rob.

@@BigTedInOz The ride to Adelaide sounds great. It is fun to imagine that Australians can cross an entire continent without having to leave their home country.
If you ever make it to Scandinavia, I recommend touring in Norway. Topographywise it is by far the most interesting country in this corner of the world. Ride safe and enjoy your new steed.

Comfort - put a set of crash bars on the front, add some Wunderlich highway pegs , the BMW comfort seat - and it is so all day smooth and comfy.

Hi from South Africa 🇿🇦. Thank you for taking the time for your review. Enjoyed it. I bought the blue sport one, and the only option we could not get on our bikes is the radio. I wish I could have had the radio.....

Thanks. I think I bought one of the last models with the radio in Australia.... suffering the global chip shortage. You should be able to add it when parts are available.

Had a GL 1800 Tour DCT - never rode a K1600 . Own the 1250 RT now. Sold the GL for it. The DCT was not for me after a few months - became very irritating. The RT - handles so much better, and every bit as comfortable, and quite a bit quicker.

Been told by BMW UK that there is a significant software update happening in Sept which should sort out connection issues etc…. I’ll keep my fingers crossed it works !, great bike though, far better than the previous version….. safe riding.

@@masterspin7796 - it is, but it's something you get used to. "heavy" is relative - it's 50kg lighter than my previous ST1300 :O .
