We had a contest to name this piece of music and over 200 of you submitted a title for me to consider. I chose "Be Still and Know", which was suggested by Madeleine Van Zyl. Maybe you recognize the title from a public domain hymn tune, which is based upon Psalm 46. Though I'm not making use of the traditional melody in this piece, I think the subtle reference is fitting, don't you? hi Anne, This music reminds me of snow falls in both Scotland and Canada, giving an evocative link between our two countries of the sadness of the clearances. So what about as a title Journey through winter
Acceptance. Maybe just because that’s where I am in my life, but it really feels softly and calmly and comfortably accepting of what has been, with the promise of moving forward, with love and longing for what is no more.
The piece is so elegant, calm and full of confidence and hope. It reminds me of a poem by Oliver Herford: I heard a bird sing In the dark of December. A magical thing And sweet to remember. "We are nearer to Spring Than we were in September," I heard a bird sing In the dark of December
So amazingly beautiful and haunting. For me, I was given the feeling of a deep love that was lost by a sad circumstance of some kind. Two lovers were separated by something in their lives, but we will never know what it was. I get the sense of a woman who mourns for the loss of her true love and and her heart weeps through the notes of your harp. . . She stands on top of the mountain and looks down to the trail below looking desperately to see the return of her lover as a breeze ruffles her dress and waves through her long red hair. Thank you for sharing!
Love at first listen x Just yesterday God gave me a lesson with the scripture "Be still and know that I am God" and here this song pops up - to make sure I get the message. It will now always have special meaning to me. I imagine it is something I can play during a prayer meeting as an atmospheric sound to invite the presence of God? What do you think?
I listened again and again...this is sooo beautiful, Anne 😍😍😍 I will be the first to buy it 🥰🥰🥰 Listening to it, memories come into my mind: sad memories and sweet memories, memories of people i´ve met and of situations i´ve gone through...and the memory of this wonderful space deep deep within me, where peace is and calmness and sweetness and stillness...thank you 🥰🥰🥰
Ah, I am too late for your contest, but I've just listened this evening, my dad's birthday, and the eve of Imbolc. I've been reading and holding the lovely images around the ancient Celtic goddess Brigid, who is celebrated on Feb1 and/or 2. So, what came to me listening was Brigid's Mantle. Her mantle was the green of Ireland, but, in your pictures, transformed into the beautiful, ephemeral mantle of snow. Lovely. Thank you, Anne! 💕
Both your eloquent composition & this perfect title have spoken to my spirit in a deep way that I need right now, Anne. I’m headed to the shop to purchase; this will minister to my spirit… Thank you for bringing another beautiful piece to us.
Wow! That is really an incredible, magical tune! When I watched the video of the Winter scenes with the tune playing, the title "Dream of the Snow Fairies" came to mind.
Anne, I am slowly working my way through your Beginner pieces, as I have time & $$$ for downloads - you are so kind to put so many tutorials on youtube making them free for folks like me (I currently care for my two elderly Parents-in-law, 94.5 years old and 92, so Harp learning/practice comes as time permits). I just want to say that even my first 5 "beginner" pieces are so lovely, anyone listening to me play has no idea these are "beginner" tunes. I am so thankful to have come across your work. [Rae, Australia]
Oh Anne. This is truly beautiful. Such an absolute joy to listen to and I love watching you play. The piece goes so well with this scenery too. I will be listening to this over and over as it’s so mesmerising and calming. I don’t think I would be able to think of a title that is worthy but I will be thinking about it and looking forward to finding out which title you choose. Thank you for everything you share with us. ❤
I wish I knew how to compose just like you. I love this song and can't wait to play it on my harp. Thanks for being there and creating such amazing songs!
This is so beautiful. Your music inspires me. It's always satisfying and a joy to work on. Even drilling a single passage makes me feel as if I am creating something beautiful. Thank you, and please keep going!
Wooow Anne thats fantastic. Cant wait to learn this. It is peaceful. A little bit melancholy. It feels like a longer period of winter, when all is asleep and calm waiting for spring. Really gorgeous❤️❤️
What a lovely delightfully gentle and soothing melody. I wish I could prolong hearing and gazing at the video. Thus I suggest that your beautiful music be titled "A Frosted Forest Fantasy"
Anne this is so beautiful! It really takes you on a journey. It is definitely a dance - or a cross country ski that takes you up an incline and then you fly down until you reach level ground. All the while you keep up a steady pace. Skier’s Waltz.
I am a huge fan of all of your original compositions and arrangements, but this one really really moved me today! Wowzers! Stunning 😍 😍 I submitted a title suggestion 😊 I'd like to try my hand at playing this
I love your compositions Anne, This one is truly well rounded in my humble opinion . I hope it is in my ability level. I would love to play this . very serene and lyrical, beautiful.
Oh my gosh Anne. This is so beautiful. I will have to think hard on this one because we need a title I can’t wait to buy it! I will have to go read the newsletter to see the contest info.😊❤
How about "Words Cannot Express." Also did or would you consider ending the composition with the same 2 measures you used in the intro, or one set of rolled chords, or maybe a glissando?
So beautiful. I just began te play the harp, so this is out of reach for now. But I’d love to learn tp play this! Maybe it can be called ‘Sound of water’ as I hear many ways of water sounding in this piece.
We have a new granddaughter. Her name is Wren. This piece of music is just her. She is the dearest little soul. My suggestion for this piece is “Wrens Journey”.

@@bubblestrings72 I don’t know… Scotland doesn’t get snow like we do here!
Summer Sunrise
Anne, lovely! What level would this piece be?
I like ‘Diamonds in the Snow’ for the name of this piece❤
Acceptance. Maybe just because that’s where I am in my life, but it really feels softly and calmly and comfortably accepting of what has been, with the promise of moving forward, with love and longing for what is no more.
So beautiful and evocative, with hints of hopeful longing. My suggestion: "Nature's Blessing" .

In the dark of December.

All of Anne's music is lovely, but some pieces truly stand out - and this is one of them ❤
This song conjures up words like introspection- it is quiet but cheerful. If it wasn't for the snow scenes I would think it was raindrops.

This is lovely, Anne! I like the title Snowdrop since they're the first flowers to come up and tell me we're halfway through winter.
