To maintain a more consistent temperature, you could make a phase change material that changes phase at 68°F and put it in containers under & around your biodigester.
What’s the cost like on that? Seems like maybe an insulation layer between the ground and the tank and then the water volume should be enough to keep temps relatively okayish I would think. So I’m thinking a 2x 4 structure with a plastic sheet on top and bottom to make an air insulation layer and as a platform to hold the water should be sufficient in most climates and then supplement with the greenhouse in colder climates
@GB-ts5pq I think it could be added but you would need to put a pressure bladder in parallel so the pressure it not put directly on the tank and lines but the low pressure bladder to direct the gas
I have seen it with PARK MODEL RVs but on newer models. Just be careful what types of cleaning products you use if you use your gray water for the initial 300 gallons. Think vinegar or Dr. Bronners
I've been trying to make more people aware of biogas since I found out about it. Hopefully more people can use this cheap, renewable fuel. Who wouldn't want waste disposal, fertilizer, and energy
I am FASCINATED with the biogas toilet 🚽 to hot water heater. I can see using this for a desert goat farm. This is used in desert mountain communities for years where septic was impossible to dig and pastures for cows are not realistic. I have seen them with insulation "jackets" on the tanks.
You argue with project camp in Portugal, they have. They bought, they're trying to build one out of totes a biogas deal out of totes. Now, if y'all can get with them and talk to him about your biogas system and another thing is, you don't have a lot of ideals that they don't, and they're called project camp
I wonder if you can fill a big propane tank with a pump to store the excess gas. It'd be cool to cook with bottled farts when the bag isn't operating at full potential.
@@acornlandlabs oh, most certainly. However, if you're not worried about energy usage at the moment, I could see filling a large home propane tank for tough times, be it an extended power outage or otherwise. If 20 years of wilderness self reliance and being borderline poor for most of my life has taught me anything, it's that having a back up to your back up plans can really save your ass. You never know when going off grid could go from a fun experiment/lifestyle change, to not having a choice.
The main greenhouse gas is water vapor. The atmosphere is more affected by water molecules because the specific heat of water at 25 °C is 4,181.3 J/kg·K, the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 kg of water by 1 Kelvin, and the reverse is necessary to reduce water temperature by 1 Kelvin. That’s more energy than most homes use in one day. Everyone is attacking the wrong greenhouse gases.
ive been considering something like this for a while, but my biggest concern would be 1. how bad is the smell 2. how would you empty/clean the bag if it gets too full if at all?
do meds that pass through our system survive the methane fermentation when you use the liquid fertilizer? cause surely that what would accumulate pharmaceuticals in your produce
How does it work when you are away on vacation for a week? Or just don't use all the available daily gas for an extended period of time? Is there a pressure release valve releasing methane into the atmosphere, can the excess gas be burnt off, or can you pipe it into a stove that heats a thermal battery? Maybe I'm overthinking it, but I'm wary of the greenhouse potency of methane, and just letting energy go to waste in general.
If your food waste goes to a landfill it releases ALL potential methane. This allows you to burn it usefully. Yes, there is a pressure release valve. It’s best to cook with it obviously :) Not waste it!
@@acornlandlabs obviously. Luckily, my municipal waste facility does the exact same thing on a larger scale, but uses the methane for the public bus services. I was probably overthinking it. Going away for a week means I'm not really feeding the tank, so production should not be as much.
It's a H2S scrubber. H2S is one of the biproducts of bio digestion. One method of scrubbing is Iron oxide pellets or wood chips impregnated with iron oxide are packed into a scrubbing unit and the biogas is passed through it for desulfurization. The iron oxide reacts with the H2S and is converted into iron sulfide. It is estimated that approximately 20 g of sulfur can be removed per 100 g of iron oxide media.
You can technically use human manure, however, there can be issues with it in an anaerobic state, and breed heavily toxic bacteria, and potentially heavy metals
Biogas is pretty cool! That’s just the state - not the company. Acorn Land Labs is USA based, but we’re not shipping missiles. We can’t attribute a nations misdeeds to all its people. Many people are totally against any war. I am.
Y'all are GOATS. Thank you for showcasing the home biogas toilet! Would love to see future content about the leech field you mention
For sure!

Can a RV black tank possibly be used in tandem with this system to keep a perpetual supply of material for conversion?
That is smart and it definitely could
I’ve been wondering the same thing!! Like if a set up that they preach work for a stationary RV on land
@GB-ts5pq I think it could be added but you would need to put a pressure bladder in parallel so the pressure it not put directly on the tank and lines but the low pressure bladder to direct the gas
You would need to empty the black tank into the system in a similar manner as the optional toilet. After that I don't see why not.

That’s a great concept! HomeBioGas has a heater addon
I wish they would find a way to compress the methane to maybe take in those little tanks for camping and such.

Can It be used in an urban area?
In next video make biofeul from algae please for me ❤
Is the game out yet??
I’ve been waiting too, I almost feel like that project might have been abandoned…
The beta is out! Project just requires more funding to continue right now. We all have separate jobs but would love to make acorn full time one day.
You guys are a lot funnier than I expected 😂
Could you use rabbit waste?
Would be cool a map like one that u made for each state on the USA but instead for each region of each country of the UE
The EU?
Europe please
Does methane use the same gas met as propane or does it need a specialsuper jet.
I think it’s a modified burner for low pressure gas.
I wonder if you can fill a big propane tank with a pump to store the excess gas. It'd be cool to cook with bottled farts when the bag isn't operating at full potential.
That might use more energy with a heavy duty pump to pressurized than you’re saving. The EROI (energy return on investment) might not be worth it

So what’s the answer and action needed?
The Warmer it gets from other greenhouse gases the more water vapor it gets.
I have a question: how do you clean the carbon filter, if ever?
It’s replaceable
ive been considering something like this for a while, but my biggest concern would be 1. how bad is the smell 2. how would you empty/clean the bag if it gets too full if at all?
Carbon filter does a great job, never had to clean any of ours. The liquid methanogen process dissolves solid pretty well
do meds that pass through our system survive the methane fermentation when you use the liquid fertilizer? cause surely that what would accumulate pharmaceuticals in your produce
That’s an excellent question. I’d assume yes. Assume the worst. We have plenty of problems like that one
Much of our food waste is healthier for our pets to eat than the dry food most currently use.
Agreed!

Nice!
Beats burying human waste
Does it smell?
Not really. Just a little earthy
Takes more than one dose of those bacteria and you'll want a metal scouring pad/steel wool to reduce hydrogen sulphide, which is pretty corrosive
Beg pardon?

You can actually use the sulphur that's been scrubbed as a soil amendment for highly acidic soil loving plants such as blueberries
@@DongusKong i thought that the hydrogen sulfide would corrode the steel wool and that it would need to be replaced once corroded. .
I was here first !

Dang, y’all got it all figured out!!! Super cool. Too bad the biogas systems company is based in an apartheid state
