"Bodys" is a wonderful song about the awkwardness of expressing desire, particularly, as becomes clear in the context of the album, queer desire where being out in public and really expressing any kind of open interest is something new and terrifying. You just get paralysed thinking something so simple as, "I just want to hold you." It's all nerves and excitement and the joy of reciprocated interest and feeling less alone. It's electrifying.
...and it's not even my favourite Car Seat Headrest tune. "I Hate Living", "Father, Flesh in Rags" and "Beach Life-in-Death" (either version) rank a bit higher, plus maybe "Cosmic Hero" and the Teens of Style version of "Sunburnt Shirts" (great as the earlier versions are). I also have a soft spot for "Crows" and the re-recording of "The Drum". That said, I've been following Will's work since I think Monomania so I've had time to get a bit obsessed...

My friend, who I’ve had a crush on pretty much since I first met him, told me to listen to this album. He specifically recommended bodys which is one of his favorite tracks from Twin Fantasy.
This song is meaningful to me because it expresses really well how I feel towards the person who introduced it to me. Whenever I listen to it it just makes me want to get up and dance, especially with him. “I’m sick of meaning I just want to hold you” “those are you got some nice shoulders” “I am terrified your body could fall apart at any second” all lyrics that resonate with me because all I want to do is dance like an idiot with my friend who I have crush on but probably doesn’t reciprocate the feelings. Great video.

Hey Harrison, I don't normally write TH-cam comments but your video kind of struck me. Not only am I also a fan of Will Toledo's music and songwriting - but like you, I'm in a transitional phase in life, about to finish college, getting that antsy feeling when things about to change.. For me, the music of Car Seat Headrest is perfect for venting some of that anxiety and frustration. Like when Will sings about kicking his dad in the shins on 'Something soon' or comparing himself to a drunk driver on 'Killer Whales'. It's like he puts those inner conflicts on a musical stage, amplifying the noise and drama. I've been lucky have seen him twice on stage and every time after the concert, I felt empty - but in a good way. Like he's spoken something that's been in my head for a long time and has found a way out. It's like you said - we all have shitty days. But it's such a great thing that some people can transform this odd life into music. Thanks for the video :)

i remember crying to this song in the living room for like an hour with my family upstairs over a girl i couldn’t have. i heard it on a skate edit a couple months before and it stood out to me so much and it took me ages to find it but when i did, the lyrics spoke to me so much and the chorus is like a cry of instruments together which sounds kinda muddy in completely the right way, it sounds exactly like what i was thinking of in my head at the time, it was beautiful and sad

What the Scientist was to you was Bodys for me, funnily enough. I loved the song as an emotion fuelled dance track and listened to it constantly but when I lost my grandma the line about his grandparents really hit hard. My grandparents were just two normal, happy people my entire life, always my favourite couple that I looked up to and admired much like I imagine Toledo, but life goes on and remembering the real things that were and what's right in front you is so important. There's honestly so much to love in this song, it does different things for different people and if that's not the hallmark of a great track, then I don't know what is.

I never comment on stuff but I love this video. Music critique is essential and constructive, yes, but I feel that too often these days we get swept up in this clinical, numbered analysis of music and it’s becoming more alien to simply dissolve into the emotional intensity of a song, or base your opinion on innate feeling. Bodys is so important to me as well. I love to hear personal reasons behind people’s favorites.

For the same reasons, Beach Life-In-Death, from the same album, is arguably the most influential song I’ve heard in my life. I feel as if Toledo speaks directly to/about me and every time I hear it, it reminds me of the shitty places I was in life when I would listen to this album.

I adore Car Seat Headrest and Bodys is one of my favourite too. I'm also at a big point where I leave home to go to University and have to look after myself and I'm not even sure if I'm doing the right course, and I'm also in my first relationship. Although I don't relate fully to it's story, Beach Life-In-Death is my favourite. I love how it builds and builds as has so many layers. The "
What should I do? (Eat breakfast)
What should I do? (Eat lunch)
What should I do? (Eat dinner)
What should I do? (Go to bed)
Where can I go? (Go to the store)
Where can I go? (Apply for jobs)
Where can I go? (Go to a friend's)
Where can I go? (Go to bed)"
Bit really hits home to me as it's how I feel. I guess it comes to me being spoiled but I'd rather not live at all than live a mundane life having to go to a boring job and not having any time for what I love anymore just to stay alive and how your life is pretty decided for you.

I'm guessing that this video will attract a lot of car seat headrest fans, so I have a question. Is it true that Will Toledo is a furry, Or, was that just a rumor?

Ive been listening to this guys everyday for the last month. Car seat headrest to me will always be the sound of the quarantine. "Is this the chorus yet? NO..." Just the smartest, most unique song structures I have ever heard. To me "There most be more than blood" is truly a master piece. Thanks for this awesome video

This album came at such a pivotal time in my life and was shown to me by a person who I don’t interact with much anymore but who made an impact on me as a person. This song and the track Sober To Death on this album are probably two of my most favorite songs of all time and mean just so much to me as a person. I can definitely relate to the using of music to sort of fast forward your grieving process or just sadness and general. This album in particular, and the two trucks I mentioned, mean so much to me because I used it in a sort of healing way when I had my first real broken heart. The songs just have so much emotion you can’t help but tune out everything and just focus on what you’re feeling when you listen to the album.

I loooove that song so much too, give me so many feelings.
In 2017 I had an incredibly emotional and sad summer and Toledo's music was what got me throught all of that, I basically created a playlist named "IndieSad" with almost only CSH and The Smiths in it.
The song that was on repeat for several days for me is "Beast Monster Thing (Love Isn't Love Enough)" by Car Seat Headrest from How to Leave Town, the feel it brings and the lyrics, I can identify at 100% to them and I was constantly thinking about them (and practicing my english). I can still precisely relive myself crying in my room when I hear the lyrics:
"And he never saw the bright lights
And he never had a good time"
it had an impact on my life

Great video! Body’s is an amazing track. Twin Fantasy is by far my favorite album for this year. The way you talked about these three tracks is kinda how I feel about the whole album of TF. I few months before it was released I was in a really weird and terrible and very painful break up, then this album came along, that to me at least, is about obsession with another human and getting over that obsession. It really helped me get though, and still does to this day. I’m glad it means so much to someone else too.

Both "Twin Fantasy' and 'Teens of Denial' are amazing albums that I go back to time and time again. I'll listen through them once and go back and find more and more gems until I eventually love the whole album. 'Beach life in Death' is a song for me that I can listen to no matter what mood I'm in, truly an amazing song. The composition of the song and the cute start to the screaming vocals explain a transition of emotional state. I'm not smart enough to fully understand or break down the true meaning of the song, but I do know that it is a song worth the long run time. Give it a solid listen and then listen again and again. It grows on you. It's more rewarding when it clicks.

bodys to me is about loving while having a chronic illness. i have multiple chronic illness, and i probably won't make it past 40
i'm spending the rest of my youth messing around because i don't have any other time to do it cause i'll be dying before i know it.
i had an ex who struggled with cancer (she's still here thank god) but her sickness put such a strain on our relationship that we broke up. i think of her a lot, especially when listing to twin fantasy. bodys is from me to her, but it's also about myself and making the most of the awkward years before i die
