Architecture of The Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Residences, Bodrum
Located on one of the many dramatic bays of Bodrum, Turkey, The Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Residences Bodrum is a mixed-use tourism and residential property development project that includes private residences, a hotel, restaurants, spa and a protected natural zone in approximately 600 acres of coastal forest. The aim of the project is to generate a 12-month year-round use of this area in the Bodrum Peninsula that is known as primarily as a summer destination. GAD's architectural approach was to provide a facility with different functions that can be used throughout the year. The main hotel building located on Cennet Koyu bay consists of 70 hotels rooms of various sizes that allows visitors to take advantage of the sunlight, views and natural flora of this singular Aegean topography that is the intersection of the Aegean Sea and protected nature reserve. The architectural strategy of integration into the natural landscape is fully realized as the buildings meld and subtly disappear on the hillside.
