Thanks for making this. I’m not a great public speaker due to my mouth. I’ll lose my channel. lol That Menards track must be more forgiving than the Fastrack which I thought was not the case. Definitely had to cut my steps off on the cars to navigate the 0-36 curve without derailing. Keep up the great videos!
The ladder and steps were actually in contact with each other on the 0-36 radius tubular track for sure. I didn’t feel comfortable with it. The 0-42 or larger is the way to go, but even at 0-42 the end ladders/steps were very close. Soon I will run them all together on my layout with an engine and see what happens. The tubular track is ridged but can be flexed some, FasTrack is not flexible at all due to its nature. If RMT removed the end ladders and steps in their design or lengthened their coupler mounts a little, the cars would navigate the 0-36 and higher radius curves much better. The end ladders and steps right next to the couplers get in the way of operation. A redesign would be awesome, but would cost money to do so and might increase the cost of the cars for the consumer.
Some of the channel viewers are also having issues with the cars negotiating 0-36 radius curves when running multiple RMT PS-1 Box Cars together. I would steer away from radius curves under 0-42. The 0-36 was very tight but the cars did stay together in my specific experiment. I haven’t ran these all together back to back on my layout as of yet. I will try that next. Honestly I feel the coupler mounts need to be retooled and lengthened a little. They could also eliminate the end of car ladders and steps for a little more room, but that would decrease the box car details that many like about RMT. I hope maybe they can just lengthen the coupler mounts to create more room between the cars. Retooling if they would consider it might come with a price increase though. I bet if you place maybe a Lionel, Williams, Atlas……. Box Car in between each RMT Car they might clear the curves better.
Thank You. 0 36 was still tight but 042 better. Honestly RMT needs to widen their space between the PS-1 box cars so they flow freely around the curves better. Even at 042 they could move around the curves but still very close to the end ladders and step bars. There needs to be a little more clearance. I will lash up the six cars that I have and run them on my outside loop and inside loop and see how they do on each. Hopefully they make it around ok. Maybe running them as a mixture of different cars from different manufacturers would be better for clearance.
Yes it does. Some cars are two far apart and some way too close. There needs to be a happy medium to this for sure. If RMT would create just a little larger gap between their PS-1 box cars, it would make a world of difference.
I have the 6 pack rmt ps1 cars they will not do 036 fastrack together once you start pulling them the cars roll to the outside and the ladder hits the steps and will derail it. I’ve tryed it every way you can think of. One of the many reasons I redid my track plan
Gotcha, so not good for 0-36 with multiple RMT PS-1 Box Cars. That’s unfortunate. It would be nice if they adjusted/retooled the coupler mount length. I guess then 0-42 or larger radius is the key.
@ Exactly. You figured out how to deal with the issue and it is working for you. They are good looking cars for the price. Just being aware of some of their shortcomings and then coming up with an acceptable fix that fits your situation is key. Many would say “no way” and just spend the big money for the more expensive rolling stock. RMT fills a void in the hobby that was present for a time. Wonder how their Ore Cars and Tank Cars Are? I thought about grabbing a few Gulf Tankers from Pats Trains on line which is located in West Virginia. RMT also has wood sided refer cars, but I have no experience with them.
@ I have heard good things about the tank cars and the reefers. I got the 6 pack of the custom run western Maryland ps-1 from Pats. He has a god bit of custom run rmt stuff!
Lionel made many sets in the 1970’s and most were 0-27. 0-27 I believe is gone other than finding it on the aftermarket. Lionel doesn’t even make the old steel tubular track anymore. Menards is the only one I believe that still makes it, but in 0 Gauge Only.
Some of these guys crack me up. On RMT‘s website, it clearly states these are designed for a 36” radius or 072 in the 3-rail world. The guys who run 15 loops of O27 track thought the $31 price tag was for them.
Yep. They definitely don’t do well at all on 0-36 and smaller. I can manage them on 0-42 but still pushing it. The couplers are just mounted way to close between the car ends to allow for easy non issue movement.
I am actually going to sell my RMT PS-1 BOX Cars. I really don’t want to fool with the issue. I have 0-36 and 0-42 curves and it’s just too close for comfort when running them coupled together, so I decided to sell them. You can run them with different brands of cars in between them, but I want to run them as a unit train all hooked together and the ends of the cars are just too close for me personally when on my layout. If I had larger radius curves then I would definitely keep them because I like their detail and looks.
Thanx for share 🎉❤
great video. thank you for sharing!
Absolutely and Thank You!🙏
Great comparison video Bob! This will definitely help a lot of people! Have a great week! 👍
Thanks. You As Well. 👍👍👍

Great vid! 👍 I had no idea. Figured these would be 0-31 compatible🙄

Great video, those cars look better when they are closer but it really restricts your layout design.

@ yeah I’m not mad I think these cars are amazing for the price and if you run them with an mth or atlas car in between it’s fine!

dosent any one make o27 anymore or is that old fashioned now?
