Have they updated that handbook yet. Helpful hints like not driving while black, or not owning nice vehicles (lest police think it's stolen), or not to be black in our court system. Jim Crow isn't over yet, It's called prohibition.
An elderly black couple pulled up beside me in my small town. The woman asked me about local places to eat while the man silently glared at me. I gave them a quick rundown of the choices on offer with particular attention to quality. The way the man thanked me left me feeling ashamed. He had so clearly expected very different treatment from me and his gratitude at being treated with respect was both illuminating and depressing.
@@omalone1169 thank you cuz the only thing that keeps bringing hate back is talking about hate i live in Hillsborough North Carolina right next to durham we had the klan there in 1960s we still have the kkk in north Carolina last time i heard them coming to my town when the were tearing down confederate stautes and the confederate flag which i think the state and the government had no rights to take down now i dont agree with racism or segregation im from the south and i live here in the south i am a conservative and i dont hate anyone because the color of their skin i hate you based on how u are and how u carry yourself
@@scottbivins4758 I don’t believe talking about hate brings it back. What keeps hate alive is NOT talking about it, not calling it out and studying real history; not telling the truth about WHY those Confederate monuments got built, decades after the Civil War.

A lot of lessons our parents, their parents, grandparents, and their parents taught were things I didn't even realize I experienced as a kid in 1980 until I got older! My Mom used to take us to amusement parks in the summer and would pack a cooler with drinks, snacks, and meals and we would go outside the park and eat lunch only to go back in later. I thought it was the coolest thing and a neat idea...not realizing that she was basically double-dipping in a) saving money and b) basically using a practice that blacks had to use during the times of travel with The Green Book. It really made me appreciate things (like fast food when I traveled on my own later in life and the experiences of those picnics) so much more as I got older.
The Green book is needed VERY MUCH in today's turbulent and racist times. I agree with Kerry Williams (below). Are there any individuals or groups out there that are currently looking to revise and update this book? I would be most interested in purchasing a few of them. Thank you.

I would say yes, but one’s sense of security or safety is subjective (to an extent). They’re free to travel to and live anywhere they like as any other American citizen.
