If I remember correctly, Apartment Life came with witches because it was the last pack for the Sims 2 and Maxis put out a survey asking what people wanted to see in the last pack. They promised they’d do their best, and shoved as much as they could into this pack.
So it seems very random, witches in the city, but it’s actually kind of a symbol of how much Maxis loved the fans of their game. 😭🥰
I'll always be sad that we didn't get a magic expansion, but they really did make an effort to give us what we wanted. The same thing happened with Makin Magic where they tried to cram in every random creative project the devs were working on because it was the last pack. That's why it came with baking and rollercoasters and minigolf etc. They used to have so much content that they didn't even mention all of it in the promotion or the manual.
Now with TS4 they have literal guidelines to prevent them from giving away too many features in any one pack. 🙄

And then EA destroy these all. They use pay to win and pay to get concept.

You definitely can visit your apartment neighbors in Sims 2, because it is actually a good game haha. According to the wiki, there are some conditions to be met:
1.The neighbor must be on the lot
2.The daily relationship score between the neighbor and the knocking Sim must be at least 30
3. It must be between 6 AM and 10 PM.
So you can't just invite yourself into stranger's places at any moment in time, cause ✨realism✨. Sims 4 could never lol

also, in The Sims 2 if you have a really good relationship with your neighbour, you can ask them to babysit your children!!
I loved that if you had child sims in different apartments on the lot, they all got on the school bus in the morning and got home together at 3.
Now the toddler vanishes from slopes in Mt Komorebi. You call and poof gone. Because creating a sim to pick the kid up was too much work 😂

The Sims 2 is a good mixture of realism and fantasy. It was realistic enough to not get you out of an immersive fantasy world you have built. What is annoying with The Sims 4 is call a sim, and you can see that sim you are calling is walking down the street not even on their phone. Did you know in the Sims 2, when you call a child/teen or an adult at work, they will reject your call, and you won't see them walking around your lot. In the Sims 4, you see children walking around the neighborhood during school days/hours, like is every child/teen in the sims 4 cutting classes?
Also in the Sims 2, if you lock the doors and your sims are inside the house and you decide to play another household, sims inside the locked doors won't be roaming around town. I'm sorry but for someone who says that the sims 4 is made out of love and passion is just naive. The sims 4 producers are lazy, it's not the budget. It's the fact that the Sims 2 made the effort to make that game an actual life simulator with a personality, while the gurus in the Sims 4 shameless call sims in their game "smarter sims". lol. "smarter sims" my ass.

EA won't do it for the same reason they won't remaster Sims 3. People would leave Sims 4 in droves and demand better from them for future packs.
Sims 2 was the best, the chaos made it so much fun and unpredictable. I would believe they threw in random ukulele music to throw people off lol.

Sims 4 is unpredictable. Your sims do push ups during weddings and washed dishes in bathrooms, they also play musical chairs during dinner, kids can’t walk dogs. Basically the unpredictability has nothing to do with design only lack of it 😂
And it was still a life simulator! TS3 is amazing for how ambitious it was, but TS2 is the best for playing an actual life simulator in an immersive world, with sims that feel like actual people.
My favorite Sims2 cheat is when you're renting an apartment, make sure you have boolprop cheats on and shift-click the door to "rent furnished apartment"
Same amount of rent but you get the fully EA furnished apartment that would be there for NPCs that move in!

Did you notice the gift is from "Mr. Humble"? That's Rod Humble, the executive producer of Life By You. He is a large portion of why TS2 was so phenomenal and why I basically signed on to get LBY early access the first day it was available. Also, why I wasn't upset at the delay because back in March of 2004, less than 1 week before announced release, TS2 was delayed by 6 months. Delay is a good thing when it produces a good game.

You can use the collections folder to make it easier to have a cohesive theme. I don't tend to use them as I prefer eclectic build, but it's a great way to do it quickly.
That is a "motorhead" build. Online dating started in the mid 90's, FYI. Her date (Blair?) is a "socialite," the AL townies with the most money. Woohoo isn't available until you hit a lifetime relationship (lower meter) of 75. It might be 70, but it has to be pretty high.
TS2 aspirations are much more driving than TS4 aspirations.
The way to get to know your neighbors is to have a building party. Otherwise, the landlord throughs a building get together every Saturday. I use Open For Business and own a community lot so I can meet a witch. Cooper is "Mr.Big" who comes with Nightlife. He's rich (75K). His female counterpart is the "Diva" who wears the tight, black floor length dress, black gloves and red scarf. Butlers don't live with you.
You can keep the sound from coming through the wall by putting objects on all shared walls. Fuchs is pronounced "Fooks." Chemistry is not base game, it's Nightlife. But there is an unseen friendship chemistry in base game based on interests. In fact, that hidden chemistry goes back to TS1 base game.
When a Sim reaches Max magical skill and Max alignment (either good or bad) there is a throne they can make. If they sit on the throne with their alignment, it raises all motives. If the sit on the throne of the wrong alignment, it reduces all motives and can kill your Sim. I think for a non witch or a neutral witch it has no effect.
Sims' religion was first hinted at in TS1 with a downloadable family (the Hatfields) which talks about a higher power and really fleshed out in The Sims Medieval with churches of The Watcher. So, Fannie Mae is looking at you as her Watcher or diety.

The Sims 2 was honestly peak Sims/gaming content. I loved this game so much and I can't wait to play it again once I have a PC (I'm a Mac user and I refuse to pay for the App Store version without all the packs when the Ultimate Collection is sitting in my Origin). I do recall there being cheats to alt-place items and do quarter-tile placement and diagonal rotations, but they were kind of long and involved the word boolprop.

"setquartertileplacement on" and could be toggled on/off with Ctrl+F
"boolprop allow45degreeangleofrotation true" then you have to use the < > keys to rotate.
"boolprop snapobjectstogrid false" allows free placement (like holding the alt key in TS4) but I rarely use that, since you have to make sure chairs snap to the table, desk, bar, etc.
On the plus side, the game has a memory (which TS4 doesn't have), so you can turn things off and on easily once you type it in once. Just open the console and use the up arrow to find the last thing you entered in this play session and you can just replace on with off or true with false on various commands so you don't have to type everything in every time you want to change it.
I have the angle rotation as a startup cheat in my game as well as "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true" (which Satch clearly has activated in this LP) so I don't have to type it in. It is not useful to have "setquartertileplacement on"or "moveobjects on" pre-entered since you will want to turn them off and on at will.
boolProp allow45DegreeAngleOfRotation true => Rotate objects to 45 degrees
boolProp snapObjectsToGrid false => Place objects without the constraint of the grid

i got bored of sims 4 about 2 years ago and went back to sims 2. absolutely the best choice i could've made. i still play sims 4 when new packs come out (no, i don't pay for them if you know what i mean) and i always get bored after 2 days. sims 2 on the other hand i can play all the time

All I want for sims 5 is for the sims 2 to be re-released with updated graphics and better build/buy mode. and it sucks knowing that EA would never do it.
This is what For Rent should have been, albeit with The Sims 4's building and Sim creation capabilities. Spiral staircases, visiting neighbours on the same lot by fading their apartment in and out, choosing bed frames and bed covers separately, having chaos and drama come to you without you always having to set it up, etc. The Sims 5 needs to take the best from each game, let go of the child-friendly limitations, reduce the money-grabbing and give players what they want from the get-go.
Sims2 Apartment Life remains my absolute favorite expansion pack for any Sims series. I had a lot of fun with it.
people forget that in the Sims 2 the entire town was the lot, so you could put a house anywhere. Sims three and Sims 4 do not behave the same way because each lot is a separate lot in the town.… I miss the Sims 2, that was so fun to play and so less buggy than Sims four is
you can place new lots on the sims 3 map too though :)
The only thing EA ever did right was giving the Sims 2 collection for free if you already had the base.
AFAIK, EA was giving TS2 Ultimate for everyone with a code years ago, Even if you hadn't the base.

Sims 2 apartments got elevators that can skip floors like a skyscraper!!
I can make a 15 story building with express elevator to reach sky lobby then take local elevator to the floor I want to go to

I find the Sims 4 difficult to build in as I'm so used to Sims 2 methods. I hate the way it constantly highlights an entire room when you just want to alter one wall.

Yes. I play Sims 2 a lot and I built my own custom trailer park without having to use mods or anything. It is based.

Isn’t it crazy how back then, you only needed little to no DLC to enjoy the game. I played sims 2 and 3 initially with no DLC, but a bunch of CC as well.
It wasn’t until years after these games were out that I acquired the whole collection for them both.
Sims 2 is the goat. Just needed some updates from 4 and it would’ve been immortal…
I've always said, TS2 had the BEST world editing and lot placement out of all the games!
It killssss me when people knock build in sims 2 when they havent even tried the cheats, just turn off the grid with boolprops cheat and move objects on and you can place things anywhere. Bracket keys move objects up and down, with some tool mods too you can do whatever you can in the sims 4 really. Now i know sims 4 is better for build buy though.
Definitely, the possibilities are almost endless with the cheats, and you can throw in one or two mods to complete it. I actually prefer Build/Buy in the Sims 2, it's much more organised.
Plus the quarter tile cheat if you still want or need it on grid, but want a little more flexibility.
The nostalgia this brought today! I love watching the chaos you have unfold on your playthroughs!! Sims 2 was iconic and Sims 4 does not live up to it which is sad, although it does have a much larger scale processing power, being made so long ago at this point it can't live up to all the other open world ish games. On the up side thoroughly enjoyed this play through!!

Got the sims 2 apartment life yesterday at a second hand store and I’m only missing one sims 2 pack and then I’ll have all of them! I’ve been wanting the apartment life for ages but haven’t found it anywhere and I’m super happy I found it now! 😁

my creepiest moment when i had made a country farmer family. i had the father cheat on his wife with the neighbor. he didnt want to and i made him anyways. the wife caught him. she didnt get angry at him, she was angry at me and staring right at me with a horrible look. she then came closer to the monitor, and threw a punch at me. i stopped the family and deleted the whole lot with the family. i never played them or that house again!
I have not worked at getting sims 2 to work on my computer but I love there is a CC creator who has made the build buy from every pack and kit in the sims 4 to work in sims2
19:02 Technically not accurate. The chemistry system is kind of like a basegame update, but because of how it works if you only have basegame or only have basegame and University, you won’t have the chemistry system. Sam if you only have basegame and stuff packs since they don’t have the code. It is included in the code of all other expansion packs, but you have to have at least one expansion pack Nightlife or later. There are a LOT of things I dislike about gaming today, especially the forced on line if you want to play most things, but the ability to make a basegame update actually basegame is nice.

There's a cheat to place objects how you like. You first need to type boolprop moveobjects on and then boolprop snapobjectstogrid false. You can even type boolprop allow45degreeangleofrotation true to place objects diagonally for even more variety

If the soms team made the sims 4 appearance with sims 2 gameplay omg it would be an unreal game I like you played sims all my life I didn't even get the sims 4 when it released because it wasn't finished... no pools... honestly sims 4 is the worst sims game and that includes sim city franchise too hahahahahahaha!!!!! He kept rejecting moving in because their Lifetime Relationship is too low (the bottom bar). It goes up based off how long your sim has known the other sim. I love the sims 2 so much.

I only had the sims 2 pets when I was a kid (I really liked the pet shops) So I am happy to see some of the packs I never even knew I was missing out on as a kid.

I got the mac bundle a while back and was upset apartment life wasn’t part of it specifically for witches and apartments. The final packs for TS2/TS3 were mostly top tier content. I include TS3 only because Island Paradise and Into the Future actually work really well for me on an M2 mac now and TS3 is pretty smooth now.
Sims 2 is so EPIC, i love this game to pieces 😍 Sims 4 is not a game, is just something shallow and annoying.

One of the benefits about the sims 2 university too was that the wants and fears section was expanded after you graduated college. So it was beneficial to go to college to expand other jobs that you could only get with certain degrees and you could get more options for wants
Fun fact: if your Sim writes a cookbook and puts it on the bookshelves, other Sims in the household can read it and increase their cooking skill.

In the sims 2 you can enter cheats which essentially allow you to freely move objects in the sims 4! It’s just not as accessible as the sims 4, I love TS2.
For the witches, you can even visit their castle. Hope to see ur hilarious commentary about that.
Sims 2 is so old, it's pre emo & proper Goth. Very fun gameplay! Playing since 2000, I still think Sims 2 has the best gameplay. I also miss stripper cakes.

You can tour the apts if you hold shift and click the door. There’s an animation for it too. I do think testing cheats needs to be on tho. Also it lets you rent the apt furnished if you hold shift too

3:28 Well it depends what kind of bird it is. My family used to have pet budgies when i was little and they had a big cage they lived in and that cage was outside on our porch in the garden, and we would sometimes let them fly around the inside of our house but we'd have to close all the windows. but one time, the cage was accidentally knocked over, which scared one of the budgies and caused her to fly away, and the sad thing is, budgies arent meant to live in the wild, they are meant to live in cages so they can be fed and they can have a good life, and be protected from the harsh environments, but since that budgie flew away she most likely died not long after.
You can introduce them in sims 4 by clicking under other sims in the friendly category and ask or talk about another sim. You also try to hook them up
I never got to play Apartment Life. This was back in the day when I had to buy physical discs and I just couldn't get hold of it. Finally found one and the install code wasn't included. And then Sims 3 came out. It's nice to see what this pack actually has in it.

There are cheats to place objects on half tiles and 45 angles. The 45 angles tho sometimes clip when sims use an object.

It stays inside your home as long as it’s taken care of, if it’s neglected it leaves the house and doesn’t come back(which is better than it dying 😅)
in sims 2 theres a build cheat called something like setquartertileplacement true or on and boolprop snapobjectstogrid false, you can place items like in sims 4 (you onlt cant rotate freely) some items wont work properly but most of them do
Add a playground & a pool table to your lot to watch the parents chill & the kids play.

So you actually can place objects flexibly in the sims 2. You need to input 2-3 cheats to do so. There's 1 chest for quarter tiles and another cheat for rotation!
TS4 build mode combined with TS2 everything else, now THAT is the dream sim game right there.
i’ve literally never played apartment life bc when i had windows i couldn’t get ts2 to work and now i just have a mac and aspyr was never given licensing for freetime or AL :( :( i LOVE living in apartments in the sims , but the sims 2 is my favorite.. i’ve considered literally buying a PC for the sole purpose of getting AL to work. sims 2 is still hella fun with the EPs that come with super collection tho!
