I have been fascinated by this cube for months. I watched all of Rowan's videos about it, and I really would like to get my hands on one like this. Glad to see you enjoying it that much, I'm sure it's really fun to solve and simply mess around with.
At one point i tried with the hypercubers server, then quietly left because i straight up don’t want to be in the server and do hypercubing. I’d rather have my own server
The way the cube is assembled also just seems like it would be a fantastic fidgeting toy, and you can just reassemble it back to the solved state if you don't actually want to solve it
Z3cubing is the best rubiks cube youtuber I've seen, the talent he has is just crazy with modding and solving cubes and assembling hard puzzles. Good job Z3
13:37 You could however make a bandaged 2^5 that way. If you put another sticker on both the puzzles at least. But in that case it would really help to put a separation thingy between the two sides so you do not accidently make a 90 degree turn where only 180 degree turns are allowed.
I admit, when I first saw this puzzle, I felt that it wasn't a "true" puzzle like this, since you have to follow a specific set of rules to not cheat rather than those being inherently part of the puzzle (i.e. you would need to either loosen or disassemble a normal 3d one to be able to cheat), however, after seeing this solved, I can see how the rules for how to move it in a valid way are pretty intuitive, with the only real weird bit being the gyro turn
I also have both version of the cube. The assembled one and the earlier one, I had to put together myself (it was dyed and varnished, and the pieces are a tiny bit translucent).
Hypercubers be like : Welp, he has all that we need 3D Printer ✅ 2x2x2x2 ✅ Understanding that the 2x2x2x2 is a 3D Slice of the real 2x2x2x2 ✅ We will mabye give it a try
13:35 "I think I just created a 2x2x2x2x2, just kidding, that's not how that works." Oddly enough, _in the specific case of a 2^N cube,_ it actually might be. Definitely wouldn't work for larger edge lengths though...
I wish you would call the "mini 2x2's" cells, because that's their actual name. Basically, 3d polyhedra has flat 2d "faces", and 4d polychora have flat 3d "cells". And yes, that *does* mean that 4d objects have surface *volumes* instead of surface areas.
What's crazy about solving higher dimension cubes is that (in my opinion) they don't look that much more difficult than solving the same cube with one less dimension
We have new moves called “in” and “out” on this 4d rubiks cube. They can be labeled as “i” and “o”. On this 4d rubiks cube, we has u, d, l, r, f, b, i, and o
The 2 cubes simulates a tesseract (hypercube) which actually consists of two sets of cubes connected to each other similar to how a cube consists of two squares connected to each other.
Fun fact, pulling the cube apart and putting it back together does actually count as a legal move in this case, so you can solve it just by doing that, although most people don’t consider that a solve since it’s too easy, which I agree with. But regardless, it is technically a legal move
It results in a legal state, but is not a legal move. Two different meanings of the same word which leads to confusion. But of course resetting the puzzle in this way is itself a valid mini-puzzle which is appropriate for a lot of children, and is very educational.
I watched a very long documentary on the 4d rubik's cube, and it NEVER actually explained how it worked. 7 minutes in, I perfectly understand, and this makes total sense.
