This song is about being high on adrenaline. It also according to some people has a refference to the time when Nikki overdosed and was dead. A peramedic, who just happened to be a Motley fan, refused to give up on him and placed to shots of adrenalin straight into his heart, bringing him back again.

This ticks me off. This is an absolute CLASSIC! What ticks me off is that it means I am getting really old... sigh.
I miss the 80s. Poison, Ratt, Judas Priest, Accept, Scorpions, Van Halen, AC/DC... and on and on and on....

Great reaction guys, yea its a fun song you're right about it sounding a bit like Ballroom Blitz I never caught it at the time. Also no auto-tune.. wasn't invented yet. But that sound you heard is a voice box was invented back in the 30s or 40s but not really used much until Peter Frampton whom got really popular in the 70's early 80s did it on a song called "Show me the Way".. Its essentially a tube that runs from the guitar amp to the singers mouth.. you actually have to play the right notes and feed that sound into your mouth to get the singers mic to pick it up.

@John Foxton I've been listening to all 3 to compare. All 3 have similarities, higher register male voice, fast tempo prob all 3 are 160-180 bpm, crunchy quick guitar. So indeed can compare with Hellraiser too.

"Custom-built bike doing 103" (miles per hour!!) Billy Idol and some members of Motley Crue used to drag race their bikes! The paramedic who revived Nikki Sixx was a Motley Crue fan and literally kickstarted his heart with shots of adrenalin! The person commented on another reaction video for this song. Crue's early stuff was great too, really raw and fun - "Too Fast For Love"! Mick Mars is a bit of a Frankenstein but he sure can play those power chords!!!! The use of the "talk box" attached to his guitar in this song was unusual and very cool at the time! Glam-metal/Hard Rock, aye!

You're gonna have some whiny little brats claiming that this isn't METAL. You can't relegate music history to what you think it is. It is what it is. There was nothing sonically heavier than a Mötley Crüe concert. Maybe some that played faster, but that doesn't really make it any more Metal, lol. They'll wanna say that there is no growling or screaming. Hmmmm, well that sure as Hell doesn't help explain Iron Maiden. And numerous others that have legit vocalists.

I grew up during the 80's and was more into Depeche Mode, Frankie etc, I was never really a rock fan so I barely knew anything about the Crue (I think I knew Girls, Girls, Girls and thought it was catchy enough) but otherwise had no interest. Ever since watching The Dirt movie I've developed a new and wholly unexpected appreciation for their music. This song and Dr. Feelgood are definitely amongst my favourites.

You picked the wrong song again. lol I was never into those hair metal/glam bands, or what I often refer to as shouter bands. Fortunately, three young Mexican sisters were, and performed an awesome short version cover of this song! Check it out. The video is titled 'KICKSTART MY HEART - MÖTLEY CRÜE COVER - THE WARNING'. They also did a cover from another band I didn't like, but they did, also with a great result. They covered the band TS in a song titled "We're Not Gonna Take It" (not the The Who song by the same name). Both are worthy of a reaction!

I know very little about Mötley Crüe and nothing about this song. I did like the song. Very upbeat, good instrumentals. Lyrics seemed to go well with the video. I really liked your reaction. At several points, you were both smiling and nodding your heads to the beat, and I found myself tapping the beat out on my phone. So, I thought the score was spot on.
Of course, when you guys mentioned the drug over doses, the medical side of me wanted to do some research. I know I read somewhere that Nikki Sixx said that he had at least a half dozen OD's. But, the one I have mostly centered on is the one when he was pronounced "clinically dead" for 2 minutes following an OD of heroin. I think that I have discovered 2 storylines, and I don't know which one is the truth. It doesn't really matter, but this is what I found.
According to Nikki Sixx, he has claimed he wrote "Kickstart" about one night in 1987 when he took so much heroin that his heart stopped and an EMT pronounced him dead, before two shots of adrenaline right into his heart woke him back up.
According to Loudwire (May 15, 2018), Steven Adler, former drummer with Guns N' Roses, tells the story of what happened to Nikki Sixx and the heroin OD as follows:
...the conversation turned to the drummer revealing a bit of history about the Crüe song 'Kickstart My Heart,' which was inspired by Sixx's heroin overdose in the '80s in which he was declared legally dead, but eventually brought back to life by the paramedics.
Adler recalled, "That 'Kickstart My Heart' song, he wrote is about the paramedics, who took that syringe and did that 'Pulp Fiction' thing to him. But they didn't do that; they didn't do that. I dragged him into the shower with a broken hand and a cast on my hand, I rolled him in, I put the cold water on him in the shower and I started slapping him in the face with my cast. And next thing you know, the purple in his face just disappeared. And then, right then, the paramedics came in and they grabbed him out of the shower like a rag doll, dropped him in the living room and they just pumped his chest with their hands. And that was it. But he got a hell of a good song out of it. It is entertainment, after all."
I have no idea which of these 2 stories is fact. My initial thought is that if Nikki Sixx wrote a book and a biopic about his life, and that of of the other members of Mötley Crüe members, he must know what happened. Or does he? He WAS on heroin, at the time.
Mötley Crüe's partying and drug-fueled ways almost shattered the band. But, their managers pulled an intervention, leading to all going into rehab, except for Mars, who cleaned up on his own.
Moving along, Nikki Sixx has said in Distractify (June 9, 2020) that Mötley Crüe has been banned from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (RRHOF). The rumors came from comments made from Sixx to "British rock weekly Kerrang" in 2019 about whether or not there would be a reunion for the band. Tommy Lee responded "[he] didn't know, but maybe if they got into the RRHOF or something, we could dust off a couple of our old classics." Nikki said that was "moot" because the RRHOF said they "would never get in [the RRHOF] because of how we acted [trashing hotel rooms, drugs, alcohol, etc], so that's kind of it."
Of note, from doing prior research on my own, the RRHOF has been highly criticized for the way they go about the induction process. Artists/bands are supposed to be measured in terms of their influences and significance. There are many artists, who don't seem to feel that the 24 members selection committee, who are not disclosed to the general public, may not actually consider these things, by excluding certain artists and bands.
Of musical significance, Mötley Crüe was ranked 10th on MTV's list of "Top 10 Heavy Metal Bands of All Time" and 9th on VH1's "All Time Top Ten Metal Bands". The group were inducted on the Rockwalk in Hollywood, CA. The center honors artists/bands, who have made a lasting and important contribution to music. IMO, the RRHOF should consider these things about Mötley Crüe.
Their biopic, The Dirt, was released in 2019. They released 4 new songs as part of the film's soundtrack. The soundtrack reached #10 on the Billboard 200.
This song, "Kickstart My Heart" became a staple and fan favorite at Crüe concerts throughout their touring history.
I know I am joining the party late, but wanted to share this bit of info with others. Anyone who wants to add to or correct any of this info, please feel free to do so.
I'm going to skip forward a few videos, when I return, without any research (I think). Have a great Tuesday. 🙂

You do a great job in researching every topic thrown your way.
I may have a favour to ask you when you are feeling better and only them..if you find time can you pop an email over our address is in the description.
I did read his book and wow that was a very tough read, no idea how he managed to remember the half of it, but for reading the inner thoughts and daily life of a drug addict is not an easy bedtime read.
Motley Crue really sort of passed us by and I may have been bigger with the US fans and also the MTV kids over here.
Again, one of those bands that I maybe passed by due to the image and the stories but that was a good fun toe tapper.
I don't think I would have liked to have been invited to a night out with Motley Crue and Gun's n Roses.
In the book, he did mention that both bands were trying to out do each other in the partying stakes.
I guess the party stops when someone drops, not my cup of tea.
You take your time and rest up and catch up when you can or not there will be something around.
I think you may enjoy the one scheduled for the 16th..don't worry about a big reply.

@@BritPopsReactNo, you are not late in replying. I just posted that comment a few hours ago. And, also a comment on the BlackPink song, too. I am the one running so late.
I would not have been someone partying with Mötley Crüe. I may reference Jack Daniels whiskey, but I've only sampled a very little bit of it. I did go to the Jack Daniels distillery and bought several bottles of their Tennessee Whiskey. The master distiller was there that day and I got him to autograph several bottles as gifts to friends and family. Even got my son a bottle personalized with his name and an autograph. He has been known to partake in a shot (or two), but he's kept that unopened bottle as a collectible. But, I digress.
The drug scene is something that I could never indulge in. Losing control of my senses is not something that appeals to me. Not judging others, that's just been my experience. I would love to read the book that Nikki Sixx wrote and/or see "The Dirt". I almost ordered the book, but it's over 400 pages in length. The book and movie are on my list of things to do later.
Where is your e-mail address located? Let me just say that I'm not on Instagram or Twitter. But, I do have a g-mail account. Is that what you are referring to? I'd be happy to assist on any project you guys have for me. As you can see, I love to research many things. This short narrative on Mötley Crüe only took a few hours of research time. Maybe, 2½-3 hours total. I could have gone deeper, so keep that in mind. It might take me more time on your project, depending on the subject. Researching info on artists/songs has been a great distraction to other things going on in my life. Just point me in the direction of how to contact you and let's get a line of communication established. I'm on my way out for an appointment, but I'll be back later this evening.
