  • A video for beginners showing how to plot the FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) of both, a real-valued and a complex-valued time domain signal with GNU Octave. What's a FFT? Ya, it's a DFT (Discrete Fourier Transform)... Ok and whats a DFT???? Have a look here:

and if you didn't fall asleep also here:

Because we applied the FFT to a chirp signal in this video, ya..., to confuse you completely here is the according chirp math:

The code from the video is available here:

Great video - many thanks for such a lucid description of time and frequency domains and Digital Signal Processing.
    Great job !!!!

I just recently started learning about the FFT using Octave and your video helps me understand where to start and all the basics needed. For now, I still got no questions to ask (since I'm just getting started) but I'm looking forward to it
I just wanted to say thank you for your time and effort in making this video and you just got yourself another subscriber. Keep it up, can't wait for the next video!

Thanks, I enjoyed all the aspects you explored in this one video - real/complex, decibel, and especially the fftshift, of which I was completely unaware.

May you give an more complex description of what you are doing, I would like to be able to explain it myself?

Thank you so much. This is extremely useful. You are clearly very good at Octave and signal processing, and I am mindful that you are new at teaching online. This was great, but would have been much easier to follow if there wasn't the music. Also, thank you for posting the code in a way that is easier to read, but it is no longer there. I will watch this video again -- because the content is so useful! -- but the music really is difficult to listen to! Thanks for posting.
