I've always thought of it as them splitting Mei and her Herrsher of Thunder personality between Makoto and Ei, Makoto got the Mei half, and the Raiden Shogun/Ei got the Herrsher of Thunder half, which I think is how they'll tackle some of the Honkai proxy characters.

Itto and Ayato were actually in the lead. Partially because, as shown with the egg roll, Thoma was giving them a check on all of their food (even the bad stuff) because Ayato is his boss and stared at him so expectantly. They probably would have gotten all of the points even if they didn't have their fancy machine. Though I agree in terms of actual cooking, Kazuha and Kokomi definitely were the best team.
2:14 idk if everyone already knows this but Ayato's specialty (the one shown here) is actually just regular Sakura Tempura in Uyuu Restaurant. The only thing he added was the camellia, and it's inedible. :v
