  • Well Folks the guessing and waiting is over as you can see this time around my project is the simply iconic Ducati 916 Superbike! I hope you will enjoy the restoration as much as i am going too :)
So i bought this bike for a fair price since it was needing a bit of work to get it back to its former glory. The mechanicals of the bike mainly the engine im not in the least concerned about as the engine has had thousands spent on it at Ducati and i have all the receipts to prove all of the work has been done, new belts, service history, desmo service etc etc so no i wont be ripping the engine apart but i will be stripping the necessary parts to repaint and get the engine looking new again so that should be a fun little episode to watch.
After the fairings were removed you can see that even underneath the bike is all good, yes there are a few patches of rust starting and some broken and rusty bolts but thats all par for the course and will be sorted out by yours truly. I only found one electrical gremlin and that was the pair of alternator wires that were severely corroded at the terminals due to them not being able to handle the amp but this will be sorted at the rebuild stage with higher rated connectors to stop it happening in the future.
So after stripping the full bike down im glad to say that there are no major issues and it should turn out to be a factory fresh Ducati one ive finished working my magic on it although im still on the fence about the possibility of converting the rear subframe to a monoposto and doing a race replica but only time will tell if i go down that route.
As usual i really hope you enjoy this series of videos and leave a like and a comment to let me know what you think.
    Enjoy

A new addition to my videos from now on will be a water mark and my channel name popping up in random places throughout the video as im getting rather tired of people re-uploading my content as their own i hope you guys understand.

@@RRCRestorationI'm having a problem with my1995 916. It's developed a leak at the seam of the 2 bottom engine cases . Is it worth tearing the engine apart to repair or should I just ride it and re fill the engine oil?? I'm concerned about oil on the rear tire and an accident because of the oil. I've been quoted 4k plus to do the job. I have the money but I'm worried he may be taking advantage of me because he knows I want it repaired more than not repaired. What do you suggest and what do you think a fair amount would be in U.S. dollars???? It also needs the stator replaced because it's burned out so I couldn't drive it until that's repaired anyway. What is your advice??? Thanks, Chris

Thank you for posting this great video & I congratulate you for owning this *iconic* motorcycle. I had the opportunity to purchase a 916 way back in 2008 but for various reasons, I didn't follow through with that opportunity. I regret it. This was such a great bike. Power, surprising torque (just my view), agility, chassis balance and yes reliability. The 916 was the game-changer for Ducati in my opinion. It was also a game-changer for motorcycle design with many manufactures taking design queues from this machine. Can wait for more episodes. Well done & respect from Australia 🇦🇺.

I hoped it would be a Ducati 996 or 748, my dream bike. Can’t wait to see this series. Thanks for the great content. I restored my 1990 NSR-R a few months ago, you are a great inspiration for a job well done. Greetings from Belgium 🇧🇪

I love a Ducati frame. I'd have that bike naked in my office if I could. Great start and thanks for the cameo appearance of George!

I was actually remarking on that the other day while stripping the bike, it does look as gorgeous and interesting even without its fairings and in a office that would be a great talking point. George says hi :)

So nice to see someone using a ratchet and not the usual impact driver!

Excellent! I'm not planning to ever strip my 748R (replacing the starter motor was challenging enough for me), but just watching this makes me so much more knowledgeable about how these bikes are put together, which can only be a good thing. And the humour makes everything seem more accessible and less daunting.
Love how you fabricated the tool for the steering nut btw. I bought an aftermarket one recently for £14, which works great, but making your own must be so much more fun! :)

It's already a pretty clean motor!
Can't wait to see what you're going to do with it.
