Nos Galan Gaeaf, Night of the Heart of Winter. Mallt y Nos keeper of the Cwn Annwn, Gwyn ap Nudd Brenin o'r Bendith eu Mamau with his silver net made from Arianhod, the moon light weaved by the Silver Wheel . Arawn at dawn the 1st of November turns to Sion Corn the Holly King, At Nadolig the Oak king child is born to grow quickly for calon Mai to become the Lord of the hunt one again .😊
No word of a lie, I didn't know about this til now, but we held our Nos Calan Gaeaf ceremony on farmland in north Wales last night, about 1am the fire had died out and we were taking our stuff back to the cars across the field and *something * ran across our path, lit up by our torches that fit this description. The best I could describe it at the time was a were-sheep... Totally black and wooly, the sound of the breathing was like an old man, it ran past us grunting like a pig and with the gait of a human person running on their hands and feet. Both of us saw it... Physically present, but neither of us saw its head
Another reason for the Hwch Ddu Gwta might be that apparently at this time of year, the pigs would be slaughtered and shared amongst the village, according to my Mam Gu. Perhaps the association with pigs comes from there?
I’ve heard somewhere that it is speculated that the Hwch Ddu Gwta may be a form of Ceridwen.
