Hey man, when about did you start doing practice exams in the year?

Hey Tom, I started doing practice exams during the term 4 holidays for me (I may have started 1-2 beforehand, but in terms of practice exams done under full exam conditions, then the answer would be the final school holidays.

@@JLTutoring awesome. I wasn’t able to do any during the holidays as I was very flat out with family stuff. Just another question, how did you begin revision for chemistry? I’m finding it to be my weakest subject. I’ve done consistently pretty well throughout the year, but looking at it holistically is proving very challenging.

@@tomhus6055 That's understandable, things always pop up - so best thing is not to regret past decisions and focus on doing the practice exams. Since after all, the law of diminishing return states that most of your results come from those initial efforts.
As for chemistry, definitely focus on getting the skill-based questions down pat first (these are the relatively 'easy marks') - and so focus on writing down these questions in a notebook to make sure you don't make a similar mistake (since these questions often repeat themselves).
And what I did at the start of my revision was to go through a few untimed practice exams and I spent a lot of time making sure I understood how to approach each question - and after a few of these practices, I found that I understood most of those skill-based questions (and this is important since they make up most of the marks)

@@JLTutoring honestly, I’m so grateful for your response, especially so late. Thank you for taking time out of your day (and night) to cater for others, it really means the world. That’s amazing advice, I’ll get to work tomorrow I reckon. Have a good night, and thank you again Julian 😊

hey JL, what chemistry textbook did you use within year 12?

    • @JLTutoring
      @JLTutoring  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Heinemann Chemistry 2 (which I mainly found useful learning content throughout the year, but not so much in the lead up to exams)

@@JLTutoring what textbook or resource did you use leading upto the exam, i have also realised that it is good for content learning, however not so good for leading upto exams
      - I have heard that Edrolo is very simplified with its content and good for revision due to its simplistic nature compared to other textbooks. but I don't have experience with the Edrolo chemistry textbook itself, so I cannot speak on it

@@RexZ412 Kind of a boring answer on my end but my main resource leading up to the exam was basically just past practice papers (from both VCAA and other company exams) - I would do them, look at the answers and add anything I learnt into my notes. I wouldn't worry too much about 'learning content' from different sources before the exam, since they might not be exactly what the examiners are looking for. So the best way to 'learn content' is through practice exams.

Hi Julian, along with your annotated data booklet, would you be able to go through some of your notebooks for example methods and chem:)

    • @JLTutoring

Hey, thanks for your interest in those notes. I have sections of those notes in the following videos:
      Maths: th-cam.com/video/mVL4l3wOkhU/w-d-xo.html
      Chemistry: th-cam.com/video/rPQwEHi8_JQ/w-d-xo.html
It may seem very complicated or daunting, but the most useful thing for these notes is the questions that I got wrong. Now, this is quite subjective so that's why I don't cover all my notes since everyone has different strengths. And so I would recommend using the format that I have covered in these videos, and craft your own set of notes that contain the types of questions you struggle the most with - this individualised method of notetaking is the secret to doing well

Guys do you think raw 30 chem as my top 4 is good enough to get me into med? I got a 2010 ucat and I’m still wondering if I have a shot. My predicted atar is 76 btw 😊

Thanks! I'm happy to answer any general questions about VCE biology e.g. how to study or approach certain parts of the exam (but I am probably not the best person to ask any specific questions about e.g. Exam 2017, Q3 part a, etc)
