I don't want to be "that" person, but as someone that is living in Japan as well, I just want to say that that apartment is by no means standard. I have a Toto toilet and my realtor said that I got lucky. I would be more than welcome to video my apartment and show one that is a bit more realistic in price and what you would actually see.

I pay about ¥90,000 for my place and have a 3DK. It isn't luxurious even though it is expensive. Its just that I watch videos where people show their nice apartments, but never disclose that it is in the countryside. I watched and episode of House Hunters International and the guy had idealized Japanese apartment in mind for cheap, but he wanted to be Tokyo. When he was told that his wouldn't happen unless he went to the countryside, he was so disappointed. That's what I want people to avoid.

The vent under the cupboard where the toaster and stuff is is brilliant. I've seen plenty of those pull-out shelves before but I've only known them to be pull out in order to avoid the steam from ruining the wood of the cabinet above. That's neat! Japanese apartments are so efficient.
In Korea we don't even need a door key. The door locks automatically when being closed and you open it via a touchpad from the other side. It's super fast and you never have to worry about not having your keys with you
@Karanjeet Kainth yes, anything electronic can be hacked one way or another, especially if it's connected to the internet in some way. Where it's a key fob, one of those ring door bell systems, or even a car's driving assistance feature. That's why, for me at least, I would never want just an electronic lock to my house.
I am currently living in Japan, but the housing with these features might cost like at least 800 USD per month I think... NOT every households have these things for sure!

I love everything in this video outside of the toilet sink. I get that the water is clean, I just couldn't wash my hands after using the toilet without soap.
I really liked the ability to control the water temperature from a panel. This made it so that the shower was perfect without having to fiddle with the knobs. Want a 37C shower? Just set the panel. Cold and want a 40C shower? Just hit up a couple times. SO EASY!
Japanese bathtubs have a built in jacuzzi bubble feature and you can choose to have different types of herb water as you bathe so its perfect if you need to soak your muscles as you can just tap a button and you'll have instant warm water with built in bath bomb!

My house looks like this. Air conditioning is the same. Pull out rice cooker tray is the same. Stove is the same. Most every newly built home in Japan has a "unit bath" like hers (which might even be a little small). Our Bath has a heating option which can also be used to dry clothes. Our toilets are like hers as well though we opted for a separate tiny sink so we can use soap. And... our stairs are narrow. The thing that I hate about it our house is the narrow stairs we were talked into when they miffed the dimensions on a plan.
Nowhere does it say that this is an average house or that all houses are like this. She literally just said ‘things in MY Japanese home that just make sense’.
I get that since you don't clean yourself manually your hands can get away with a simple rinse, but you're still lifting the toilet seat lid, so you would still get germs on your hands from that, no?
Those are all really smart conveniences. I love the space saving differences and wish I had things like that in wee little places I have lived. Seriously, I lived for 6 months in a room smaller than most walk-in closets.

If you listen carefully, she says several times that she lives in a home (in the countryside). Unfortunately, some of these things are not standard in an apartment or home, especially if you're trying to live in the cities (like Tokyo for example).
If you're using the bidet's full function with the water cleaning (which sprays your parts) and air drying, there isn't a real need to then use toilet paper to dry yourself unless you really want to.
...the rent for this place must be crazy. The oven was already surprising, but I’ve never seen an apartment in Japan with space for 2 toilet paper rolls 😱

This is more typical for apartment instead of house. For houses, they usually have different room for different things. And dang, her apartment is a middle to high cost, depending on the area she lives in due to how new things are. You wouldn't find any of this in cheaper places Edit: nvm. This place can cost someone 100k, equivalence to my food expense, utility's expense and apartment rent combined

@@GoddessFourWinds exactly, and even if you don't touch anything, there is a lot of exposure to faecal particles and other germs present in the bathroom that you should eliminate before going back out and spreading those to other parts of the house. That's why it is recommended not to eat in the bathroom; ingesting extra particles that could affect your body negatively is not smart in my opinion
