Wow 16 years training, that is commitment!!! Infectious stuff intrigues me and find it very interesting! Also immunology is something I'd like to see about if an immunologist could be something you could do in a future video thanks again great video
Thank you so much for this. I've always been interested in 'bugs', which is why my undergrad is focused on virology and microbiology. However, listening to Dr Tosh talk about the impact regards to global health-- he has put into words -why- it interests me. I'm going to save this video and rewatch this every time I need a motivation boost!
This was very helpful, Andrea, since I am majoring in Microbiology for my pre-med. I was wondering if you have any tips for those who want to be both a doctor and a researcher (MD-PhD). :)
You're videos are very helpful thank you so much. Im a high school student going into my senior year. I've always been interested in the medical field. I love children and my dream is to become a pediatrician. It would be awesome if you could do a video with a pediatrician or any video on pediatrics. Thanks!😊
YOU ARE AWESOME!!! Maybe a dermatologist one day? Especially regarding what they did in medical school to achieve that match? Love love love you Dr. Andrea, you have no idea what an inspiration you are
Could you do a video with a general pediatrician or a pediatric specialist? :) I really hope to go into pediatrics one day, and would love to know more about it!
Awesome vid! Can u please do one with a surgeon? And what's their work-life balance during & after residency? I'm a 3rd year med-student and I think I'll love surgery except for that. Thanks
@andreatooley could you please do a pain management and hematology doctors interview please. The paths taken for these specialties. Thank you! From Jamaica 🇯🇲
Hi! You mentioned doing research during undergrad. How did you manage to balance that with classes? I may be getting a student assistant position for Medical research this semester (score!) but I'm also taking OChem and Bio.
I’m really considering on becoming a doctor and specializing in Infectious diseases. But I’m not sure if I’ll be able to push through med school as well as residency. I’m stuck between becoming a doctor or a nurse..
I'm currently a 74D in the army (chemical biological radiological and nuclear) wanting to look into a career working for the CDC. any information I could get to help be a research scientist would be amazing.
Could you do one with a surgeon (maybe a girl?) who has a family and have them explain how they balance everything, like home life and family and being a surgeon?
Paige Kate OMG yes please! I am interested in surgery but the lifestyle they lead kind of throws me off! I mean I may want to have a family one day and a dog(random I know but someone's gotta feed, bathe, train and love it!) and I just find it so daunting that most surgeons act like they don't even have time for basic biological needs!
I would love to work in Infectious diseases but would any job closely relating to that require you to be a specialist in I.D.? Or would it be possible to work in I.D. without being a specialist and with less training?
You could get an MPH in epidemiology, or a master's/doctorate in Biodefense if you want to lean towards the policy and strategy of disease control. Or if you want to be more on the research side of things, you could simply go for the Masters in microbiology or something, as I'm sure you're aware though lol. What aspect of infectious disease interests you mate?
hey! Love your videos! I have some questions about salaries. On average, how much do residents make? Also, if one were to decide to do a fellowship after a residency program, would one be paid the same amount as in residency or not? Thanks!!
Do you ever get use to or desentatized to the trauma or injuries you see as a doctor. I will be a freshman in pre med this august aspiring to be a physician specialized in sports medicine. Thank you in advance also can you give me advice on my career path
Keishawn Roye Yes you do. You learn to see things in a more medical sense, and separate them from the patient in certain times. But great doctors remember the patient and stay sensitized to their needs as well!
Also as a sport medicine physician will i have time for family? And what are some specialities with flexible and good hours with dental in consideration
You attended Mayo Clinic and I am also interested in attending Mayo Clinic, however, since they accept only 50 medical students its somewhat daunting. However, at the moment my gpa is 3.89 (i am a sophomore this year) i work in a neurobiology lab, i volunteer in hospice care, and I have started a club at my college to showcase my leadership skills. Hopefully MCAT score is above 33 since I am studying for it already! Also thank you for the videos.
Wow, that first semester tip was probably the best I've ever heard.. especially from experience.. really works.
OMG this is exactly the video I wanted! I am extremely interested in infectious diseases in conjunction with Public Health LOVE U
This was a very interesting look at the work of Dr. Tosh as an Infectious Diseases Specialist! Thanks again for another great interview, Andrea!
This is fantastic! I'm a lab scientist (core lab) and have been thinking about going back to school/apply med school for pathology or ID
Super interesting. I always thought working for the CDC would be amazing.
This is awesome! I was thinking about studying infectious diseases and pathology :) thanks for making a video like this!

I've heard of infectious diseases specialists…. because Dr House is one!
hey! Love your videos! I have some questions about salaries. On average, how much do residents make? Also, if one were to decide to do a fellowship after a residency program, would one be paid the same amount as in residency or not?
Thanks!!
megmeg9871 Residents generally make between 50-60,000 a year. Fellows do get paid, but sometimes they make less than a resident salary.

Hello. Um. I. Have. TB. And. How. Is. TB. Is. Cured.
The job of an ID included lots of labs right ? Like an ID doctor would spend lots of his/her time in labs. Is that right ?
