      They're pushing it hard.... (TWSS) Not sure how I got it a day before everyone else. Had the mic last week and tried to rush through the video to get it up first found out it wasn't supposed to be shipped till the day i got it. Happy accident i guess. I waited a few days to post it though.

      @meistudiony they are good with kick and guitar cabs apparently so do your magic heheh. I listened some drum tracks where this mic was used on kick and I like how was sounding.

      @meistudiony What I found about this mic it is primarily a broadcast mic competitor to RE20 and SM7B but can capture the low-end well and has high SPL. In various texts, I found lots of people use it for kick, bass, guitars, brass, and vocals it should be a good allrounder at least on paper. I did not find any decent demos and sound tests on YT most existing reviews are related to broadcasting and spoken word.

    really impressed with it on the inside of the kick and that first upright bass position. Still not sure it performs better than other more "traditional" mics in those positions but maybe the idea of not having to use a mic stand there could be cool

      It really surprised me how well it handled itself in there. I had to keep the -20 db pad on the whole time (no pad on the mic pre). But it didn't distort. For what is essentially a flat packed SDC, color me impressed. It was kind of a pain for the bass as it had to sit on something. I'm kind of interested in hearing their sE8 now. Same capsule. Thanks for checking out the video!

    I love this kind of mic. The "pressure zone mic," as sold by Crown International, was copied by Radio Shack back in the day. Not everyone knew that this mic actually had a transformer-balanced output, that was only converted to unbalanced at the 1/4" plug on the end of the cable. Cut the plug off, attach an XLR connector, and voila, you had a balanced mic. You could also mod it to run off Phantom power, which I did. I used one of these in 1992 to record the drums on a live recording I made of a bar band. Here is the track. The only drum mics are a D112 on kick and that modded Radio Shack PZM lying on a towel, on top of the kick drum shell. This recording was made with just a DAT recorder connected to the little Mackie CR-1604 mixer feeding the PA. th-cam.com/video/tUST9wtYU-w/w-d-xo.html

      @@meistudiony I thought Protools 1.0 sounded great. Buggy as heck and would crash at the drop of a hat, but it sounded fine.

      @@ScottGrammer i remember so many people saying how plasticky it sounded and one “famous” engineer even started a whole conspiracy theory that the low end was not captured properly (which was proven false)
      There were so many other “issues” i had heard about. (I remember using sound designer and not having an issue with it… so….)

    Pags.. I have a pair of the really old 'Realistic' piezo's.. they bring this big sparkle on carpet floors.. it get's a little more 'forward' when you hang 'em on a hard wall. I need to check these out..

      Hey thanks for checking it out! Keep in mind these aren't PZM style, so youre not going to get that contact pickup the same. Theres a small diaphragm condenser capsule in it mounted to a plate... The PZM actually used the big plate to pick things up through the transducer. Would be a really interesting comparison! When i put this one on the floor near the bass, it didn't do too well.

    Honestly I never run mine alone. Generally I run an in and and an out with out with the low cut on out and in making up the difference because you’re less likely to get low rumble

    Did you try in the piano?

    • @meistudiony
      @meistudiony  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didnt want to stick or screw anything onto/into the lid (which was the suggested placement for them on piano). This mic is so heavy, stickies would have given me a panic attack or something. Lol. Having it touching the resonant plate would probably be pretty noisy with the solenoids that operate the player system. The pedal solenoid is pretty noisy on its own. I recently picked up a pair of AT mini boundaries i was going to try. Where do you place them?

      The weight of this particular mic didnt make me comfortable using stickies. This mic is crazy heavy for its size. Id be more apt to try it with something more manageable.
