Plymouth really led the charge in terms of integrating electronics and vocals into the marching arts.. and even though this was 27 years ago it really hasn't been matched. Jesus Christ Superstar was the perfect vehicle and the arrangements are absolutely gorgeous.
Could have been an issue with completion time. It took a long time to finish the show (as in previous years as well). In this case they had 2 sets of wireless mics/racks of receivers to futz with--and this was long before it became standard for bands to use wireless. 8 mics for the choir and another 8 (?) for trigger mics on drums. Never did get the midi triggers in the show b/c the powers that be refused to rehearse with them and work out tech bugs in full band field practice ("we don't have time"). But that didn't stop them from complaining that they weren't in the show (they were supposed to be a major part of the effect). They just wanted everything powered up for a performance, everyone crossing their fingers that it would all work (it was friggin' complicated stuff) so the kids could be embarrassed by stuff that didn't work that wasn't their fault. A lot of a staff acrimony that year as there was no actual band director hired by and paid for by the school district, which was too cheap to provide one. Boosters were running the band. Band was lucky to make it to nationals at all.

It's hard to believe they came in 3rd with this show at MCBA.
Outdoors. This was written for the dome. Lots of low flute parts would blow away in the wind. Also show was done late.
